Geno called out on Parker

I hope our team gels this year and avoids any further injury, because nothing would satisfy me more than Holly whooping Geno and Conn's a** this year in the tournament with Candace watching!!!

From a NBA.com interview with Auriemma -

"And then all of a sudden, one guy is highlighted. And then, it's seamless. And then another guy is highlighted. And then it's seamless. But one guy doesn't step out there and do his thing, and to hell with the other guys. And I think that's what great basketball should be like."

Once again Auriemma tells us why there is no Parker on Team USA. This is probably the umteenth similar quote I have read from him.
If you remember Parker was selected for the team in 2012 and was a starter - despite Auriemma's supposed hatred for all things orange:thumbsup: . For whatever reason Auriemma took her out of the starting lineup. When he did put her in the game, she took over. It was all about Parker and she scored a zillion points. I think that really pissed him off and he felt that she was deliberately dissing him by not playing the type of game he wanted.

That does not describe her at all. It was never "all about Parker." She did exactly what he wanted. Again, can you give a specific example of her being a me-first player or putting herself above the team? Lies, lies, and more lies.

The fact remains that she belonged and deserved to be on the team and Geno kept her off for vindictive reasons. Answer this for me, if she went to UConn do you think she would have been on the team?

I can answer that for you.....HE** YES!!!!

Geno is a "me first" coach. It's why guys like linkster and brassie bust their buns trying to make it look like Candace is the problem.

Totally not true. I hope you can find the game tapes & watch them. Or just watch the Sparks, watch old Lady Vols games with her in them. She will take over when asked to take over, but that is not her regular game. As many here have pointed out, how is it all about her with the number of assists she has? CP does her job and she plays team ball. Watch her.

The hilarious thing is that brassie and linkster are arguing against each other...linster's been saying for weeks there is no evidence geno didn't want Parker on the team and brassie keeps posting junk he thinks proves geno kept her off the team. It's a great Abbott and Costello routine (if you know who they are by chance).

Funny we have a team-first superstar with no history of clashing with coaches in college or pros, or even the 2008 Olympic coach. On the other hand we have a coach with a long history of petty, spiteful, vindictive behavior toward opposing coaches/players (not just Tennessee). Draw your own conclusions....

100% agree. I don't even watch because of the piece of **** that coaches this team.

I watched about 2 minutes of the game vs China.

then had to go wash the geno stink out of my eyes.

If your not watching USA basketball you are missing the best team in Olympic history. And shame on you for not supporting Tamika who looks like she is having a blast. I believe Candace will be on the next team and Sue, Diana and Tamika will not. I hope to see DD make the team and will support them with or without any UCONN players. Even DD praises Geno, some of you should take a lesson from her.

If Pat was still alive and coaching USA I would support her 100%. Looking petty and un-American is noticed by the recruits and t,heir families.

Let's get back to respecting each other.

Recruits and their families?????...wth does any of this have to do with them. Just because one or two message board posters say they're not going to watch the Olympics, you think recruits and their families will take that into account when choosing to play basketball for UT??? You Conn trolls are ridiculous!

One thing I do hope recruits and their families realize is how big of an A** Geno is for leaving Parker off the Olympic team. Why play for a MAN that can't own up to his vindictive decision to keep a WOMAN off an Olympic team that deserved to be there????

These UConn fans/trolls can dish it out but they can't take it. it's not by force to watch it's by choice. if some choose to watch it's by choice and if they choose not to watch it's still by choice. i have been saying it so many times if you don't like what we post here then just stop coming here and leave for good. stop coming here trying to dictate what we do or say and stop playing the victim because UConn fans are not innocent. I guess they really thought Tennessee fans were going to sit back and allow them to continue attacking Parker and everything Tennessee without fighting back. GTFO!

Well, of course you would! Pat would never have loaded up Team USA with her own players to the detriment of deserving non-UT players. She wouldn't limit non-UT players to the bench. She wouldn't be the nasty person Geno is. Why would you not cheer her on? (and how I wish we could)

"get back to respecting each other" - I don't know what you are talking about.

The 2012 team was better because it included Candace Parker.

Yes, looks like she's having a blast riding the bench in her last Olympics. Guess Geno has decided she isn't a team player...

Olympic head coach Geno Auriemma knows he doesn't need to placate Catchings, as low-ego an athlete as exists on the planet, but still felt compelled to reach out to the former WNBA MVP.

"Just this morning, I was talking to her about how impressive she's been, because it's not an easy role to be thrust into at this stage of her career," he said. "I think she knew the situation coming in, but still, she's handled it like an unbelievable human being. Forget 'basketball player,' just the unbelievable human being she is.

"Every time I call on her, for those short periods of time, the old Tamika shows up. We talked about it coming out here. I told her 'Look, I don't know how many minutes you're going to get, but they're going to be impactful.'"

Someone asked if Catchings has pushed or politicked for more minutes during a tournament when the U.S. has been typically dominant. Although if you know how Catchings is wired, you know there's absolutely no chance she'd ever do such a thing.

That's what this is all about now for Catchings, who is the oldest player on the team. One more gold medal, one final goodbye. She's been an essential part of the U.S. international effort for years, so while some would argue that Candace Parker was a better choice to make the team than Catchings, there's something to be said for the value of being a great teammate.
