Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Oklahoma; Sun Jan 5th ; Home game; 3 PM Eastern; ESPN

Talking about lack of heart after going 13-0 and then having a couple of bad quarters is gobsmacking.

I understand your point.
To be fair, the post they were referring to about a talent discrepancy was a horrible take.
Talaysia Cooper was the most talented player on the court. 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 9 steals is an insane stat line. Jewel Spear is getting back into form and is looking really good right now. She came to UT as a perennial All-ACC player.
Some others like Ruby and Samara had some good moments.
This had nothing to do with talent. Tennessee has to keep working, build chemistry, grow, and learn to play better as a team.

Remember, if someone's in-game posting style gets too depressing during a bad game, you can just put that poster on ignore during the game. Some folks just get super down and can't help posting their extreme disappointment. Obviously they love the Lady Vols and care deeply about them, but bad games make them lose their minds.

If they're ruining the game for you, just put them on "ignore" until the it's over. It's all good! 🧡
No, some posters need to grow up and control themselves.

Truly we have a more talented roster imo. Just did not show up to play on both ends of the floor. This one isn’t about talent it’s about heart.
16 down to start the 4th, didn't quit; still down 10 with 2:34 to go, didn't quit, and had a chance to win on a last second shot. That's heart.

You’re too defensive and wrong about this particular situation.
First, she’s not always the inbounder on sideline out possessions which this was.
When they are taking the ball out underneath the basket is when generally I’ve seen any of the point guards as the inbounder.
Second, you can’t watch that final play and not come away agreeing this played into Oklahoma’s favor. So with a timeout remaining and atleast a player or two not sure of the final play everyone can see the staff needs to manage this more efficiently from a strategic point.
First, she is always the inbounder on every play she is on the floor for, outside of off a made basket. Check the film, you won't find more than a handful of plays that she hasn't been the inbounder for when she was on the floor.

Second, the final play was coming out of a Tennessee timeout, so I doubt anyone wasn't sure what the play was. Even if you're correct, it's not legal to call back to back timeouts without either inbounding the ball or the opponent calling the timeout.

This game made it clear that there is a big gap between our first team vs. our second team. Our starter scored 77 points, and the bench players scored 9. I think that are weak schedule has masked this for the most part. While I do hope this is a low point for the bench, it is another indication that this is a rebuilding year number one. The way she recruits the type of players that fit her system, there is no reason to think that the 2nd team in year two and beyond may really be talented and help the platoon system.
Perhaps, but this was only the second time this season that group of five had started together. Hard for me to label the rotation that way. As Kim has said before, the starters and the rotations are based on how they finished the previous game and defensive matchups for the next game. I don't know that group is necessarily the "starters" going forward.

It was a wide open shot that she absolutely should have taken. In fact her only fault was hesitating and not giving more time for a possible offensive rebound.
I mean Cardosa knew that an open shot doesn't give a rat's rear what your percentage is when it's there in the excruciating loss to South Carolina.

It was inevitable we would lose. Now!!! IMO is how us as “Vol Nation” can collectively uplift this program.
“You win some, you lose some: BUT you live to fight another day” This team and coaching staff has lit a fire we haven’t seen in years. Let’s shake this off and acknowledge the defeat but remember “Lady Vols” are resilient and fighters! 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊first and foremost. *still sucks to lose ugh 😩 LOVE YOU LADY VOLS.

Which posts are better than Beers in the SEC? She's a walking double with a 68%shooting percentage that ranks her number 4 in the nation in that category.
None. She is the lone post like this in the SEC this year which is interesting giving typically were a post heavy league but also that is going to take them far because they have all the right pieces around her. She doesn’t have to be dominant each night because they have other great players so she’s not their focal point but she still gets hers. I would be interested in a matchup of them and UCLA in the tournament. This was impressive imo FOR that reason. This EASILY could have been a win and I think if we see them again, it will be. This team and staff is hungry. I hope they don’t hang the players don’t hang heads and just get in the lab and learn from it, come out swinging.

Analytical people see where the game was loss. It wasn’t on the last shot, it was the build up that led to the last shot being a make or break.
It's NEVER one play or one call that wins or loses games as long as multiple errors by players and coaches occur during the duration of the game. Fans can't see it but people that have played or coached understand it.

Thank goodness Kim is intelligent enough to not to have thrown Sara under the bus like some post-game “experts.” If the shot had not rimmed out, the hand-wringers would be screaming about the brilliance of it all. CKC prolly would have said the same exact thing she said in post game. Let’s win Thursday! It’s a long season.

Battling back to have an excellent shot to win the game has some pluses that can be built on—much better than a double digit debacle. The LVs had to overcome an overall terrible 3 point shooting (except for Jewel) and a frustrating series of defensive mistakes.

Right now, this team makes defensive plays but it is not a good defensive team, the analytics on full court pressing with 4 and sometimes 5 players have to be terrible. It’s like give up 5 layups for every turn over created. Even the comeback was not really about great defense, it started with OK missing some easy shots snd then the LVs strung together some baskets. They finally locked in defensively over the last 5 minutes.

Looking forward to seeing what adjustments are made after this game.

Always = except few?

We look at it different. No reason to put yourself in that situation. A lack of effort in the first 2.5 quarters put them in a position where they had to do that and still came up short. No good reason for it. Just play the game the way it’s supposed to be played and you’re not digging out of a 20 point hole with limited time. There was no heart in the first half when they were giving up wide open layups.

I made this post when we were down about 20 and everyone was saying OU just had a better roster and a better team. Quite clearly, they didn’t. We just played with no urgency or desire for 2.5 quarters. When you do that you’re going to lose to most teams with a pulse. Play like we did the last 5 minutes for 2 whole quarters and the game isn’t even close.

It’s exactly what Kim has been saying for weeks and it finally bit them in the butt. No reason to defend apathetic play.
