Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Oklahoma; Sun Jan 5th ; Home game; 3 PM Eastern; ESPN

Get real. This is a situational moment when we're down ONE point. Percentages say go inside with your best player...instead of jacking up a 3 from a 30s percentage shooter with 7 seconds still on the clock.

She was WIDE OPEN on a shot that she can make. They take shots all game long when they are open, and most are in the less than 50% chance of being made.

You are assuming that the pass to another player would have been successful, and you are assuming they would have made the basket. Nothing is guaranteed.

And as someone else said on here - had she passed it and OU intercepted the pass or the player she passed it to had to take a contested shot and it failed, everyone would be asking why she did not take the WIDE-OPEN shot.

I’ll have to go back and watch, but to me it looked the staff drew that up for Sara.
No way

Women’s sports has come a long way.

To add to that, IMO, theses 3 refs, considering the entire game, were fine in an intense, action packed game. It seems all too rare.
Today they worked well together, as opposed to the last game when one incompetent was allowed to totally impact a game.

From CKC's radio interview:

Didn't bring urgency on D for all 4 quarters--again!
Got into our selves feeling bad when shots weren't dropping. We will show them their body language. Wasted a quarter.
OU averages 18 more rebounds than their opponents. LSU averages 17 more. We will see whether we fix this or not.

CKC knows why they lost, and it is not because someone missed a shot at the end of the game.

I figure some people here have only been watching since conference play started (or since football season ended), so for those of y'all: no, Puckett has not been making those shots this season. It's been a very rough season from behind the arc for her.
JMO I didn't want any of our players taking a three. I was all about the drive to the basket see if they could make a shot or get a foul called.

I felt they let both teams play and only called the outlier fouls verses calling every little touch foul.

Spearman was the no-show. We will have to see if that was just a one-off or if that is what happens to her against bigger posts. Because I will tell you right now, we will face MUCH better posts than Beers.

I kind of understand what you’re saying and to me it wasn’t the opponent Spearman looked lost on the court at times. I’ll admit some of that inconsistency goes back to the film from her highlights at Miami as well.
In 13 games with the Lady Vols, she had seem to make really good strides.
I always expected ups and downs but I can’t understand why she tends to get frustrated with her teammates for her own mistakes. Has to accept accountability and grow up to become more mature as a player.
That needs to get handled ASAP.

Honestly, they failed to take a victory in a game where they were outplayed all game. The lost by 1 point and played terrible except for the last 4 minutes or so.

Radio commented before the game that this was the SEC's "most experienced crew."

Yes I commented that it was the dumbest possible thing you could do to leave any player open from three in that context. Including Cardoso.

So last year it was “ the dumbest possible thing you could do” but today you say it was good coaching by OU to do it. So, in your world, it is not the initial decision that determines whether a coaching decision is smart, it’s the result that determines how smart the decision is.

You are a classic second guesser who won’t stake out a position until the results are in and then you complain and take personal shots at players.

SMH.

Inbound pass goes to Cooper
she passes to Sara at the arc (9+ seconds left)
NO ONE cuts hard to the hoop or sets up for a pass inside
Sara turns with 8.3 on the clock and shoots without a look anywhere else
Oklahoma pulls down the rebound with over 5 seconds left

It sure had the look of a called play,,,IMO

Totally different scenario. The ONLY way South Carolina could beat us was with a three point shot. You don’t leave anyone unguarded on the perimeter in that situation.

In this situation you WANT to bait someone into taking a bad three. You’re only up one point. A layup wins the game. A foul on a drive probably does the same or at least forces OT. They got exactly what they wanted out of that defensive possession which was for our worst shooter to take an ill advised shot.
