Game Thread: Samford v Lady Vols, Tues Nov 5th; Home-FCC; 6:30PM; SEC+ network:,,, Win 101-53

Puckett was a no show tonight scoring wise and we still scored 101. This bodes well moving forward in my opinion. Sara is going to get hers no doubt, but if Sara had gone scoreless in years past , it’s most likely a loss. She’s a leader and I’m excited to see her thrive in Coach Kim’s system.
Wonderful point

Strickland and Puckett both went 0 for 4 from 3, most of those wide open.

Spearman was superb in the 2nd half. Great hands and a nice touch around the rim. Spearman, Spencer, Whitehorn, and Cooper are 4 athletic, talented players. Who is the fifth to join them?

Did you watch the game? Spear shot the cover off the ball! Like what I saw from Alyssa Latham and Kaniya Boyd as well. Those players along with Spearman, Whitehorn, Cooper, and Spencer are all looking good enough to compete at a high level.

My first time watching, didn't really see the CN game.

Gotta start w defense, wow, relentless and dogged. The defensive effort is mind blowing. Somewhere Pat is smiling. Doesn't always mean it will be successful against better talent, but they'll by God die trying.

Spearman is impressive, huge upside. The mystery of Jill continues. I also thought Latham would be more of a factor.

Nice to see Jewel scoring. One of either her or Sara has to be hitting 3s for us to succeed. Sara couldn't throw it in the ocean tonight but her presence on court still feels important.

Coop and Ruby are obviously the athletic jewels. Right now one or both is overpowering far inferior talent on offense. Will that continue in stonger comp?

Sure hope Spencer's ok, I really like her presence. Destinee Wells please call home. Subbing like a wild women and DW only gets 1 min?

No one asked me, but I still don't like this "style". I don't find it overly exciting, just overly chaotic. I get that ugly is what we're trying to do on D, but there's SO much rolling on the floor, fouls, turnovers (57 of em!). I like smooth and pretty bball. Hopefully the offense smooths out a bit.

I also hate the subbing, but I've always hated the subbing in the non conf cupcake sched. Looks like it might shake down to Spencer, Cooper, Ruby, Spearman, Jewel, and Sara as a core, w Boyd getting significant mins too.

Sadly, the crowd was dismal. Interested to see the "official" tally.

Right, it all went downhill after that. This was going to be a sloppy game. Kim has said as much. This “style” was waaaay more exciting then what we’ve been seeing for the last , well, let’s be honest , 10 years. I see The vision. It might have been Samford and we don’t know how it’s going to match up with a FSU, Or Iowa for example, but I like It. We will wear you down. Plain and Simple. I know GLV thinks we are Arkansas 2.0, yet it’s literally nothing like what Neighbors runs

Nah, it's just my opinion and I'm obviously old fashioned. I just enjoy very good half court offense, passing, cutting, high % shooting and low t.o.s. I understand that isn't the current fad. I also really dislike floor rolling, etc. I understand disruptive isn't gonna look pretty, but I still prefer watching smooth n pretty. Can't I have a style opinion?

Lady Vols crush the record of 20 steals by getting 27

Good effort and performance that bodes well going forward.

But the all-time record for team steals in a game is 38 vs Hawaiian Pacific (12/20/85).

Individual: 11, Michelle Marciniak vs Kentucky (1/14/96)
Individual Season: 141, Holly Warlick (1978-79)
Team Season: 567 (1978-79 and 1997-98)

You can , and I get your point on rolling on the floor, but I really like the hustle, it seems we haven’t been diving on the floor up 40 points, for years . We seem to press till the last minutes and that’s a relief for once.

All the pretty offense you mention is going to be UConn, and yes, it’s nice to watch, and I hope We have a style which matches and disrupts it. Thank goodness that match up is in February. 🙃

Hawaii Pacific has never been a D1 school so I'm guessing that game doesn't count for the record books.

Confession, I do love Geno's offense. One of my most painful sports memories is when he started beating Pat's overplaying D in the early 2000s and turned the tide for them against us. Backdoored the bejeeze outta us for years and perfected half court offense.

I totally get that CKC would rather saw off a limb than play that way and it's her time and her team. Question is how much they can smooth out the O while continuing the chaos on D.

That 2000 championship game, he literally told his squad to back door us all day long and they did. We never adjusted. Painful memories.

It’ll be a good season, and I look forward to interacting with you on this new and exciting Lady Vols journey. We finally have someone who is no longer connected to Pat, and that’s refreshing.
