Gary Parrish's take on BP and Tennessee

SEC COY twice.
National COY once (IIRC)
First coach in the history of the school to get to the Elite 8.
Lost by one point to miss Final Four.
Took us to the only #1 ranking I can remember in my 35 years.

I just don't get the constant degrading of BP's record at UT...he's the only coach in the history of the program who took us to an Elite 8 and had us 1 point away from a Final Four.

He's served his time. It's time to bring him back and let him right the ship that all but sank in his absence.

You miss the point

I just do not believe that whether CBP lands at UT or somewhere else that he will get anywhere near 2.5 mill. If I am wrong I will take my lumps.

This all day. In fact if he is offered over 2 I would be shocked.

With all the HT Hackney stock he has likely piled up, 1.5 and a dozen tacos might do the trick.

No, I got it.

Greg Marshall > BP.

But the point was best HC available...

That implies that Marshall is openly shopping himself to other colleges. Marshall has publicly stated that Wichita State could be a destination job for him...

That very well may be.

I'm basing it off people saying he's gonna have 10+ schools chasing him, and that he's a top 5 coach.

If in reality BC is the best school interested in him, he likely won't see 1.5

He's also publicly stated that if the right job comes open he would be interested and it wouldn't have to be a raise.

Think Clemson would offer 2mill +?

Cause if $$$ is main factor for him, I think they might be the most likely candidate.

edit: you post too quick, you kinda answered in your next post. lol

John Wooden.

See what I did there? I threw out a name of a coach with a better resume than both Pearl and Marshall combined, yet was not mentioned in any of my posts before now...just like yours.

Marshall and Howland are both realistic candidates, Wooden...not so much.

Start listening around the 23 minute mark. Gary makes a really good point that when we had to hire a basketball coach after BP was gone, the absolute best we could do was a Missouri Valley coach who had never made the dance. So basically, that's what we're faced with now if we get rid of Cuonzo. His point is, you have BP right there and available as a proven winner... no brainer, you hire him. He also makes an interesting point in comparing Louisville re-hiring Petrino to re-hiring BP.

Gary Parrish interview

Pearl is the man. We were nothing BP ( before Pearl) and we have been less than average since he left. Bring BP back- warts and all. Please.

Man I hope we don't go after Howland (if Martin is not retained). Howland's teams played boring basketball. With the talent he had they consistently struggled offensively. Plus, it seems he lost control of the program at UCLA and they began to fall apart and have not yet recovered. I think Howland would be a questionable hire. Of course, I'm hoping Pearl comes back so what do I know about questionable hires.

I'd hate going to a Final Four :)

His "boring" basketball got UCLA to the Final Four three times.

While I am not sure that I would be going crazy with the hire, Howland has been a heck of a recruiter. UCLA has indeed recovered as they are 21-6 and in 2nd in the Pac 12. Their top 3 scorers were all recruited by Howland. He just lost control of some players, and there is also the story about him pulling a late offer to a Cali player, which lost him credibility among the local HS coaches. It would be an upgrade for sure.

I don't why I keep reading all these posts. We are really at the mercy of Hart on this. But I do have an opinion why we should hire Butch back.
I'm 40 so I only go back as far as Devoe, but for too many years to count, I watched Tennessee BB only out of devotion and loyalty. Mostly expecting loses and disappointment, but still hoping for the best.
One Saturday in year one of Bruce's tenure, we went down to Austin and lit up Texas. From that moment on, I got that feeling that Vol fans only experience on Saturdays in the fall (especially in the 90s). That feeling, that on game day, no matter who we were playing, we were fixing to kick somebody's ass.
It's Bruce and his teams that got me thru the lean times in the football program. That's why I love Bruce and that's why I want him back.
