Game Thread UT "Lady Vols" v UCF "Knights"

I honestly don't blame Rickea not looking happy. You basically play me in garbage minutes when she is a superstar. I don't know what's going on with her and Kellie but it certainly needs to be straightened out. Rickea cheered for her teammates while on the bench so we know she is definitely rooting for the team. At the same time she is an All American that's sitting on the bench and all Kellie can say is it's not outside of basketball so what is it? I just know we definitely need Rickea to make a strong push on the tournament and even have a chance to go to the tournament. I sure hope they figure this out sooner rather than later

Then it should be fair to point out that it's sad that this topic should be "discussed" (AKA speculated about in the absence of facts) on a night when we won by 35 points and got valuable experience to our bench, seeing a lot of growth.

You'd think that the oft-discussed "turnover" topic would be a central point to celebrate tonight. Only six turnovers and 22 assists!

Six turnovers. Just six.

Great job, staff and players!

Prior games - Fixing the turnover IS THE MOST IMPORTANT ISSUE and the ULTIMATE TEST OF A GOOD COACH SO this means (RANT, RANT, RANT, RANT, RANT......)

Two games with under 10 TOs. CRICKETS................

Fun to see Justine starting to adjust and play with more comfort and confidence. She has RANGE!!!! Showed a little mid range game to and her height makes her able to pass over most defenders. And she is hitting the boards with more authority.

She has a bit of the baby foal quality that Burrell had as a freshman and that will take some time in the weight room but if stays within her game, she is going to contribute this season.

Sara Bucketts finding her shot is also a big plus. Love how Jordan carried the load when everyone else was off to a slow start.

Like everyone else, I am hoping this situation with Rickea gets resolved in a positive like now.

Justine popped a couple 15 footers like she was born to do it....In fact, I believe she was.

Think the light came on for Justine!!! On a side note, Kellie looks tired..

Kellie doesn't have to tell us anything..

Memo my friend, Justine is not just standing on the side waiting for a pass anymore, but she is actually working the court trying to pick up a pass to shoot, or assist another Lady Vol player....

Also, several times the ball was kicked out to her for her deadly 3 ball....I believe she is the missing piece to us having a memorable season.....As she gets more use to the college game, the Lady Vols will become even more competitive...

Even though the game was against UCF, I thought all our players showed what they are capable of doing. Great to see. I also liked our offensive game much better. Looking more like team play. I admit that last year I got tired of the constant driving to the basket and taking wild scoop shots. This year seeing more ball movement and taking jump 8-12’ jump shots and more driving to the basket when the lane is clear.
I will leave the Rickea situation up to coach. My gut tells me we will be seeing a lot more of her starting in our next game but Coach was reminding her that she is still on a short leash by holding her out the first half. We don’t know the situation so we need to trust Coach to do what is best for the team including Rickea.

I seem to remember Pat and Abby Conklin butting heads pretty much continuously. Think Abby was thrown out of numerous practices.
K and R will work this out. Two Alphas for sure!
Nothing to work out. Coach > Player

She's playing in the house of Summitt, where Gordon, Holdsclaw, Parker, Catchings all came before here and laid the foundation. She's no superstar....solid for sure. But superstars don't get suspended.

Nope never happens
Mercury’s Diana Taurasi suspended one game

Lets keep it college
Kentucky star Rhyne Howard suspended for two games

see above post...you must be fun to be around,,,argue argue argue...lose lose lose

Kentucky Womens basketball hanging banners? Go back to house of Summitt stance and the brand Jackson plays for now and the names I mentioned as being "superstars" that came before her. Trying to figure out where the lose, lose, lose....you got sideways and took a detour with WNBA.

Did Parker not get suspended for the first half of her homecoming game in the Chicago area? Been a while. Does it really matter if you are dressed out or not if you are not allowed on the court?

Good call. Yes she did against DePaul for being late for curfew.

"I apologized to my teammates, my coaches, my family and friends and Chicago in general for not being able to play in the first half," Parker said. "Coach is very strict on discipline and I broke the rules so I suffered the consequences."

Coach Harper appears to be taking the high road and reducing drama by not going into details. While we can still only speculate, we've been given enough info now to know this is obviously an attitude problem. Jackson may be progressing, but it might be "two steps forward, one step back." We have no idea what all might be going on, and some of it might not be pretty. We have to trust the coach here, that she's doing what's best for the team and for Jackson. How this all plays out is anybody's guess, but I'd say the ball is 100% in Jackson's court. She's a talented player with a bright future ahead -IF...

And that is the point. RJ has become a major distraction. The distraction needs to be resolved. Until then expect attention to continue being diverted from the team to RJ.
I agree with this… to some peoples protest there is no getting around it.. she’s such an impact player that there is no way to sugar coat it. Hopefully coach can reign her in and find a way to show her that changing her attitude is better for her and the team over the long haul.

Assuming it's an attitude issue, and she was being sat as punishment, she isn't going to get back in the start lineup over night. She's going to have to earn that right back. Sit on the bench and be a good teammate. Play whenever coach puts you in and don't complain. Show up to practice on time or even early. She's going to have to earn the trust of her teammates and coaches back, and that doesn't happen. Over night.

I stand with Coach, she knew what she was getting from Mississippi State when she welcomed RJ into the locker room. I will continue to trust she will do what is necessary for her to keep control of HER locker room and this situation with RJ. I have family who are huge Mississippi State fans and they warned me about the antics of RJ while she was at State. While being a game changing talent, unfortunately that game changing ability for her can go both ways. If you can’t play team ball and keep your teammates in your good graces, it’s going to be hard to see anything positive transition to the whole teams play together on the court.

Why does the team come out unfocused? Why does player after player and Coach Kellie have to say post game as she says gently(sarcasm or not) tell them they shouldn't be guarding the 3 line so bad or not rebound as they should. Regardless of an excellent 2nd half the last 2 games, why not come out just as focused from the start. I am ok if the LV lose, but why not always show full effort from the tip? I just don't understand that mindset. It's hard to comprehend for me. It's like some of the players don't really give full effort and need a talking from Coach Kellie to reinforce the game takes 40 minutes. The quotes don't match in what the players keep saying each possession matters. Prove it from the start, not after halftime.

...Prove it from the start, not after halftime.

Good point. On the flip side, a really great coach has a tendency to motivate their team at halftime to turn things around. That is something Pat Summit was excellent at, and I think Coach Harper is also good at (much of the time). Holly Warlick seemed to struggle with this during her time as head coach.
