Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Oklahoma; Sun Jan 5th ; Home game; 3 PM Eastern; ESPN

Inbound pass goes to Cooper
she passes to Sara at the arc (9+ seconds left)
NO ONE cuts hard to the hoop or sets up for a pass inside
Sara turns with 8.3 on the clock and shoots without a look anywhere else
Oklahoma pulls down the rebound with over 5 seconds left

It sure had the look of a called play,,,IMO

Are you a coach or not? Pretty obvious she was supposed to be the screener for Cooper with Spear in the corner. Classic play in that situation. If cooper was gonna give it up she should have gone and gotten it right back.

No way Kim would encouraged a shot with that much time left either. You don’t want to give them another look at the basket in that situation.

Yes I am a coach and I know a called play when I see it

watch the play in slow mo
Coop barely moves after giving the ball to Sara,,,if it was a screen for Coop, she would have been briskly moving towards the screener or the hoop,,,not slow stepping

Coop was positioning for a long rebound

further, look at Kim's demeanor,,,she watches the shot and is not stunned or reacting..if she didn't call it, she had plenty of time to call a timeout before the shot left sara's hands

Looking forward to seeing the game video, and who OU was double-teaming on that last possession.
Also looking forward to seeing how and where we've improved when we face LSU.

Mulkey should have the coaches' fashion runway all to herself Thursday night.
I'm good with conceding that County Fair ribbon.

LSU is a better coached team but not as good as OU imo. Going to be similar very likely.

Why do you say "no way"? A three that early leaves you open for a putback 2 to take the lead. Just didn't work out that way. [my problem is, as other people have said: if that's your plan, why not let Darby put up that three? At the very least, OU would have had to defend her]

Too funny! But true! CKC doesn't play the dress up fashion game that some coaches in the conference play. She doesn't seem like that type.

With a little over 8 seconds left, Sraa, a very nice young lady, threw up another one of her many bricks this season....The clock shows how long 8 seconds really is.

They knew Beers was not going to come out and guard. You make some and you miss some.. Time to move on! the Game is won and lost way before that shot..

Anyone upset with a wide open shot to win the game is an imbecile. A moron. A complete and utter idiot. I seem to remember Puckett winning an NCAA tournament game with a three pointer at the end of the game, too. She also hit a three a few minutes earlier, as well. It's much easier to set up a defense out of a timeout with mere seconds left than it is to run some magical play to get a basket. Yet, we got a wide open look with some time left on the clock to get a potential put back. Take it, take it all day. The more problematic stuff was much earlier in the game.

Jesus, relax some of you. We're 13-1 in a transition year. It'll be fine. A loss may even do us some good.

Only complaint, maybe Sara should’ve waited a bit longer? But really if a catch & shoot is drawn up ya have to ignore clock and take the shot in rhythm.

I'm over it,,,game's done,,shtuff happened
hopefully we learned from it for the next time
next game, Thurs vs LSU

Definitely a loss ya can build on. Love the fight this team has, once the girls really get comfortable in defending full court we’ll see less risky steals that lead to open layups.

They’re all still figuring out, pressure without pressing.

Yeah, I am going to assume that was not the designed play even if Kim says she had every faith in the world that she would make it bc that is what a good, kind coach should say. I think Oklahoma had every intention in the world to let Puckett be the one to shoot it, and it paid off for them.
I thought the Vol player who was so hot shooting threes would get the last shot.

News flash. Not the play she called.

You can't say that the coach didn't want her to take a three, after all isn't that her MO? The LVOLS haven't been in this situation yet this year, so how the coach plays the end of a game is yet to be determined. Still, I was wondering, while the team was just scoring multiple 100 point games and humiliating their under matched opponents, wouldn't it have been prudent to stop the running, and work on other parts of the game that maybe the team isn't so good at during the fourth quarters? Inside game, pull-up jumpers? It's tough getting the first loss, but maybe the coach can learn from it. Nobody is going undefeated this year, plenty of games to go.

Cause we didn't need a three to win. We needed two points and one to tie. It just wasn't the right call if that was the designed play.
The three was wide open. Not much time on the clock and you take a wide open shot rather than taking a difficult shot with on time left. I think it was the correct time to take it.
