Game Thread: Lady Vols v MTSU; Away game; Wed Dec 6th at 7:30PM; ESPN+

I went to the game. It was like a home game for MTSU. Honestly, I haven't followed Lady Vols at all this season, (nor last). Haven't seen a live game since Pat Summit era, so I'm a blank slate. I went because a) It's the VOLS, and b) I could walk there from my office.

What I saw last night seemed like a high school game. Their fans brought it. Band and everything. As far as Hustle, MTSU was going crazy and our team looked flat and uninspired. Rare to get a rebound and even rarer to keep from turning the ball over. I think if you played that group 5 times, they would beat you 4 at least. Not a good look from my chair. Being honest, and I see through the threads here in this forum a lot of dissatisfaction.

But, I can't judge on just one game. Need a body of work to analyze and I don't have that. Just what I saw last night here in Huntsville.

Kellie ways whipped and defeated in that press conference...should have sent Clipboard John out there to answer some questions ..

Everyone screamed JS will be great here....but now it's CKH fault because she isn't...

Do transfer not study the offensive styles of the school they desire to attend , especially if you're a star from another school...

If Jewel is the mega star everyone says ,she would be demanding the ball, every trip down the court instead of standing at 3 point line....

Yes CJH needs to go but when do these players get some blame...
They get paid now , let's not forget that ....

I have no answers for Spear. She is playing for a high draft pick.

In the presser the reporter asks "Coach you said you want the team to take ownership of the loss..."
Kellie says, "Individually they've got to look inside and see where each person can get better..."
I blew a fuse at that point and cut the thing off.

even the game announcer said this multiple times....."TN made no in-game adjustment to their high-screens for the shooter..."(and did not extend the low-post's defense, leaving the 15 footer open all game.)

MTSU literally ran the same set over and over with no adjustment too counter it.

They, We, us,,,,How about "I"!
Later in the presser, she does say that she picks apart every single decision she makes.

Hearing Kellie talk about players needing to take some ownership and step up as leaders in the locker room kind of confirms that what we're seeing on the court is a lack of confidence and players being down on themselves. Maybe also a little bit of "woe is us" with our injuries. I think it can be true that the staff needs to do something, anything different to build better offensive and defensive systems to set players up for success (and have better substitution patterns), and that individual players have to up their mental toughness - the individual player mistakes and untimely turnovers in this game were quite shocking.

Players on court should get mad when things aren't going well...

Only one I've seen get mad on court is sitting on bench injured rite now....

Well Puckett gets mad at herself....two plays last night she throws up 2 three pointers that had Zero chance of going in....

Also everyone saw Striplin was having night of her life....feed her the ball till she pukes...

I’d like to know out of the 7 players on MTSU roster from TN, which ones we recruited. Gregory dominated the game from outside and was everything we want in a shooter.

It's not hard to see that theses player's have quit on the coach. Striplin was the only one that played inspired last night. Probably because it was her first start.

She looks like a coach with no answers......defeated and lost.

And judging by what we have coming back and lined up for next year.....I think the time for a move is coming soon.
The team we put out there last night is essentially the team we are going to be next year if no change is made.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m worried about the Eastern Kentucky game. They are 8-1. It seems we are going to struggle with any team with a pulse. And it’s absolutely a must win game.

I was thinking that Striplin had started at least once previously, but could be wrong.

Striplin and Puckett are both from Alabama. Don't know how close their home towns are to Huntsville.

Any kind of “must win” for this group is almost certainly a defeat before the ball is even tossed. No confidence and no ability or desire to handle pressure situations.

That’s a top down problem. I was disappointed to hear Kellie subtlety throw her team under the bus. She’s the head coach. Product on the floor is a direct result of how she does and does not handle things.
