Game Thread: Tulsa v Lady Vols, Sat Dec 21st ; West Palm Beach Classic; 11AM Eastern; BallerTV:

Not going to beat on the Refs to much, but those running charges are getting ridiculous. Now it appears that players can just run in your path and cut you off and it is a charge. I saw four today that were not charges totally should've been blocks and they were all called on us. Players moving into you and leading with their chest does not make it a charge just not smarts calls.

Those plays are how players get hurt. That’s the entire reason you have to be in legal guarding position or set.

This is silly. Her effort made her SEC player of the week last week.

You can’t take that other poster serious.
Imagine this type of baseless analysis against a player averaging 19.8 ppg, 4.1 assists, 6.1 rebs, and 3.4 steals shooting over 50% in just over 20 minutes a game.
This isn’t the first time this poster has gone out of their way to discredit one of the best players in WBB/SEC.
If Coop was on another team right now they would be posting over and over again that the UT coaches need to bring her in from the transfer portal I’m 1000% certain.
This is comical at this point.

Will Rice replace Kesling as "The Voice Of The Vols?"
I do not think so, I think either Mike Keith or John Wilkerson both are great choices. I love to listen to Wilkerson do Baseball he's awesome. Mike Keith is with the Titans so not sure how he would navigate that.

I just know that UConn and SC both played in 5-6 classic/pre season tourney games all with some level of reputable television.

I understand this was a season where we want to gel and implement the system but playing in a D2 gym without TV access is a big L for the program in an otherwise uplifting season thus far

South Carolina played in the same Ft. Myers event that we did last year and two neutral site games that were put on by the TV networks themselves. You have to be invited to those, Tennessee played in the Champions Classic (put on by Fox) in Brooklyn this year and will return there next year. UT has also already signed for a made-for-TV neutral site game next year to open the season. As UT's profile grows, they'll have even more of those.

This event had already been agreed to with a contract signed last year after a scheduled Thanksgiving event elsewhere folded. Hate to keep repeating myself, but most of the non-conference schedule, including these multi-team events, are set 2-3 years out. Teams agree to play in them before TV is sold, the networks bid on them individually since they're not part of conference contracts. The services like Flo and Baller buy them up because ESPN and Fox don't want to pay a fee, then have to hire a production truck when they can just pick up on-campus events that they already hold rights for and have production centers built into the campuses. This one had three ranked teams in it, so venue aside, it's a high-level event.

Are offensive rebounds more important than defensive rebounds?
Lucy darlin, that depends on the situation.....Think of every possession as a major event in the life of the game.....Offensive rebounds often result in another shot at the elusive hoop, which increase your chance of victory.....A defensive rebound chokes the life out of your opponent, limiting their chance to defeat you....

Are offensive rebounds more important than defensive rebounds?
It seems like both would have equal importance, doesn't it?

All my career we were coached that the person furthest back on offense, when a shot is taken, has primary responsibility to drop back and prevent a fast break attempt off the defensive rebound or quick inbound.

CKC believes that offensive rebounds are so important that every possession she sends all five offensive players to crash the boards, freely admitting that occasionally the other team is gonna get an easy 2 out of that--but she insists it's worth it over the course of the game. I think that is the single most amazing--and gutsy--aspect of her system!

Looking at the difference in 2nd chance points tonight... I'd say they were critical to the win. In no other stat categories were we anywhere close to 20 points better than Richmond.

[bench scoring doesn't count, as we have two starting units]

It's a full-time job, so Mike wouldn't be able to do both and I don't envision him taking a significant pay cut to leave the Titans. It's likely to be Neil Price from Mississippi State. A Morristown native that was mentored by Bob Kesling before taking over at MSU a few years ago.

Will Rice replace Kesling as "The Voice Of The Vols?"
Knowing Danny White as we do...
he's probably reviewing tapes right now of some innovative announcer in Sheep Junction, Wyoming who's figured out a way to send the updated stats to listeners telepathically, while calling the play-by-play.

Well, every dRB is an opp. oRB denied, so in a limited sense, they're the same.

But when you get into the nuance, I supose an offensiv rebound is the harder of the two.

I guess what REALLY matters is: ar you getting second-chance points off your oRBs? If your boards are low-quality, far from the basket, resulting in no more than a reset, then you're worse off than a team that gets fewer oRBs, but cashes in on the ones they get.

This is an absolutely insane take. Cooper is the best player on the floor by a mile and constantly shows great effort.

Coop has been outstanding but I don’t see it this way.
As wonderful as Coop has been, her teammates have been just as impressive. Not by a mile.
Samara Spencer has been great.
Ruby Whitehorn, Lazaria Spearman, and Jewel Spear can go for 15-20 any night.
The depth is outstanding with Latham and Boyd as young players showing promise while veterans Darby and Hollingshead are playing some of their best basketball.
This is a complete team. 35-3 bench points against a solid opponent with another 90+ game performance.

But remember, she's always said the key to her system is getting more shots than her opponents.

That's impossible to do with defensive rebounds, no matter how many you collect.

Don’t know if you’ve been watching classic/pre-season tourneys closely since nearly every event involving ranked teams across WBB in big or small venues have had very sparse crowds including some games at these events you believe received better deals to appear on TV.
This was far from a L, can’t spin it that way at all.
For one, the size of the venue is irrelevant but if I recall the ND vs TCU game was played in a venue nearly identical in size.
The undoubtedly plus to today was Tennessee had a solid group of faith fans in attendance that traveled to this tourney.
Winning against a formidable opponent with fans in the stands is a win win without question.
Second, the Women’s Champions Classic was played in front of 10,000 where UT defeated Iowa and was broadcasted on Fox.
Tennessee has had some national televised games already this season against Florida State, Memphis, and Iowa.
Everything about the start to this season couldn’t have been scripted better.
This is as good as it gets and I’m sure every player and coach is embracing this once in a lifetime experience.
