Game Thread: Tennessee (15-8, 8-3 SEC) versus No. 1 South Carolina (23-0, 10-0) @ Food City Center, 2/15, 7:00 PM (EST), ESPN

seasons been over for a while now, one win in tournament max if they get in....need to gut the program. seemed like a bunch of laziness last night...rebounds??? oh wait just let the other team get them. really poor team
Laziness??? After that game??? I disagree. I know some people are beyond frustrated with this team...poor shooting, sure, lack of depth sure, but to watch Powell, Kea, Puckett last night and come up with lazy...I saw nothing but effort that was so maxed out that it completely exhausted them by the 4th...but I guess that's just me

The reffing to me definitely took some wind out of their sails (and the crowds), imo. Don’t think reffing explains everything in this loss, but I remember thinking a string of calls in the third was probably the beginning of the unraveling.
Officiating can be questioned in every game by both teams.

But the officiating wasn't the reason Spear having not one bucket.

Robin didn't show up and Batman ran out of gas.

Jasmine Powell is a fighter and a great teammate.
Though she is sort of a loose cannon on Offensive end of court. Last night Puckett was wide open behind 3 point line and Powell went into Captain America mode trying to do it by herself.
Sara was shooting well, and this was the second game I’ve watched recently where they’ve failed to capitalize on that.

It was definitely one official in particular that made it their duty to give every favorable and 50/50 call to SC.

They literally called a foul on TK for deflecting a pass behind the post player… while allowing Watkins and Fulwiley to run through Jasmine Powell and Rickea Jackson for steals that ultimately gave SC the momentum in a close game.

Those calls never would’ve went against SC in that situation. It destroys the integrity of the sport when officials blatantly make calls that favor a team. It looked rigged last night by this particular official.

They called that game like they were a fan of SC.
Personal Fouls
South Carolina 17
Tennessee 15

Tell me again how the refs somehow wronged Tennessee

It's no wonder our players ran out of gas in the 4th quarter. I sit on the baseline and was amazed how the officials allowed the Lady Cocks to put their bodies on our players on defense all of the time, the entire game. Kellie should have given Tamari a saddle because they were riding and pushing her out of the paint.
Isn’t it amazing how all refs conspire against UT, even in the safe confines of their own home court? Opponents punch and kick them all day and nothing called, but if a LV even glances at an opposing player, the whistle blows!!!

Between Kellie being limited to the purest salt-of-the-earth players due to NIL corruption and the fact her players are unfairly targeted against by refs in every game they play, she’s done SUCH an incredible job. She should get a contract extension today!

This game was similar to the LSU game in that our starters played well enough to match their starters. Actually 48 points to 37. Their strong bench which are all actually starters anywhere were the huge difference and they got 54 minutes. Coach Kellie limited our bench play as much as possible and it took a toll in the fourth quarter. Hopefully this game won't be a setback to the very important game coming up Sunday. We have to win that game. We have to play at the same level we played tonight. Two wins get us in the NCAA cause every conference will get at least six of the power five. In the reveal SEC had 2 teams. ACC 3, Big 12 2 teams. The Pac 12 seemed to be the one most regarded with 5, Big Ten 3 Big East 1

You could look at this and say ACC gets 7 byes and league champion. SEC 6 byes and league champion, Big 12 6 byes and league champion Pac 12 8 byes and league champion Big Ten 7 byes and league champion. That still leaves two which could go to the Big East or another team in the Pac 12 or best remaining power five conference team.

Tennessee gets in if they win at Vanderbilt and one of the next three games. Or two of the three games at home. They need two wins. NCAA is not going to leave out a 10 game conference winning team with the number one strength of schedule in the country. We have to win two however or were in trouble.

36 total at large bids SEC will get a definite six. Maybe seven. Tennessee beating Vanderbilt and Texas A&M will close both of those two teams out. So Sc, LSU are certainly in. Miss St, Ole Miss, are the next two. Tennessee, Bama, Auburn, A&M, and Vanderbilt fighting for the additional two or three. We control our own destiny. A lot of games to be played against each other of those 7 SEC teams looking to get in. Someone will win and someone will lose. At least four of the seven will have 7 SEC losses.

The NCAA uses NET conference rankings to determine at large byes not polls of coaches or writers.

SEC third conference in the NET.

she is slow, matter of fact the team overall is slow

Such astute breakdowns. 🙄

We got some bad calls and we got some good calls. The reffing didn't lose the game. We shot just over 30% from the field and below yay from the three. We made up for that in the first three quarters with a lot of rustle and some physical play. We ran out to steam in the 4th quarter and fouls caught up to them. Our lack of depth showed last night. I applaud the team on its effort and our record would last night would have won most of the games we had lost before last night. Effort was the most positive product from the game last night.

Yep, that was good coaching to take away Spear that's what teams have tried to do with DK on the men's team for the most part it has not worked but it worked perfectly in this game. I think Dawn thought you just can't completely stop Jackson so she went after Spear who had been cresting her game lately but her deficiencies were exploited tonight ,good coaching. That and Dawn has built herself up to the coaching status that refs are respectful/afraid of her like they were with Pat in the day. JMO

We just needed to make three more shots and them miss three more. That is basketball and why we play the games. The talent difference is very noticeable, but we came with a lot of fight. I expect the game at SC won't look near this good.

Pat could just look at the ref with the stare and get calls lol.

I do want to clarify that I don’t have a large problem with the reffing either! It seemed like a mostly fairly called game, and I definitely don’t think it cost us the game. When I saw those fouls as a symptom of unraveling, I more thought they were an early sign that we were getting fatigued. I was very frustrated last night, but not with our players who looked outstanding last night until they were gassed.

In the end their bench dominating our bench was the determining factor. Because even with Spear not scoring our starters outscored their starters 48 to 37. Our bench couldn't come close to doing the job and thus the loss.

Not defending WC but there was a few questionable non calls.

Though in sports if you think officials are going to get every call rite, then you're in Wonderland Alice.
No problem with the officiating except I think Tamari gets ripped more than any player in the league. She gets some of the weakest calls against her game after game of any player. It has really limited her ability to stay aggressive in her play.

Officiating didn't lose the game or cause us to miss open shots (or ignore open teammates), but the way SC was allowed to displace our bigs was insane. SC was allowed to Shaq our players all night long until they got the ball underneath. Key, Hollingshead, and Striplin were fighting hard but kept getting shouldered, hooked, and shoved out of the way. Just bullyball.

I could swear that I saw Cardoso with her elbow up in Karoline's throat when Karo was bodied up trying desperately to hold her position as is her right (according to these things called "rules"). Despite all that, our girls battled on the boards and boxed out well until they were just physically worn out.

Sour 🍇 or accurate observations?

I only ask you then…..why don’t we have a coach that can recruit and have us loaded with talent. Oh….we have fans that are happy when we just keep it close. I just need to lower my expectations like most of you have. How far have we fallen?????
I think you are misreading some of the posters comments. Most of us know we are short on talent and are disappointed that we have not been able to sign some of out targets. However, we have been ablate improve our talent level through the portal to the degree that we can still play with most of the top t3ams in the SEC. The injury to Jackson hurt us early in the season and I don't think she is yet fully recovered. Key's medical condition has been a major problem and is still a work in progress. We have one top ranked player coming in, but we need a couple more to become more competitive. None of this means we are happy with the current talent level of the tam or the effort that they have shown in some games this year. however, some of us are willing to praise effort when we see it. Negative attitudes never produce success, but continued effort can produce improvement.

that is the crux of the biscuit
Dawn goes to the bench and has 3 MCDAA's
She went to the bench in Q1 and they actually got better

Not sure if anyone caught it…Key was posting up for position. South Carolina player let Key get position with her body/weight going back by the basket. The SC player moves back out of the way and done goes Key.

Speaking of benchplay. Where has Striplin gone after having a massive game she has gone MIA.

Darby looked to be more worried about the officiating than playing basketball ball.
