Game Thread: UT @ Auburn, Sunday; 12PM, ESPN2 win 83-76

Jordan was visibly bothered by the physicality of the game. She was hammered multiple times tonite and it got the best of her no doubt. But she is usually the one calming other players down so what she needed was someone to calm her down. Kellie did that and when she got hyped up Kellie put her on the bench twice.

I don't think her not starting was an issue and don't think that played a factor however i do think she remembered this is a team that beat them last year and she trying to hard.

She was far from perfect but she made a difference in this game and pushed us towards the win more than she hurt.
Excellent, sane post!

That's the problem. That cannot be the measuring stick for your sr leader, eventually helped more than hurt. Espec when the prob is emotionally generated. But she does try to rise above this, hates it more than anyone else I'm sure. just hope we get the good curl Thursday.

I fully agree re Horston's attitude, and how it really hurt the team today. For her to be a senior and still struggle with the mental aspect of the game like she did as a freshman is disappointing. She was given a long leash today. I honestly don't think RJ would ever be able to act like that on the court.

And my intent isn't to pit two teammates (and amazing humans) against each either. It's more so a critique of how Kellie manages players.

It's not attitude guys!
I know more about this kid than most and it is not! a question of attitude
She shoulders more than just playing basketball

People question what I do,,,well this is why I do what I do.
That is why I get to know parents, players, fans, and staff,,,so I can understand what the players may experience,, that most "fans" have no idea about.
Remember "let Manny be Manny" well this is one of those cases,,,"Let Jordan be Jordan"
Sometimes if you know the "why" it makes the "what" easier to handle

Re "spy versus spy",,,we don't want RJ and JH competing against each other,,we want each one of them working to make the other better,,,ala Michael and Scottie

Oh trust me my measuring stick for Jordan is VERY high! She is probably the one i'm hardest on because she's been in this system, she is immensely talented, and like it or not she is our leader. In HS, on her all star and USA teams, and now at TN she hasn't shied away from being the leader of those teams.

Again, i'm not saying she is perfect and I know she could have handled things better. I think she needs to just be present in the moment and allow what she can do to take over.

And JH knows that also, has said over and over needs to quit forcing and let game come to her. But just can't do that consistently. I don't mean to be overly harsh on her, espec bc I know she wants badly to control herself. But after four yrs of watching it in person, it's hard not to get frustrated w her. Espec stuff like not going back on D and leaving the court.

Sophomore slump.

I also think people have an overinflated memory of how well Sara performed as a freshman. She had some big plays and looked pretty comfortable for a freshman, of course the big 3 against Belmont, but actually most of her per-40-minute numbers and advanced stats are improved this year. She's just playing about 5 min less per game than last year, playing behind RJ and also competing for minutes with Marta earlier in the year.

When we got Jackson and Franklin in the portal that has cut into her minutes. Today we needed Powell to play because we were playing a four guard offense and defense.

I am not sure why some here are all of sudden acting as is Jordy has an attitude problem. Something was amiss today that may be related to why she didn't start for the first time in eons. Perhaps something related to illness or fam being here. I do agree that there is still more internal work for her to do so that she can stay in the flow of a game despite some frustrations with herself. This has been the narrative while she has been here, which often fuels her other mistake which is to put too much pressure on herself to carry the team. This has been by far her best year in dealing with these issues but there is still work to be done. I think the fact that she came back and got into the flow in the 2nd half is a sign of growth. It used to be near impossible for her to recover within a game. She has put so much effort and her soul into the LVs so let's not label her issues as an attitude problem. I generally love her attitude and for some reason for a half today she wasn't herself.

We still have players that get outside the team concept sometime during the game. Walker and Horston are the main two that do this the most. Her terrible first half was when she was trying to make to much and making some really terrible decisions with the ball. Some of her and Walker's passes are just bad decisions and they cost us 8 to 10 possessions every game we play. When she takes care of the ball she can be great in the last few games she strays from that much of the game. Decisions certainly not attitude.

I've never thought or meant it's exactly attitude. It's more behavioral. I agree this has been going on her whole career, she wants badly to overcome it, and also is more able to get back in the flow at least some of the game now. That doesn't make it any less frustrating to watch or less harmful in the games it happens in. I haven't watched replay but apparently the announcers called it out today?

whatever the deal is with anyone it is 100% resposibility of head coach to solve ultimately

She isn't going to solve it. Been doing it for four years and were still doing it now and will be doing it next game. To beat SC we will have to overcome turning the ball over 20 times. It is what they do and it is mostly bad decisions instead of a defense forcing them in to it.

Tess and Rickea made 18 of 23 shots that is how we overcame 21 turnovers today. We didn't rebound. We did get to the foul line a lot. It could've been more. Auburn is the fouling team Refs can't call them all.

Horston looks disinterested for sure. And this is her senior day
This is her senior day and she couldn't start cause she was 5.....Five....V....minutes late to breakfast , soooooo petty.
Bet she was thinking "I can't wait to get the hell outta here , yeah! I was thinking bout staying but I'm gone for sure.

If my memory serves me right, Sara was in the starting lineup from the time Rickea got suspended in early December till the LSU game in late Jan.

In the first few games of the season, her minutes were limited for sure. From early December onward, she’s gotten plenty of opportunities.

I could buy this if she hadn't had the same look and performance at Miss St and about seven other games this season. She just sometimes comes out and thinks she should do things by herself out of the team concept. This isn't the first time this has happened won't be the last. If she was trying to throw the game she wouldn't have finally settled into the game plan in the third and fourth quarter and helped us win the game.
