Game Thread: Memphis v Lady Vols, Wed Dec 18th ; Away game; 8:30 PM Eastern; ESPNews: win 90-75

Just no. If it was more than a cramp or a quick tweak she would never have seen the floor again tonight. I think it just scared her really badly and she over reacted. No way they take the slightest chance with her.
When watching it at first it looked like a thigh bruise, like she hit something when she was falling.

Cooper was forcing her to her left and the second half was to double team and make her give the ball up and make the other team mates beat you ! Both defensive strategies were smart ! She is probably the best guard we’ve seen so far this year
Which is what I just said lol. No guard the LVs have played this year has come close to breaking our press the way she did. Memphis had what, 5 t.o.s the first half? Didn't Iowa have 30 t.os? Hageman laid out a blueprint for future opponents tonight.

No surprise. We knew much, much better competition was coming. Good that we presevered.

I mostly agree, but also if we hadn’t missed so many dang layups we would’ve had more opportunities to press than we did.

A partial tear, maybe. I worked on my feet for months with a torn meniscus and partially torn MCL. It only hurt when it became inflamed and I was able to keep going with a compression sleeve.
I don’t think if there was any chance of a partial tear she would have been back on the court. Hope I’m right but maybe a partial tear is not easy to determine.

The game reminded me that we may not have the big turnover margins against the athletic SEC teams just like the Iowa game reminded me that we may not always have the rebound margin against bigger teams that box out well. We need at least the advantage in turnovers or rebounds given we typically aren't a good shooting team. We tend to miss several layups and have only had a few games where we shot threes over 33%. This doesn't mean we aren't good and won't be competitive, but we will need to continue to improve to stay in the hunt for a top 16 seed for the NCAAs. I also think our coach and system will generally help make up for some of our talent gap with the best teams. I do expect that with the way we are recruiting high school and transfer players that we will quickly make up the talent gap in the near future. For now, it is fun watching our program start, dare I say, a Renaissance.

I agree. We can’t afford this

Jewel Spear was the best player on the court tonight and is still recovering.
Her jumper was so pure in this game.
I say let her fully heal if need be and there’s no team Tennessee can’t beat.
The Lady Vols will go 2-0 in the upcoming Fort Myers tourney.

Actually we are in West Palm Beach and Jewel Spear was probably not high on the scout tonight due to sitting out her last game.

I think that is part of the plan?
Yes.

The people saying otherwise simply don't have a clue what they are talking about. The volume helps make up for when you don't shoot well. But we aren't looking for volume instead of shooting well and taking good shots. It is in addition to.

From what I have seen, this team takes no more bad shots than last year's team. In fact, I just checked while writing this and we are exactly 0.3 percent better on both twos and threes this year, which is as close to identical as you are likely to see.

18 points & 12 rebounds from Double Double Zee!

I laugh every time people talk about SEC post vs Tennessee.

Zee been doing this since freshman year on the big stage. It’s only up from here.

shot selection wasn't my biggest concern,,,missed bunnies IS

This game will make us so much better. A team that played our game/style and honestly alot of that game played it better than us. They had the athletes and talent to keep up.

However the intangibles won us that game, our conditioning showed as a strength at the end, halftime adjustments were good. Honestly we would have pulled away if we made our bunnies and the Refs didn't keep Memphis in it.

The game was physical and felt chippy. I just think and feel like there was so many things in this game that will make us better.

The biggest difference I notice from last year to this team, is that Coach Kim has really instilled a confidence in these girls. Tess is playing really well despite here athletic limitations. I just hope Puckett can get out of her slump she seems to be only player not having the confidence.
