Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Texas A&M, Thurs Jan 2nd ; Away game; 8 PM Eastern; SEC+ stream win 91-78

VolBall, c'mon... do you seriously think that our 11 and 12 girls are so much worse than our 8, 9, and 10 girls that we shouldn't be looking to get fresh leg minutes out of them in the 2nd half? Seriously. I mean, nobody is saying to take Talaysia or Whitehorn out of the game for Wells or Strickland. But we SHOULD be putting our bench 4 in the game in place of Boyd, Latham, Hollingshead... it's a flat mistake to give those girls 0 minutes when they could be an impactful 6th man for our sluggish starting 10 late in the game. [especially since some of the girls get more sluggish than others]

Yes I do. Strickland is constantly lost on defense. Cant be slow AND lost. Favor has the opposite problem. She is lost on offense, can defend but doesn’t understand where to go offensively at all she’s in the way a lot.

Only got to catch the 4th Q live and was almost unwatchable with a fouls called what seemed like every play. Ridiculous.

AC has killed UT at Auburn and now Texas AM. It's unreal, her best games each year seem to against UT.

Might not have been a pretty win, but scoring 90 plus on the road is not easy to do. Plenty of tape to watch and get ready for back to back home games against top 10 teams. I am hoping 13 plus thousand show up.

You only watching the 4th qtr makes what you said irrelevant because anybody that watched the whole game know that what statistics that player finished with might look decent on paper but she really wasn’t a factor.
Texas A&M wasn’t a factor. The refs controlled this game. Talaysia Cooper, Ruby Whitehorn, and Alyssa Latham pretty much set the tone in the 2nd qtr.
Jewel Spear was the best player on the court for all four quarters.
Saying Coulibaly killed UT tonight is comical.

Got to do better in half court defense. Got to stop penetration without fouling.

The fouling was a bit iffy based upon some sketchy reffing, but there were a lot of strong hand drives given up in the first place which allowed them to get right to the rim and give the refs a chance to make those calls. I think we need to be a bit better on cutting off those drives, especially in the half court defense.

I will say I’d much rather see Favor get some of Puckett’s minutes than watch Sara play more than 10 a game for the rest of the season. She kills us on both ends or the floor. But her half court defense in particular is unforgivable. Gives up more open layups than any player in LV history.

I think you're substantially underestimating how much athleticism matters for our backcourt press, and how leaving slow sluggish players on the court, when you have completely fresh legs on the bench, might hurt the team. Between Boyd, Puckett, and Latham, 0 2nd half points, 0 2nd half steals, and I don't take seriously the notion that Strickland would be worse than Puckett defensively. Puckett just does not have 16 minutes of SEC ball in her body, sad to say. If you really think that Strickland cannot get 5 minutes in the SEC, but Puckett should be getting double digit minutes, I don't know what to tell ya.

Yeah, so the only way to beat the refs is to adjust. We’re going to have to keep refining that. But damn. The officiating tonight was not just bad. It was the kind of bad that needs correcting.

It was worse than the MTSU game and that was, at the time, the worst I could remember

Exactly. The refs were that bad. Anyone who can’t see that needs to watch again.

That is why I said earlier it’s definitely something we must not know about from practice.
First, I can’t comprehend why Talaysia Cooper and Ruby Whitehorn have been in and out of the starting lineup.
Their on court play has been stellar.
Some of the best guard play I’ve seen in WBB. Yes, they make mistakes. Give them a chance to play through it.
Sara Puckett play has been inconsistent. Alyssa Latham seems like per minutes she is producing at a much better rate on both ends of the court.
Same with Jillian Hollingshead. She has been pretty solid.

Coop had 7 turns today. We can’t have that. I’m guessing that has to do with her not starting. She has to be smarter with the ball.

Spearman's +/- ended up being the worst on the team tonight, suprisingly enough. Tennessee was -15 the 19 minutes while she was on the court [-13 if you remove the garbage-time last two plays] and +28 the 21 minutes she wasn't on the court.

She put up 14 points, so I guess the defense was playing awfully through her stints.

She was way too worried about the officiating and not blocking out and playing defense. She needs to stay engaged in the game.

She tends to go back and forth with the officials way too much, needs to mature on that aspect. Just get your butt back and play. Instead she’s arguing a call or no call like she’s LeBron all the way down the court.

She presses to hard at times. She is a great player just trying to do too much. Yeah I think not starting May hurt her game. Just tries to force it to much. We're lucky to have such a talented player.

Get this idea of a perfect game out of your mind.
Coop won’t be the first or last player to have a high turnover game.
You live with the mistakes.
It’s one aspect of a game. That’s not why she isn’t starting.
If that’s the case, as many have said some others players wouldn’t be in the rotation.

Not asking for perfect but 7 turnovers is terrible.
