Game Thread Lady Vols vs Mississippi State

We go through another recruiting cycle and how many players do we lose next year. We'll be down to about 6-7 players.

I disagree. Two Elite 8s and 1 Sweet 16 in 3 years doesn't happen by being lucky. There really isn't much talent on this team. I know some were highly rated out of high school but I don't see it in their games. Not one player would start on any Pat Summit team because she has great players.

So Holly was duped and wasted scholarships on over-rated players. So as not to repeat THAT mistake again - she didn't sign anybody this time around. Got it.

Charlie Cream still has bed hair from when he got up this morning. That or he has a big fail by tiring to look cool by spiking it.

This team would have been champions with Pat, this is all on Holly being inept, it is asinine to blame that many all americans. With a real coach this could have been a great year.

Just because they were All Americans in High School doesn't mean squat. Outside of DeShields, I see a bunch of overrated players. Name me one that looks like she is worth her ranking coming out of high school. I just don't see much talent and think people need to stop blaming Holly unless it's for not doing a good job of evaluating players coming out of high school. Carter, Cooper, Russell, Nared, all of them are average players at best

We ran out of gas holly keep running plays to diamond but the shots she hit yesterday was not going down and we started playing one on one exactly what they wanted.. And Mercedes is just soft she got pushed under the rim

Russell has no offense. When she has her back to the basket, her post moves are like line drives with no feel whatsoever. She's the polar opposite of Harrison.

Her only high point was that she was able to block 5'5 Morgan Williams 4 times.

Both of our posts were horrible tonight. Moore wasn't bad when she was in there. Should have player her more.

We couldn't make free throws when they called fouls. We missed a ton of shots in the paint. We were the horrible team tonight that showed up several times this season.

I have made this point from day one Graves can get you rebounds but vs a team with size in the post she has problems with getting good shots. How many wild shots did she just throw up. And as for Cooper and Reynolds just flat out liability`s straight up.

Who do you think was guarding (or not) Vivians most of the game? Nared scored 12 and gave up 30.

She's a 25% 3 point shooter. After she realized how hot she was she got on her pretty well in the second half. Vivians was going to be tough for anyone to stop tonight.

I agree. Her total " fail" has been in recruiting, not coaching. Just my opinion. She coached pretty well when she had decent players.

Nope.

It's 1 on 1 ball simply because Holly doesn't have a clue how to institute an offense

Let me start by saying I'm with the group that thinks we need a coaching change. But you're honestly going to tell me that after spending all those years as an assistant for Pat Summit, Holly doesn't know how to coach an offense? I'm sure there are other more reasonable explanations, but yours is not one of them

they did let a lot of physical play go one, which it seems they have since the Tournament start

the Lady Vols have to shoot better than they did, even the free throw shooting was off

I agree on free throws but on every single play when Lady Vols drove to basket or shot close to the basket there were absolutely mauled and 75% of time no fouls were called....that is the reason the shooting wasn't better ....the shooting % will definitely go down when you are knocked to the floor and stomped or your arm is hacked....I have said enough.I have been on Holly for her half court offense against the zone all year but Miss State played a man and they simply fouled and out muscled the Lady Vols with the REFS abundant help. The refs won this game and with that I retire from the board and will mix a stiff drink......

To tell the truth when you get past Diamond and Graves not a lot of talent on this team. Graves had a bad night looked like fatigue got her. Russell is a work in progress someone was way to kind to call her the top player in her class. I think there were a lot of players in that class better than her.

This team has loads of talent, they just needed a staff that knew what to do with it. Coming out of high school, almost everyone is a work in progress, it's up to the coaches to smooth those rough spots and work on each player's strengths. I don't see a lot of development in Warlick's coaching.

Russell is not aggressive at all even when it looks like she has the rebound she lets it get taken away from her easily.

Vivians hit some circus shots from 30 feets away. She was feeling it. Nared was in her face with a hand up and Vivians was still nailing jumpers. Totally unstoppable tonight.

why didn't holly use Jackson to hound vivians instead nared or Reynolds? She's fast enough and tough enough. Nared is too slow and Reynolds was hurt and has no offense.

Dunbar should have played the whole first half to save the legs of graves for the second half.

So, Miss St just has much better players and coaching had nothing to do with it? Get your head out of the Holly sand.

Cooper and Nared would be good players on a better team with decent coaching. We'll miss Bashaara. She took a beating the last two games and probably played through pain tonight.

The team's schiity season which caused them not to get a bye is why we lost the game. Having to play three straight to get to the championship is tough.

Even then, if what you say is true- how did they just lose to a team that had one player that could play for us? Was Alabama's talent better than ours also? There are major issues at the top. But to your credit, Holly will be back next year to amaze us with her amazing coaching.

Nared needs to learn to shoot on balance. She looks like she's falling forward, sideways, and rotating 45 degrees whenever she shoots in motion.

Same old bugaboos, missed lay ups, free throws, poor shooting by all,and allowing an opponent to be All World. That said, our offense for three games has started with DD at the top of the circle and moved from there. Tonight back to the old beat the ball through the floor offense as if bounces were to be counted as points, too many offensive possessions with zero or one pass, way too much one on one play,no hustle after loose balls and very poor defense by the team. The team was tired, but that doesn't excuse the lack of hustle. And again back to the same old substitution pattern. The entire team could not throw it in the ocean while standing in the surf, yet Dunbar did not see the floor and Middleton and Moore saw very limited minutes. So for those who thought Holly might have seen the light, well,no. An evenly called game by the officials it was not,but that is no excuse for the poor play nor game management.
