Game Thread: Lady Vols @ Auburn: Thurs Jan 4, 7:02 p.m. CT (8:02 Eastern) ; SECN+ Win 75-67

That was a long time ago and it is easy to forget the legacy. Catch was a four time AA and the only LV, other than Holdsclaw, with 2000pts and 1000 rebounds. In her four years, she won an NC as a freshman as part of the Meeks, lost an elite 8 game to Duke in a huge upset (Holdsclaw had her worst game ever). But she led the team to the championship game the next season (losing to the team that shall not be named) and her senior season, which was going fantastically, was ended early with an ACL tear (The Lvs made it to the S16 without her). She is definitely on the LV Mount Rushmore --with Holdsclaw, CP3, and Daedra Charles.

I think Rickea is firmly in the next tier of LV greats. If you put together a dream team of 12 LV greats, she would be on the squad.
All true. And agree, RJ as good as she is to some is a tier below the top.

The conversation was about scorers, and offensive ability. I also said of the last 25 yrs, the modern era. So I still put RJ in the top 3 w CH and CP in that category.

I'm well aware of Catch's history, I was there for it. Probably the most complete player we've ever had. But she was a different type scorer.

So again. I have a hard time putting her ahead of Tamika.

"False" was a little harsh but the poster is correct. The play to Tess was part of the momentum swing that happened in the 2nd half.

Just admit a mistake and move on. It's not that hard.
The point he hoped to make was the momentum change happened before Kellie talked to the team at halftime. Can not give her credit for anything. Just crazy.

Definitely a case of trying to wedge the “facts” to support a position. There were definitely adjustments made and they returned to the floor with that ass on fire! Took them a minute or two to realize what the hell the mission was defensively, but they found the fire they needed.

Kellie and Maria were also talking about Rickea's place in LV history today. Average a double double for the whole season? Only been done once in LV history. Great as RJ is, it's pretty unlikely.

Cora's story off the same interview. Not to put more pressure on RJ or anything. Cora gives a bit more detail on previous players who came close. Both Candace and Glory Johnson came within .2 % pt of a rebound of averaging a double double. Dang if I wouldn't have gone back and found them a partial rebound somewhere in the season.

Sorry if came off "harsh", that wasn't my intentions at all. My apologies to Coach Jumper if he felt the same way you may have took it. I just knew those plays happened in the second half, because I watched the game and was jumping with joy when we made that 5 point swing.

Well it was the turning point in my cardiac health and not in a good way. I counted those horrible seconds she was down as my cardio workout for the day.

If she does, I will personally get out my chisel and start carving her face on the LV Mount Rushmore.

I just checked the stats again on the Auburn game because I am still in disbelief that we won the game with 23 TOs (to only 6 for Auburn) and only made 3 threes (3 for 7 not a bad % but too few attempts).

The LVs did dominate the boards, which helped to equalize the TO deficit but I think the saving grace was that Auburn is not a good outside shooting team (2 for 14 from outside).

If they had shot an okay 5 for 14 (35%), those 9 points could have changed the game.

Not sure exactly what I am saying here but Rickea is gonna need more support if this team is going to have a reasonable level of success in the conference season and beyond, which I think is the point implied by Kellie's comments on how the team can help Rickea average a double-double.

False. The 5 point swing happened with 1:33 left to play in the 3rd quarter

Also known as an agenda.
The 5 point swing happened with 1:33 left to play in the 3rd quarter...OK,,,
Alright,,,here's the link

Start the game at the 30:00 minute time point,,,, 20-29, down 9

Keep your eyes on Rickea, body english, speed, facial expressions, how much "fight" is she showing..
From there there are 3 straight turnovers and an elbow in the gut to Rickea 33:48/5:08 (22-33, down 11)

Look at Rickea when she gets up, talks to herself, sits on the bench and puts on a game-face

If you don't see a difference in her game from that point on,,,you don't want to see it
4:43 tv timeout, RL fouled,,,at foul-line look at her face now,,,gameface (down 11)
1:44 on the clock and lead cut t o 28-35 (down 7)
Down 8 at the half

Q3 55:08/7:3...38-44, down 6
Q3 55:48/6:49...41-44, down 3
Q3 56:40/5:57...Jackson misses a 3 gets her won rebound, drives for 2... 43-44, down 1

The change in the game started exactly when I said it did
NO AGENDA!

That all occurred in the third Q, boo. Igbok. No hard feelings here. With me anyway. 😉
They didn’t really get it cranked up in third until they traded a couple of baskets.

You and I have been good for too long, poo
"We see what we look for"
I see what I see
In the 2nd half
I see a continuation and a new sense of belief.
This tells me Kellie kept it going and that is a plus for me from her

So, when RJ went down, the LVs trailed by 9.

They were down 10 at the near end of the 2nd but Wynn hit a shot right at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 8. So, for the last 5 minutes of the 2nd quarter, the LVs treaded water, keeping the game in the 8-10 pt. deficit range. The Auburn lead got back to 10 at the start of the 3rd quarter and then 5 minutes later, the LVs took the lead and never looked back. Interesting that you think the "treading water" 2nd quarter is where all the big changes happened but not the 3rd quarter where the LVs erased a 10 point deficit and eventually pushed their lead up to 6 points. They then carried this momentum forward into the 4th quarter, pushing their advantage to a high of 12 pts., which then dwindled a bit in closing 2 minutes.

One more thought on RJ and her growth as a player (which we know can have absolutely nothing to do with Kellie and the staff). She was getting really frustrated (and understandably so) by Auburn mugging her repeatedly without any foul calls. Last year, in similar situations, she let that kind of hack and grab treatment get in her head and take her out of the game. This time, she used the adversity as motivation to go into assassin mode. It was a joy to behold.

I mean nevermind all those silly facts, we have Rickea's facial expressions to go by. That grimace was not from getting a gut punch, it was determination to take the game over at some point later on.

Guess it what book have you read during media time outs. Or it's that guy in the row is fine. Maybe it's who going shopping tomorrow. Or anyone know any jokes. Kellie or her staff just tell the player's their troublettheir no basketball x and o in the Tennessee huddle.

Well, I just watched the Auburn replay in super slowmo and Rickea, when on the bench after her literal gut check signaled to the team, via Morse code taps with her foot, this message -tap. tap,tap tap. taptap. tap. tap, tap, tap, tap. tap, tap

which translates as:

"Okay team the game changes now, right here with 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter, but we are going wait until 3rd quarter to actually close the point gap and take the lead. Everybody got that?!!"

I guess Kellie really had nothing to do with it all....

I’ll go with what Ciampi said….sometimes coaches get caught up in plays, sometime you let your players play. So I guess it could be said all she had to do was stay out of the way and let RJ and Powell play.

LOL ways an ingame gut punch could be worse: an Ole Miss men's player just threw up on the court right in front of the scorers table.

As interpreted by experts, his expression said "dang they're never going to let me live this down". The expression of the guy who had to come out and clean it up said "dang it's usually just sweat!"
