We wouldn't be in this position without Gregg; she has been huge the last month. She, Geathers and Overstreet seemingly have been our best hitters for a while--all have gotten key hits in big spots. Geer and Aldrete have not done much and Koenig seems a mess. She should go back to the same stance and mindset she had early in the season, though the mindset part is easier said than done. I could see her sitting today in favor of McSwain.

I assume fsu will go with their other pitcher today, and I don't know who we will start--Gaffin, maybe, and bring in Gabriel later--the reverse of yesterday. .

Putting Overstreet in the leadoff spot was a creative and unexpected move. K. Weekly said that the Vols don't really have a classic leadoff hitter--but certainly Lewis and Gaffin seem to fit the profile pretty well. Both have more speed than Overstreet, but then Overstreet, when she is going well, is a better hitter. We have got lineup options (flexibility) and the Weeklys are smart to us them. It would be nice to get the bats going today and put up 6 or so.

Woke up today reliving what a fantastic comeback that was last night.

I agree about Gregg, armchair. She was hitless last night when she came up in the bottom of the 7th, but she delivered. Big time.

I'm glad that the baserunning error in the 6th didn't end up costing us the game.

So far I am hitting .1000. Here are my selections and predictions for Supers.

Kentucky @ Florida Florida in 2 (Kentucky is looking exhausted)

NC State @ Oregon Oregon in 2 (Oregon either still hasn't peaked or might not....regardless still win with talent alone)

Georgia @ Michigan Mich in 2 (you gotta beat Mich...not likely)

ULL @ Auburn Auburn in 3 (what's Auburn gonna look like in the WCWS?? Tired?? Motivated??)

Arizona @ LSU LSU in 3 (LSU sputtering...might have peaked weeks ago)

Oklahoma @ Alabama Alabama in 3 ( this will be the most interesting I believe....this is a coaching show)

Missouri @ UCLA UCLA in 3 (UCLA too strong in pitching over Mizzou)

Florida State @ Tennessee Tennessee in 2 (I just don't think Fla St has an answer for Tenn.)

First of all, Gregg is freaking awesome. Second of all, I must have missed Taylor hitting so bad she needed a pinch hitter. I guess I just missed her drop off, I thought she was hitting well enough. I was also really surprised to see Tarango in there but she held it together.

Our girls are finding a way to win, gotta love 'em. Does anyone else feel like we are less than prepared for some games though? I would say it is just me being new to following fast pitch but watching how fired up a team like Michigan comes out and then watching our sometimes really flat appearance followed by an "up" appearance soon after has me scratching my head at times.

I don't think she'll ever have the range or arm that Shipman had but she is a much better hitter as a freshman than Shipman.

When she scoops and throw to first she looks like a gold glove player. Her fielding is excellent! A future all american!

Gregg was booting the ball all over the infield earlier in the season. Her fielding was terrible. She has miles to go equal Shipman, imvho

I only casually follow and don't know all of the specifics about the team. But, I believe your head scratching moments have to do with youth. We have 5 girls that have double digit home runs, and all 5 are freshmen or sophomores. There are going to be growing pains with young players. Right now, we are 1 win away from the CWS with one senior on the roster. If the Weekley's can find another pitcher or two, this program is set up to be championship level for the near future.

Gregg has cleaned up her fielding IMO. The weaker infielders now are whoever is at third (Overstreet is marginally better than McSwain as a fielder) and Geer. Geer has inexplicably regressed as a fielder. Gaffin and Gabriel are solid defenders out of the circle. Koenig is solid at first. Tarango is a little shaky at first but she's played that position the last three years so she should be ok.

The outfield is solid. Lewis has a weak arm but covers a lot of ground. Gaffin and Geathers are solid. I also think McClain will be really good next season. Overstreet is solid as an outfielder.

The only time I cringe are ground balls to third or second.

Lewis and Tarango are both seniors. The #2 rated recruiting class in the country arrives next season including a pitcher whose name escapes me. Gabriel will hopefully be dynamite next season.

For now, I'm riding the train as far it goes this season.

Of the first three SEC teams to play, Tennessee so far the only team holding up our end of the deal. Georgia got drilled last night and Auburn is down 4-1 in the 3rd.

I wouldn't shed a tear to see Auburn go out early. They've had our number (3-1) on the season and would be in our half of the bracket for the WCWS.

Not surprising about Georgia. Michigan is really good and still smarting from last season's final day two-game loss to FSU in the super regional.

I wouldn't shed a tear over Auburn either. Myers is a really good coach and Ralph speaks highly of him, but I never much liked him. I remember him making snarky comments about the SEC when he was still PAC-12 and then he jumps ship to come to the SEC. But then again I'd like to see Tennesse be the team to send them packing.

I don't expect anything. A little civility would be nice, but on an internet message board that would be a foolish expectation. I hope the LV's watch the FSU press conference and take a little extra motivation from it. Why are you so combative?

I wasn't being uncivil or combative. However, your expectation of how the losing team should act is a little unrealistic. Why fixate on them?

You've got to admit though her fielding is much better. Shipman was like a sand crab how she moved around the infield and a rocket arm. But, Gregg will be very solid defensively.
