Okay, I know making big extrapolations from an opening game, against an overmatched opponent, is Fool's gold but dang it's so nice and shiny:
Marta is going to be the next Sabrina Ionescu (barring injuries etc). It will be maybe 2 seasns until she plays at that game changing elite level consistently but she has the X factor-- great skill set, very smart with the ball, has a feel for the game and good enough athleticism. I think her lateral quickness will need some work but she has good physicality.
Jordan Walker looked GOOD!
And Destiny Salary showed some nice skills and great athleticism
A bit surprised that two key (no pun intended) from last season have been pushed down the rotation-- Tamari and Jordan H. Key looked pretty good in her minutes but maybe there is some conditioning issue in play. I would imagine as the season progresses she will again become the teams main player in the point.
KK played well but we saw last season, she always pretty good against undersized teams but struggled mightily when matched up against size. So, we will have to wait and see if that problem has been solved or not.
Rae is gonna have a great junior year.
Impressed with Rennia-- realizing that she is surrounded by more scoring talent, playing in the flow and hitting the boards.
Overall depth looks much better this season obviously but these early signs are that the new additions may be big upgrades over last year's depth players. I won't name names but I can envision 3 or 4 players who may see get minutes in these early games but won;t feature when the conference games kick in (again barring injuries and covid-19 cases).
After the first quarter, the offensive flowed pretty well (and some lay off rust is to be expected)
Less positive:
I am not crazy about the KK and Tamari combo. Fine for a game like this but would not fare well against better comp.
I am little worried about Jordan Horston. He role on the team is not so clear. I am sure Kellie will figure that out but the way she was used in this game does not look a promising one.
Though Jordan had her struggles today, her lob pass to Key was a thing of beauty
