Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs So. Car. ; Mon Jan 27th ; Home game; 7 PM Eastern; ESPN2

Easy now best case scenario IS Lady VOLS Win ! Really hope they can pull out a upset. Maybe we're hot and there not. Got to improve the rebounding and post defense. GLV šŸ’„

That's right! Every now and then the stars align for a team. They step onto the court, they look Impossible in the eye, and they say, "Today is OUR day."

You really never know what could happen until it does. I hope our team gives their all and leaves the arena tonight feeling good about themselves, win or lose.

I don't think it's impossible at all nor that it would be a miracle if we beat them. We very nearly beat them 3 times last yr with a team said to be way worse than this one. The LV's margin is small and we need things to go wrong for So Car but it's def do-able. We can beat anyone on a given night and they can lose on a (rare) given night.

South Carolina is beatable. Nothing about this game is a mismatch. The biggest advantage that South Carolina has over Tennessee is on defense.
As I stated, SC played a close game for four quarters against Michigan.
Games come down to matchups.
Saying itā€™ll take a miracle to beat South Carolina simply isnā€™t accurate.
Tennessee will lose this game if they come out and play inconsistent.
It will come down to which Tennessee team shows up tomorrow night.
In the end, history will tell the true story. Is Tennessee capable of beating South Carolina, of course they are!! However, they will need to play some of their best ball in all phases of the game. This team is capable of winning any game it plays.

Well, that was a completely different team, coach, and approach. Can't really compare these two seasons except in that underdogs can sometimes surprise everyone, and last year's team (despite having Rickea) may have been an even bigger underdog than this year's team, yet they almost pulled off the upsets.

I am feeling strangely calm today, though ... like I feel confident our team will give their all, come what may. That's really what matters most to me. I spend money, I drive my decrepit old azz hours to attend home games in person. I kinda need the team to compete to make it all worth it to me, and with few exceptions, they always do. šŸ§”

There were a couple of games during Holly's era that the team totally checked out, but other than that, it has been great to be a Lady Vols fan. šŸ¤—

Iā€™m a little surprised the Vegas line only has us getting 11.5

I thought it would be 15-17 tbh

If we can cover that number, thatā€™s a respectable result imo.
Nobody has been able to beat UT by more than 4 this season, that isnā€™t an accident after 19 games. It will be a close game.

My final take leading up to the game tonight: this game has the makings of a perfect storm in favor of Tennessee. The lady vols are coming off back to back close loses on the road & will look to right the ship at home. The lady vols come out hot & energized & take an early 10 point lead over SC. SC weathers the storm somewhat but play from behind for most of the game. SC gets to within 5 points in the 4th but the lady vols resolve & determination to win prove to be too much to overcome.

Final: 71-68 lady vols

While I have thoroughly enjoyed the pace and style of this year's team along with the involvement and contribution of so many different players, I have noticed a couple of tendencies that give me cause to question a win in tonight's game: the tendency to dig a deep hole for themselves at some point against better competition and the inability to close out the games that go down to the wire. Two missed free throws, a turnover on an inbound play, a 3 point attempt in the final seconds by a player who is not known for her 3 point prowess, defensive breakdowns...I realize that these are all a part of the game, but consistently successful teams manage to limit these issues. Dawn Staley has again put together a stellar team of exceptional talent who know how to play together....and win. While anything is possible, I believe SC holds the LVOLS to a season low and wins 81-67. Coach KC seems to have this team on the right track but is a player or 2 shy of getting UT back into the elite company they dominated for so many years. I've got a feeling that won't be long! Go LVOLS!!

In SEC games only, SC averages 82 ppg and UT averages 84. On defense SC gives up 52 while UT gives up 74 I believe.

So stats favor SC, but stats wonā€™t win a game like this one where nobody has been able to distance themselves from UT by more than 4 points all season. Home court will be big in this one and there is a rivalry between the two though most donā€™t acknowledge it.

SCā€™s defense is elite, but UT always rises to their opponents ability where needed, so this will likely be a close low scoring game in my opinion, winner will be in the low to mid 70ā€™s and the opponent will be close on their heels at the end. It will be a true contest MAD, I would be shocked if it isnā€™t.

LVOCD, I donā€™t think decrepit would be an apt description of you because of your spirit. And remember ā€œoldā€ is just a state of mind. Keep cheering the Lady Vols and posting your thoughts.
