My take:
LVs already had a mental hill to climb without CKC being their coach on the road against Top 10 team. That said, I believe Coach Jenna did a fine job and there’s a reason CKC has kept her on staff. She had a tough row to hoe and she exceeded expectations.
Physically, the LVs don’t have the pieces to match up with Texas bigs. I thought they had a great game plan, but a few-and I mean few- little things by some players here and there were the difference. Mentally, they were gunshy because of the one-sided foul tally. At least one player had the flu. Stuff like that matters in these games.
They did, however, show grit. This was 4th loss, with 3/4 coming against Top 10 teams, by a total of 8 points, and was on the road in prime time with first year substitute coach.
You think about who’s coming in next year and the ones who will still be here. I don’t see a reason for anything besides optimism with that.
They had to deal with all of these things and dang near pulled off another Top 10 road win.
It’s a long season and I fully expect them to keep pounding. Eventually they’ll break through. I’m awfully proud of them!!

Which is why it’s awful imo. Losing is losing.

Alabama lost to Texas by 40. Should they not make the tournament too? What about Oklahoma loss to Mississippi State? Many of the top teams that will make the NCAA tournament already have 3-4 losses and will get more. With the net system when losing you cannot lose badly and losing on the road doesn't hurt you like it would at home against an unranked team. We just need to crush these teams we should be beating and have no more Vanderbilt like losses and our chances of hosting will be really good.

I just want the staff to be competent enough to switch things up sometimes. A zone to prevent the penetration, all the guards crashing the boards on the defensive end, SOMETHING to disrupt what Texas was doing to keep the advantage. I’m rarely seeing adjustments in some of these bigger games.

We’re so close, but it’s frustrating to not see any progression halfway through conference play. I mean we just lost the previous game on an offensive rebound, what did they practice this week?! Why aren’t we sending damn near the whole team to the defensive glass?!

It is going to get worse. We are just at the start of a losing streak. No way this team beats SC or UConn. And there is a really good chance they get discouraged enough they drop games to teams like MO.

This team plays harder for less result than any I remember. Part of it is they are equal parts young and unused to playing with each other in a new system. But they also seem to be stubborn about clinging to their bad habits.

So much is going to ride on our games w KY, Bama, and Ole Miss. KY lost tonight and that's going to help us a ton. And for sure, we have to avoid the unexpected upset fm someone like Fla or Aub.

We have 4 losses on the season by a combined 8 points. We’re not that far off from being a great team. I know we’re not into moral victories, but Year 1 under Caldwell isn’t terrible at all.

As far as the glass, we were just so outsized and out muscled it was nigh impossible. Some of us said fm preseason the lack of post size would be a problem. Great as the incoming class is, so far there's no size. Portal this spring is our hope.

You must have never seen a Pat Summitt coached team. 1 person blocking out is not gonna get it done. We lost to vandy on a last second due to Samara Missing a box out on Blakes. This team needs a Lady Vol from the Pat Summitt coaching tree to run rebounding drills. This team is trying to rebound using athleticism rather than technique and that doesn't work in the SEC.

From the Vandy Game to this game, this team improved leaps and bounds especially with the offensive attack and the full court defense. Now they need to go to work on rebounding and interior defense. Rome was not built in a day and neither is a basketball team...

Zone would have been good to try when you face a team that just does not shoot the three ball. Just for a change of pace every now and then.

I’ve been somewhat charitable with you given the material you provide us on a regular basis, but are you really this clueless? In the NET rankings, which is very obviously what they were referring to, we’re 14th and 5th in the SEC.

If you think a weekly AP poll is more consequential than that, you should probably stop watching basketball.

Yep, if we don't get portal help we will be a smaller team next year than this year.

NIL needs to go all out on a couple of players with size.

100% agree!

Tonight's game was lost at the free-throw line. The shots the Lady Vols missed plus all the extra shots given to Texas that they shouldn't have had. Where does the SEC keep getting these ridiculously terrible, biased referees from? The ones tonight were atrocious. One prime example is the foul that was not called on the play where Talaysia Cooper's knee was injured by the opposing player. The refs kept calling non-existent fouls on the Lady Vols all night long. This nonsense has got to stop.
I thought Jenna did an admirable job of filling in for Kim at tonight's game. She called some timely time-outs at the end of the game and kept her composure the whole game. I don't see Kim missing the South Carolina game, she is way too competitive for that. Her husband and mother can take care of the baby and I wouldn't doubt that her older sisters are there also.

I agree with your comment. If we had made our FTs, we win this game and I believe we also would have prevailed against LSU, Vandy, and OK. We need a better FT% and get better board play. We have all the pieces. This team will be formidable before conference play begins. GBO.

I really think some folks really should consider hanging up their fan sneakers for this year, go dive into another more fulfilling hobby, and then maybe think about considering a fresh start watching the Lady Vols next season. I don't even know you but the misery vibes are so strong people like me can feel them. Take some time off. It'll be good for you, especially if you find a pastime that actually makes you happy.

We scored 76 -- the second most points scored on Texas all year. In their only loss, Texas gave up 80 to ND.

it’s not about that. it’s about players playing with fouls and how fouls themselves change the trajectory of the game.

This may be true, but we are 14th. If they pulled the seedlings tomorrow the committee would most likely have us hosting.

I think our current resume falls just short of a host. Iowa skidding has hurt. Only 2 quad 1 wins as things currently stand and one of those is Richmond, and that is barely hanging on as a Q1 currently.

We’re actually a couple more Iowa and Richmond losses away from possibly having NO quad 1 wins and you’re never getting a host spot with that.

We’d probably be a 5 seed right now imo

NET is a tool, but it’s not the be-all and end-all when it comes to the committee

Truth be told, and you won’t find a better analysis of this on the thread the difference tonight was 3 missed shot attempts.
I’m not going to name the players but there were three good looks in the 4th that if we hit 2/3 or 1/3 it’s a LV win.
Once we get over the hump this program will take over Women’s College Basketball.
Our time coming.
