Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Oklahoma; Sun Jan 5th ; Home game; 3 PM Eastern; ESPN

The three was wide open. Not much time on the clock and you take a wide open shot rather than taking a difficult shot with on time left. I think it was the correct time to take it.

Sorry but no. All conventional basketball wisdom in that situation says go to the rack. If you’re down one you go to hole. You either score and win, or get fouled and have a chance to win it at the line.

You preferably make your move with about 6 seconds on the clock so there is time for a put back if you miss and don’t get fouled.

Not dwelling on the shot at all we missed enough in the first half to make that shot irrelevant. You win some and lose some onward to the next game.

You can't say that the coach didn't want her to take a three, after all isn't that her MO? The LVOLS haven't been in this situation yet this year, so how the coach plays the end of a game is yet to be determined. Still, I was wondering, while the team was just scoring multiple 100 point games and humiliating their under matched opponents, wouldn't it have been prudent to stop the running, and work on other parts of the game that maybe the team isn't so good at during the fourth quarters? Inside game, pull-up jumpers? It's tough getting the first loss, but maybe the coach can learn from it. Nobody is going undefeated this year, plenty of games to go.

Do you have those questions with UCONN during their conference schedule? They weren’t intentionally setting out on a mission to humiliate teams that’s just a dumb analysis. When the Lady Vols beat teams like Florida State, Iowa, Middle Tennessee State, Richmond who is as good as any team that UCONN will beat before playing the Lady Vols and South Carolina you were silent.
Against Iowa executing in the half court is what they did in the 2nd half. Same thing against Florida State.
Coming here now to make smug comments just proves how bothered you are about Tennessee’s resurgence as the most historic program in WBB into the spotlight.
Get ready because this is just the start.
Tennessee is back!
Top 10 team no doubt about it!
GBO!!

News flash. Not the play she called.

the problem with this system is that .. subbing 5 players in and out. regardless if you are coachable or not.. if you have any talent and in the top 10.. you are going to play regardless. This does not happen with a different system. Coop and Spearman dribble way to much and does not do a good job without the ball in their hands.

I thought the Vol player who was so hot shooting threes would get the last shot.

That’s a classic play. Puckett was supposed to set a screen at the top of the key for Cooper to go to the rack. Spear was hot so she was spaced into the corner on the same side for Cooper to hit her if her player doubled.

OU played it smart. Doubled the ball with Puckett’s player, forced Cooper to give it up and baited her into an ill advised shot.

If we had just run the play there is a much better chance we win. Not ideal having a 23% shooter take that shot. Regardless of what she’s done in the past she is currently a very poor shooter.

Dude let it go.

A loss always brings out the fans and others to question the team. The facts are we shot the three poorly in the first half and missed 6 free throws and numerous layups. It happens to every team and we will be back were going to beat some of these top ten teams we just have to put four quarter together and I think we will. Games always come down to shooting. We had 18 more shots than they did only had to make one of those to win. Best team we've had in years and they are going to get better as the season progresses. We will be a dangerous tourney team it is coming.

I think LSU is better to OU. they are Quicker, run the floor better and shoot better. It will be another tough game.I do think the team learned a couple of thing from this game which will benefit them in the future.

I do not, LSU has played with low energy in a lot of games. They don’t have a consistent point guard and then do not have a center at all. They only beat a very bad Auburn team by 10 today.

Were the underdog in the LSU game and should be. Not expecting to lose we can beat them at home let's see if we can make a better percentage of shots next time out.

lol this might be the dumbest take today. i see ur back on ur bs

This poster is here to spread misinformation. That’s their only agenda. Has done this constantly and is always making things personal with college players and coaches. It’s just not that serious. Can’t stand this type of foolishness.

Sorry, but she did the right thing. Wide open shot and a chance to rebound it Coach Wants them to take any wide open shot, threes included.
A heckuva comeback by the LadyVols even though it fell short. Very proud of them for almost coming up with a win. This team never gives up. If they had just made their foul shots and if someone else besides Jewel Spear had been making 3's it would not have been close. I definitely think UT is the better team.
On an unrelated side note, Lauren Hurst of Cleveland was once again sitting in my section and I was able to ask her if she was still planning on playing volleyball too and she said yes she was and that she was excited about that. I'm sure she has been in contact with coach Eve Rackham Watt about that matter. As someone on this forum stated before, I think she's liable to play more volleyball than basketball for the Lady Vols.
