Best post of the night!!I'm usually critical in a loss,,,but the fact that we were projected a double-digit loss,,,I am good with this outcome. It's easy to armchair the ending,,,but the whole game we were competitive and in the hunt....ANd even though I'm not a "good try-coach" I have to say,,,helluva game ladies.
I'm not forgetting. I know our women wanted so badly to win this game, and for so many reasons. I hate it for them that they fell short, but dang! I still can't believe we had a shot at beating Texas on the road tonight with some pretty glaring stats issues.Well I'm proud of the showing tonight by the team. The Head Coach wasn't there and team was in foul trouble whole game. Some forget Texas was a double digit favorite and had to pull out the win in last minute. Future is bright at Tennessee..
Horrible? She was 5-8 from the floor and 2-3 from 3 and only one of two in double figures. Guess the rest of them really shouldn't have been on the floor in your opinion. Smart players don't foul out to foul out. The turnover shouldn't have happened in the first place and Spearman wouldn't have been put in that position.Spearman was horrible and should not have been in towards the end if she wasn't gonna try to block Booker's layup fr Sam's turnover.
Plus played at a slower organized pace that some believed this team couldn't do.Agreed. Our defense and rebounding aren’t where they need to be, but we finally put together 4 quarters of pretty dang good basketball on the road against a top 10 team.
Not to mention a conference road game vs a top ten team that was favored heavily by the refs.Well I'm proud of the showing tonight by the team. The Head Coach wasn't there and team was in foul trouble whole game. Some forget Texas was a double digit favorite and had to pull out the win in last minute. Future is bright at Tennessee..
Yeah I thought it was one of Zee's better offensive games up until that last shot. But she should never have been the one taking it; that play was a cluster by us from the get go. TX played great D on it and we got discombobed.Horrible? She was 5-8 from the floor and 2-3 from 3 and only one of two in double figures. Guess the rest of them really shouldn't have been on the floor in your opinion. Smart players don't foul out to foul out. That is the coach's job. They only need a small improvement to get there and they have not been able to do it.We have to find a way to win these games.
Defensively she was and gave up too many offensive boardsHorrible? She was 5-8 from the floor and 2-3 from 3 and only one of two in double figures. Guess the rest of them really shouldn't have been on the floor in your opinion. Smart players don't foul out to foul out. The turnover shouldn't have happened in the first place and Spearman wouldn't have been put in that position.
Yes! The most "normal" I've seen us play, esp on offense. Wouldn't call anything about our defense normal though.Plus played at a slower organized pace that some believed this team couldn't do.
Took what Texas gave us instead of throwing up 35 three points shots.
Just get back and go straight up(verticality), at least make it tougher.Horrible? She was 5-8 from the floor and 2-3 from 3 and only one of two in double figures. Guess the rest of them really shouldn't have been on the floor in your opinion. Smart players don't foul out to foul out. take two stepsThe last HC was let go due to poor recruiting and an inability to close games vs ranked teams.
Under the new staff, recruiting has been fantastic but our issues are still our issues. This team in particular, tops it off with poor FT shooting and rebounding. I know it’s only year one, and CKC doesn’t have a roster full of her players, but this is exhausting.
I’m gonna have to take a step back from being so invested and just hope things change next season.
100% agree!My take:
LVs already had a mental hill to climb without CKC being their coach on the road against Top 10 team. That said, I believe Coach Jenna did a fine job and there’s a reason CKC has kept her on staff. She had a tough row to hoe and she exceeded expectations.
Physically, the LVs don’t have the pieces to match up with Texas bigs. I thought they had a great game plan, but a few-and I mean few- little things by some players here and there were the difference. Mentally, they were gunshy because of the one-sided foul tally. At least one player had the flu. Stuff like that matters in these games.
They did, however, show grit. This was 4th loss, with 3/4 coming against Top 10 teams, by a total of 8 points, and was on the road in prime time with first year substitute coach.
You think about who’s coming in next year and the ones who will still be here. I don’t see a reason for anything besides optimism with that.
They had to deal with all of these things and dang near pulled off another Top 10 road win.
It’s a long season and I fully expect them to keep pounding. Eventually they’ll break through. I’m awfully proud of them!!
