My Lexus v BMW experiences in driving are not even close. The Lexus is like a driving a big marshmallow.
Depends on model a bit, but I do think feel of the ride and driving fun is hands down better in the German rides. Admittedly, I'm biased toward feeling the road.

At this point in my life I can't justify spending on either.

I've got an 03 Explorer with 190K on it and I'm trying to get 60 more out of it before I get a new one.

I have two GM vehicles, therefore, I may be part of the problem. Both are ancient, though. One has nearly 200,000 miles on it and I'll drive it 'til the doors fall off. The mirror "fell" off a few weeks ago, but has since been reattached. Doors are still attached.

I would say model to model competitors (e.g ES vs 5 series; LS vs 7 series, IS vs 3 series, RX vs X5, SC vs Z) the BMW wins everytime in driving feel.

It's all subjective but the potential of a slightly larger repair bill is zero deterrent relative to which car will satisfy me on the road through out the ownership experience.

The best feeling car I have ever driven is my Elise.

Unfortunately, I am getting to the point that it about kills me to drive it and will be selling it next summer and trading it in for either a Boxster or the new SLK. It will be nice to actually have power steering for a change too.

I would buy a BMW but I just think they look like Hondas anymore.

Eitehr of you driven the new Audia A5? What's your thoughts?

Elise - nice. Are your teeth loose?

Haven't driven the SLK but given you are mid-engine now the Boxster is hard to beat. It won't be a sharp but the handling is sublime; a true delight.

Plus, the new Spyder was rated the best handling car in America.

Love the way the A5 looks - best looking coupe out there IMHO.

Have heard it drives nice. I've had A4s and they are great relatively speaking but had a bit of nose plow due to placement of the front wheels. The A5 and now new A4s moved the front wheels further to the front and supposedly this fixed that problem quite a bit.

The first year I had it I was in heaven. The second year I had it I was happy but starting to get pains up my back as I was using it as my daily driver. Now I just look at it and say hm maybe I'll take the Honda today. I am seriously thinking about the new SLK though.

You have quite the porfolio of cars.

Are you married? Reason I ask is because my wife will allow me one car purchase every 3 years that she deams "a waste of money."

clearly not married - no one is stopping me from the car madness... no kids, no wife.

I admit I have a problem and that's the first step. In my defense, I almost always buy used.

As for the portfolio, it's in the 20s over the last 10 years; insane.

I was surprised to find out Audi's come with 4-cyl engines.

Have been since the late 90s. It's a turbo and a good engine. Also very tunable if you are into that kind of thing.

I had a 98 A4 with the 1.5T engine. Other than some turbo lag it had plenty of power for the size and weight of the car; and it was all wheel drive.

Hold up a minute. BMWs and trim is an entirely different debate.

Touche. I can vouch for this.

I modify anyways..

Car I built with a buddy of mine. I had one similar. 1991 Toyota Cressida (Pre-Lexus, Toyota's flagship sedan at the time). That one doesn't look pretty (it does now) and we got it to make 650bhp, lots of other nice bits.

Still, stock for stock, just for pure driving enjoyment, I'd take BMW's above all across the board (I've driven some higher-end Merc AMG's that blow everything else away). I would just rather not own one.

And bham is a proper car owner, I can vouch for this. Not caring about the reliability, only the driving experience = true gearhead

Infinity is the best driving car in the luxury class IMO. I've had limited experience with Beamers but have had the opportunity to drive one on occasion.

Sweet, what kind of top speed do they have? I know that's usually related to the gear ratio but gears can only get so tall.

I wanted an audi R8. I mean wanted it. They had one up at the MAG dealership in Dublin when I lived there and I would drive by their nightly lusting over the damn thing. So one day I drive my wife up there and gave her my best sales pitch. She just laughed. Asked me if I'd gone mad. Told me "if you ever pay more than 75K on a stupid sportscar just so you can look cool and have girls staring at you I will kill you. What are trying to cheat on me? What the hell do you need it for anyways?"

This is how I ended up with the Elise.

Some guy owns two R8's, a Saleen S7, and two Ford GT's here in the Quad Cities.

$125k is excessive for a sports car, but if I'm going to spend that much then it'd be on an R8. The Elise looks like a toy car, IMO.

I'll never buy another American made car after owning a German car.
