Game Thread: Tennessee (14-8, 7-3 SEC) versus Arkansas (17-8, 5-5 SEC) @ Food City Center, 7:00PM (EST), televised by SEC Network

She gets minutes.
Sometimes you need more height in the paint
.I was going matchup on who plays vs different teams.
(Matchups) was word had in mind.
Sometimes Tennessee needs a taller post
Sometimes the coaches play karoline more.
Tonight she didn't get enough minutes

Striplin Key Jillian all play center
Depending on the team playing
Karoline or Jillian gets more minutes.
And sometimes Kellie says
That player was playing good so they rolled with it.

And Karoline and Jillian play Power forward
So does Jackson and Puckett play the four.and both play the three some.

Bottom line minutes change by who they play and the flow of the game.
Karo came in last 2 minutes of 3rd scored 5 and 1 reb with several defensive stops in the paint, did not see the floor again until end of 4th, Darby played almost all of 4th so much for playing performers on the floor, Jillian had a great game and where was Edie, big lead and she never hit the floor, why should any high school player want to play in those conditions. As a side note Karo at 50% Vs Puckett at 46% for the season. Sara has 114 vs 87 Reb for the season .Karo has 393 minutes vs Sara 618. Karo has 206
Pts vs Sara 235 remarkably close with 225 difference in minutes. if Karo had the extra 225 minutes karo numbers would have been much higher than sara current numbers.

Please explain to me the philosophy behind conceding rebounds. Arkansas concedes rebounds about as often as they try for them. If we were a fast break team, maybe concentrate on getting back. But we're so not. It's so odd to see them just retreat immediately when the shot goes up.
Talking about Arkansas, does anyone know whatever happened to Jersey wolfenbarger?

You sound lost or haven't played much basketball in your life. Karo as hard of a worker as she is, is very undersized at the 5 spot in the SEC and has scored most of her points against mid major teams. Look at her numbers in the SEC and look at the difference. Then take in to account the points she gives up defensively against SEC sized posts not to mention ever other player that gets to the rim undeterred. The math doesn't work out. Teams get downhill on us when she starts and plays often, get to the rim regularly because there's no post presence or rim protector there to deter them from getting to the paint. It builds our opponent's confidence and it makes for an ugly game. There's more to the game of basketball then a shooting percentage and scoring points. At the post position you also have to defend the paint.

Let's get thru Thursday with some dignity left intact and not too tired or injured. The game at Vandy Sunday is huge.

Murder's row of games to finish the season with. Much better intensity tonight than against Bama and they better keep bringing it. If Jillian has turned a corner, that development would be a huge asset.

As I see it, Vandy and Texas A&M are must win games; LSU is a need to win game and not getting pulverized into dust and then further dissolved into subatomic particulars then cast into a black hole is the goal against Dawn's death star.

So, 3-2 with maybe one surprisingly close game against SC at home would be a very, very respectable way to finish the regular season.

Saw Tess swat and deflect the ball numerous times on one defensive sequence. More of that Sister!
Her minutes went UP?!?!?…after that Alabama game… is beyond me…
All I can say is, poor Tess. It's just a huge struggle for her right now in every department. When she was "guarding" one on one you could practically see them licking their chops and clearing out for whoever she was chasing. I think she only got extended mins bc it was a blowout.
Nothing suggests more aptly the fact that a team will be a big underdog in its next game quite like "let's try to get through it with our dignity still intact." Get out there, kids--and above all maintain your dignity!
LOL it's like the old story of your friend fixing you up with a blind date and being told "but she has a great personality". Unfortunately, it's where we are w So Car, but hey, if the gal is actually cute it's a bonus.

3-2 would be epic, but 2-3 is more likely and would be ok. The Vandy game is huge and they'll be ready. However, as I recall, they were another team totally unequipped to guard Rickea. She had a double double in 3 qtrs. I'm a little less worried about TAM at home on Sr night, but that's a must as well.

Then stay somewhat respectable against the Death Star and close with Team Tacky. An upset against the Tackys would be great but I don't really expect it. A 2-3 finish might not even get us the first day bye in the SEC tourney, but 5th seed and the extra game may not be all that bad.

Enjoyable game. Interesting that all our SEC wins have been by at least 9 points, but when we lose we really play poorly. So happy for Jillian. Kellie said that she has been putting together some good practices so hopefully it can carry over the rest of the year. Decent defense for the most part. We really needed a game like this before the hardest part of our schedule starts.
Shows the parity among teams log jammed for 3rd to last.

We should've been a zone team all year at least a match up zone team. We just can't guard in the man to man and were lucky that Arkansas couldn't throw one in the ocean last night. They kept getting the open looks you want and well air ball, clanging off the back rim, and short was the story for them all night. They also have to be the poorest rebounding team in the SEC as we outrebounded them by 27. An average shooting night for us 42 percent was still enough to win going away by 26. Probably should take a jump in the net today as we beat the spread by a lot in this game.

Going to be an interesting tourney, at least for who comes in second.

Kellie was asked about the log jam last night, and how this team beats that one but loses badly to another. She said it's all about matchups.
Other than LSU and Sc who both have a starting five very hard to matchup with we should have the personnel to match up correctly with anyone else. Still too many bad decisions and quick shots. 16 turnovers were mostly bad decisions not anything Arkansas was doing.

Love Karo, but I'm not sure Puckett and Darby have really anything to do with her minutes. Harper does not play Karo at the same position as the other 2 and Karo's minutes have really taken a dive as TK has emerged as healthy and capable. Then tonight Jill stepped up (🙌🏻🙌🏻) so she got more time than she had been lately. Only so many minutes to go around.

There seems to be a suggestion here that Karo is buried on the bench and not getting a fair chance and stepping back and looking at her time at UT, I just don't see that...at all...unless the argument is that she's being played out of position and should be playing the 3/stretch 4 rather than the 5, but with this thin-in-the post roster...I don't see it.

Yes I have played basketball and Karo does not need to exclusively the 5 spot. She can play 3 or 4 spots. Her defense is definitely better than some getting a lot more minutes at 3 or 4. Guess we are watching games from a different view. When someone is not performing why continue to play them in that game.

Karo is listed on the roster as a F, don’t think that is exclusive to the 5 (center) .

I agree with this post. Karo has gotten lots of minutes and started most of last season. If she’s a team player this shouldn’t be bothering her.

Whoever is producing should play and I’m glad to finally see the coaching staff doing that instead of trying some sort of paint by numbers sub pattern.

Karo is definitely not a 5 in the SEC so it is very commendable she has played that position so much the last two seasons.

You cannot deny her production has been paltry at best since SEC play started. She has not had more than 4 boards in a game and has only score more than 5 once I believe. Sharp drop off from someone who was averaging around 16 against our mid-major non-con opponents.

I'd add TAMU to that list. Their starting 5 is probably the third best (behind LSU and SC) in terms of balanced scoring, skill, athleticism and size. Don't think they have much help coming off the bench though.
