Game Thread Lady Vols vs South Carolina in the SEC Tournament

I honestly do not see them getting to the sweet 16 if they draw a team with experience and discipline. South Florida or Green Bay are examples of teams that can beat us.

well I've been drinking and thinking about that too :hi:

how long is it till they play ? I think the freshmen are wore down as Russell and Nared are

hopefully they have a good rest before the Tournament starts

Green and KK aren't 6'6 with the offensive arsenal MR has. Even if Holly wanted to, she could not build her offense around them the way she can with MR. No team will waste a double let alone a triple team on them.

Maybe that’ll be the blessing in disguise that is needed. I hope it’ll force Holly to not limit her players. If you recruit athletes and don’t play to their strengths what’s the point then.

your looking at it wrong,it will be a better post defense,if they can hit some 3s next year, the offence will open up for them :)

She just stands there and watches others rebound. Nared got upset with her. She acts as if she has no idea of what to do or where she needs to be. I will be glad to see her leave and IF she goes pro I hope that her coach will run her a$$ off and teach her how to DEFEND, REBOUND, BLOCK OUT, BE TOUGH, and everything else that Holly failed to teach her. Good luck, Mercedes. P.S. Show us some of these things in your next game and probably your last if you don’t. Do it for your teammates.

Nared hustled to save the ball to MR who just stood out of bound, allowing SC an easy layup!

I'd say 9/10 times when we have 11 Turnovers to their 27, we win, but that 1 time we lost was tonight because they missed too many layups. They were 20 of 75 shooting from 2 point range and it felt like half those misses were layups. Not sure where they will be seeded but unfortunately it feels like they will be lucky to make the Sweet 16. Since that 1st loss of the season, I'm not sure they've played a complete game up to the standards they did earlier in the year. But, as always, I would LOVE to be wrong.

Westbrook wears the brace as a precaution. She practices without it and isn't limited.

But she was hobbling at the end of the regular season. Her quickness isn’t the same and it doesn’t look like she gets the same lift either and she’s more hesitant now with the ball.

to me I'm glad they made the Tournament, that is all ways my goal for them, every year

now it is going to be win or go home,we shall see how they play

It's been a long, hard, disappointing season. She's probably worn down from the grind. Her confidence isn't the same, and her effort isn't the same, either. Holly said her knee injury wasn't serious and she isn't limited.

Lulz...its always the refs...haha...just face it....this team is not good.

People on here keep defending the sh1tshow. "If you don't like terribly played, discombobulated, street ball with no emphasis on passing and teamwork then don't watch, and don't make fun of Holly's blouse!"

Well ok.

Except for the blouse thing. I believe in constructive criticism, and truly believe Holly's sense of style, however woeful, still has some potential for salvation and reclamation. Most likely "What Not to Wear" would have to be resurrected and then dedicate an entire season or two to Holly Warlick.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for her coaching ability or the play of the Lady Vols.

Nothing and no one can work that miracle.

And to be fair the blouse was easier on the eyes than anything the lady vols show us on the court under the shaky and aimless guidance of Pat Summit's rah rah, good cop assistant.

I'm not even completely certain Holly is aware she is in charge of the team, and responsible for their play.

Every interview she gives, every time she speaks or reacts, she comes across as if she is simply a passionate fan or spectator, futile reactions and impotent gestures more fitting for someone with nothing more invested than cost of admittance.

"Wow! We're missing too many layups! You gotta stop that! Quit turning it over! No more 3's, We need to get the ball inside to Mercedes. I thought the defense played good. At least we fought hard."

Are we really payimg her $650,000 to be an overly dedicated cheerleader type fan with the best seat in the house?

Or am I missing something.

Holly's not a good coach, so I have no reason to think she'll be smart enough to even know her players' strengths and how to take advantage of them.

Tennessee offense is either "Inside OUT!!!!" or hot doggin street ball a la Diamond or Jaime. I expect nothing different next year, other than Rennia being the volume shooter at a sub-40% clip.

Maybe that’ll expose her to everybody else that she’s not a good coach. The people in broadcast and other coaches that take up for her in the media will see fans aren’t just being unreasonable in wanting her gone.

For all her flaws, MR is excellent at challenging paint shots without fouling. KK or Green do not occupy space the way MR does. On offense, MR draws double and triple teams, creating open looks from the perimeter. Those looks disappear next year, so they will either have to draw up plays for outside shooters (which Holly doesn't know how) or just go 1-on-5 like they are prone to.

Announcers will not criticize coaches or referees. Mostly because they are former coaches and NCAA will get them off the air if they say anything about officials

Who will care? The only time Tennessee is mentioned is during the "Is Tennessee Still An Elite Program?" halftime segments.

Not only are they no longer relevant in the discussions for Final Four contenders, they aren't even relevant in the SEC anymore.

The Lady Vols missed 63 shots tonight IMO because they had no legs tonight and were gassed because they were dog tired from last night's struggle with Auburn. They were dog tired because they only go 6 deep on the roster for significant playing time. They only go 6 deep because their coach doesn't develop players to a point where they can be trusted in important win or go home games.

I've beat this dead horse before in years past but I'm going to the whip one more time for old times sake. Why in the world are there only 10 players total on this roster when they are allowed to have 15 on scholarship.

No bench equals no accountability for the 5 on the floor. They can play as half-assed as they care to without any fear of going to the pine for a little recalibration. You also end up with players taking multiple posessions off to rest while out there. How does the biggest player on the floor not get one defensive reboud the entire game? I know that Pat never used all of her scholarships but she made it work because she developed the players she did have. Holly is just monkey see monkey doing in that aspect but she aint Pat. What if Nared's injury was more serious last night and she wasn't available for a couple of weeks. Where would this team be? I'm not even opening up the can of worms about X's & O's during gametime. There isn't any light at the end of this dark tunnel under Holly's guidance.
