Game Thread Lady Vols vs Auburn

An expected post from some. Not a surprise. I would ask you to list all the ways this was poor coaching, but, I'm not really interested in it.

I agree. This was not poor coaching. The fact is that two of the best LV players are the two freshmen guards, Westbrooks and Hayes. Hence, you have 28 turnovers, 14 by the two freshmen. Cut down on the turnovers and the score would have been 80-49 instead of 70-59.

Holly is doing a good job of coaching. She is not CPS but other than Geno, who is.

Definitely not a pretty win, but this was a loss last year so I'll take it!

And I keep remembering how hopeless I felt about Lady Vols basketball at the end of the last several seasons, and so this team's ability to make me enjoy watching them again is EVERYTHING to me.

They may lose a handful of games going forward, sure. But I believe this team will fight to the end, and that gives me hope that they are capable of winning some of the big games that were losses in recent years.

That's certainly a big part of it....

LOL 😂😂😂 im sure beating 4 top 25 teams that were ranked at some point (OSU IS currently ranked) doesn’t have anything to do with it... have you looked at Ms St schedule ? Doesn’t look better than ours and their SEC slate is lighter than most... soooo yea good try... NOT!

Texas A&M beat Kentucky 74 to 70 at home so that seems a lot closer than expected. Arkansas and Miss St were tied 25 to 25 in the second quarter at Miss St. SC over Ole Miss 88 to 62. LSU 49 Missouri 42 third quarter. Georgia over Vandy 68 to 45.Alabama over Florida 63 to 54.

Left foot, right foot, breathe.

ND can’t afford to do that, Ms St presses sometimes, SC doesn’t really press, and A&M presses sporadically. Now these teams may try and implement this but I don’t know if they have the same amount of success. Unlike last years team this one finds a way to win.

Notre Dame, with all of their top players out with injuries, shouldn't beat Tennessee. We'll see.

As for the other top opponents, tonight's game provided the blueprint for how a strong team could rattle Tennessee, so regardless of whether they've pressed much up to now, my guess is they WILL when they face the Lady Vols.

The real test of Holly and her staff will be evident soon, because they will know exactly what's coming and will have the opportunity to get this group ready for it. Will they? Or won't they?

I don't mind a game like this if we win. This should get in the players minds that they have to take better care of the ball and get on the boards. Of course we've been turning it over to much all season but this was by far the worst of them all.

So what is that, two currently ranked teams the Lady Vols played in the pre-conference schedule? I guess we could say two-and-a-half if you want to count Stanford. Brutal...

For the season Hayes 51 assist and 56 turnovers. Westbrook 66 assist and 56 turnovers. Tonight it was 9 and 14 and I think Westbrook has six or seven 7 minutes into the game.

244 assist and 239 turnovers as a team. 17 turnovers a game we increased our season total by a turnover a game tonight.

Auburn was 25-79 from the floor. UT was 21-47.

Amazing we were able to win against a team that got 32 more shots.

She and her staff knew what was coming this time and TN looked rattled. Now all be it the majority of the turnovers not only came from our freshmen but Green as well. NONE of them have seen pressure like that this and all of them are used to doing anything they wanted to opponents. Green got multiple steals and rebounds and tried to outlet right away instead of clearing the ball and getting it to a guard. Westbrook got rattled and started second guessing herself part of that is her and the other part is STILL her teammates don’t expect her to get them the ball like she does. Evina doesn’t give her passes away with her eyes or body language so you have to be ready at all times if you’re her teammate because she truly sees a play ahead.

I won’t say the true test is coming because all of these have been tests to the players and staff... starting two freshman a real test, giving three freshman major minutes is a test, getting everyone to play unselfish a TRUE test! I think preparing for the press and the upcoming schedule are just more tests. This is a great time just focusing on b-ball to work on these things!

The great thing with this team with all the tests they keep passing 😎

I don't know what this team will do but I do know that tonight is about as bad as we can play ever. If we can win as badly as we played then we can win against anybody if we play well.

Marquette was ranked
Stanford was/is ranked
OSU is ranked
Oh shoot ... Texas was ranked #2

So I don’t know where you learned to count but that’s four bud! Also I don’t know where you learned to read I said “that were ranked at some point” 😎

Yikes, being this much of a hater must take a lot of energy! I’ll enjoy this team, Holly will enjoy this team and making 6 figures, and you enjoy... uhmmm I dunno making little kids cry? Kicking puppies? Whatever floats your boat 😂

If we play this team again??????
It will be a15–20 point win!!🤔

the positive about darth vol is he wasn't around for about eight months. (smile)

It wasn't an accident that Auburn beat TN by 18 last year - they will win a lot of games with their style.

Agreed.

I have to admit that I'm a bit worried about how the staff will get this team prepared for tge gauntlet they're about to go through. I mean, who will be able to mimic the pressure defense well enough to be truly helpful? What new drills could be put into the practice schedule to help?

There's a heckuva lot of growth and improvement that needs to happen very quickly if Tennessee wants to get dubyas against the toughest opponents.

I guess I'm afraid there's not enough time to get it done! :eek:hmy:

Sure is a lot of growth that needs to happen no doubt! This game was a tough one for Russell when you’re depending on guards to get you the ball and they repeatedly turn it over.

The good thing someone’s having a young team they are so oblivious to pressure and they just go play and f they make a turnover ok I’m going to Jeep playing. Unlike last years team where things snowballed this team is like “Dang that wasn’t a good play guess I just gotta get a steal/block” and make a shot... lol

I think handling it one game at a time is seriously helping this team as well. I can almost guarantee you they are not overlooking Vandy as this is a pride game and if one thing these lady are full of is pride. Annie being from TN doesn’t wanna lose a game to a state school if at all, Evina has a little attitude and I like that. She is not gojng to want to give them a win... I feel getting Rennia going before this stretch could be key as she causes match up problems at spots all over the floor.

A key Holly made was to take Green out and get Davis in the game to knock down those baseline shots and she can make drives. She can also see over the defense and relieve pressure with the pass or dribble.

So I don’t know where you learned to count but that’s four bud! Also I don’t know where you learned to read I said “that were ranked at some point” 😎

You could work on some reading comprehension yourself as I specifically said "currently ranked." What they were ranked "at some point" is irrelevant as polls at the beginning of the season are wildly inaccurate. Lady Vol fans who have followed Holly's career of all people should know this....

I’ve said this all season, but we need a lot
More from Rennia Davis. She rebounds well, but she simply must score and be more aggressive in order for us to move up a level offensively.

Some major growth was experienced in the last two games. The girls won ugly and had an ugly win...This game was an extension of that until the end run. Anybody who stayed and watched the girls at the end of the game (Last 90 seconds or so) saw the girls playing as if it was fun again.

I believe to my soul that this will carry forth on into their next run. If so, it will mark a huge personal growth for team and staff to go through the rough times, unblemished.

Those who know me know I shoot from the hip...And I say this because it needs to be said...Coaching won this game tonight. Moves countering opposing moves... A good job of matchups...A timeout early to stop a run... and keeping the girls confidence in "game management", CHW did a good job tonight.

Then you changed WHAT I said and your response is invalid. So according to your WHO IS ranked then we have beat three ranked teams OSU, TX, Stanford! Soooo it’s more than the 2.5 you wanted to give them 😂 Again, whomp! Now I can see why everybody thinks you’re a clown on this site and true Lady Vol fans who have followed not only Holly’s career but the program know that !

Do us all a favor and delete your account... Which is probably one of the nicer things people say to you on a daily basis.
