Go on Record Here about Butch Jones

I think he's a good coach and believe he will do much better than Dooley. Will he have us competing for SEC titles?? That's my question. Sure, 7-8 wins is much better than the past two but I'm at an age where I was used to a dominant UT team that competed for SEC and NC on a regular basis. That's what UT should strive for, not 7-8 wins. I don't think its fair for anyone to say he will or won't win here. We have 11 months before we know what kinda W/L record he will have. He has my support but he also has a very tough job ahead. Although he was no where on my wishlist, I hope he turns out to be the right guy cause a 5th coach in less than a decade would be unbearable! GBO!!

Doubt we have a top recruiting class in any rating service in those 3 years. Maybe a top 15.

Is that the same thing that was said about Saban coming into the league with his 43-26 record (1 co-championship), or Les Miles with his 28-21 record. How about Muschump with his 0-0 record?

Point is, until he coaches some games, no one knows how he will do here.

The SEC is better now than it was when Saban first got to Bama.

Right now UT is the 5th or 6th best team in the east. Jones has followed success at both of his stops as a HC and left both jobs before he really coached a team he recruited.

Im not saying the guy is Dooley 2.0 but in a time where UT needed a hire where there was not a lot of ?s attached it didnt get it.

next year might not be fun (prob 6-6 at best) but the years after should get UT back to where we like to be.

That's even a bit more optimistic than me. I'm preparing or a 4-5 win season next year, and a bunch of 7-5/8-4 seasons, maybe a 9-3 year. I think we are stuck with him for a while. Never expecting a recruiting class inside the top 15.

Wow, so many posts trashing CBJ before he has coached a game. NO ONE knows what next year
will bring, including some of you so called experts.
Get behind the Big Orange!!!

I hated the Dooley hire from the beginning. He had no record that suggested he was or could be a winning coach. Jones, on the other hand, is a winner. I think he will win at UT. A lot will depend on the staff he puts together. I think the players will really like him, buy into his system and play hard. Tennessee was close to winning several games this season that they lost. I think Jones can and will win many of those games. In time, I think he will be a good coach at Tennessee.,

Dude hasn't been here 72 hours... Let the man assemble a staff and get a recruiting class together and then we'll talk OK? I wasn't thrilled at first with the hire either but good grief.... I'm willing to at least see what kind of assistants and coordinators he is going to hire before I predict what kind of season we're going to have next year. Bottom line is we're tied to Butch Jones for the forseeable future and we have two choices... Piss and moan about it or make the best of it and see what happens. Lots of coaches have started jobs with the fanbase grumbling only to find out that the guy actually could coach.....

We will have our top 15 next year... BOOK IT... and this year's class would be pretty solid if we somehow got Green, Bell and Woulard.

I'm sure this thread will be bumped many times in the future. That's the point. As of Today, December 8th, 2012, one day after the hiring of Butch Jones.. I want your opinion. How do you think we will be with Butch Jones a year from now? two years? three? four.... so on so on?

Personally, I can see Butch Jones struggling in his first year. By year two we will still struggle. Year three will be when he is evaluated. And at the end of year three he will be fired.

What's your opinion?

Another awful thread. You may be the worst thread starter in quite some time.

My prediction:
UT, 4-8 in 2013, struggling to find no-huddle read-option in knoxville
UT, 6-6 in 2014, starting to get better, but SEC wants size not finesse,
UT, 7-5 in 2015 and is let go because the Legion of the Miserable can't stand watching a coach be 17-19 in his first 3 years.

Mattress will burn, Grumors will fly, and Lovie's smith's plane will be in the air, and then we will wake up and still be a bottom tier SEC team.

THANKS MIKE HAMILTON and DAVE HART YOU DID THIS.

You and Sheezy should hook-up. Who knows, a little wine...a little cheese... some quite time...you both may have a brighter outlook on life. :whistling:

Everyone is bashing the guy who started the thread, but it seems like no one is actually willing to put their neck out and predict 10-2 or 11-1 seasons, or SEC Championship appearances, under Jones. If we don't even expect him to GET to the SEC title game, then it was a bad hire.

I think he's at least better than Dooley, so that's a big plus.

However, there are 6 SEC teams in the top 10 nationally this year. I don't think Butch will be good enough to get us to that point. I basically see 7-5/8-4 type seasons.

Also, I talked to a Cincinnati fan today and he said he wasn't upset to see him go. Said he was a better recruiter than Brian Kelly but isn't as good of a coach. Also said he's not an X's and O's type guy and will make many head-scratching calls/decisions.

While he's an upgrade I forsee us just being in the middle of the pack in the conference with several Music City and Chick-fil-a Bowls in our near future.

I lean closer to 7-5 Mizzou territory than 8-4, but I pretty much agree with everything you said.

I understand that part of it, and honestly was not exactly thrilled with the hire. However, after doing a little research on CBJ, I feel that he has earned his shot in the best conference in the land. Bashing or being negative towards him on a message board is not going to change the fact that he's our coach, nor is it going to affect his win/loss record here. Here's to hoping he can do the job we need him to do.

I think he's going to be here a long time. He's seems to really want to be here, has alot of energy and has succeeded at both schools he has led. He's our coach and has my full support.

You can add Richt, Mullen, Franklin to the coaches that came in to the sec with 0-0 records. At least we hired a coach that has won 4 conference championships in 6 seasons. Not bad.
