I'm not going to guess at records, but you'll be able to tell right away if he and his staff can coach. From game 1 after Saban was hired it was obvious they were getting better and better even when they lost. Next year he has a great OL to work with, so maybe we pull an upset or 2 if he can really get them going.

I'm sure this thread will be bumped many times in the future. That's the point. As of Today, December 8th, 2012, one day after the hiring of Butch Jones.. I want your opinion. How do you think we will be with Butch Jones a year from now? two years? three? four.... so on so on?

Personally, I can see Butch Jones struggling in his first year. By year two we will still struggle. Year three will be when he is evaluated. And at the end of year three he will be fired.

What's your opinion?
:peace2::eek:lol::birgits_giggle::salute::lolabove::lolabove: wrong :clapping: wrong:blink: wrong.. this coach won, he has proven he can coach ... 4 championships in 6 years is enough to prove he deserves a chance.:eek:k::eek:k:

I think we will have a good indication after year one.

He inherits a better team with or without Bray, JH, and CP than many think. LB, TE, and WR are sore spots but there's solid talent and reasonable depth everywhere else.

If he's just 6-6 and isn't competitive in most of the losses then he's more than likely not the guy. We are still in wait and see mode if he wins 7 regular season games. If he wins 8 then we may be on to something good.

Not trying to hedge too much but I think it comes down to recruiting. If he can avg a top 15 finish and around 3.4 stars then I believe he will succeed. If he doesn't then I think he's gone after 3.

Hoping for the best.

Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe his first season at Bama. You saw improvement by the end of his first season and especially in year 2.

CBJ will be here a long time. Shut this thread down. Sheezy, you need to find a Vandy Message Board and join a real bunch of whiners!

HEY! I resemble that remark! :p

That said.. I saw where someone posted "inside the park homerun". I agree with the poster of that remark. CBJ will be a very good coach at UT.

I hope fans aren't expecting 8 wins next year with the schedule we play ( at Oregon, at Florida and at Alabama) that's 3 pretty sure losses off the bat. Lets be realistic about this. We would be fortunate to win 6 games next season even if Saban was coaching.

My prediction:
UT, 4-8 in 2013, struggling to find no-huddle read-option in knoxville
UT, 6-6 in 2014, starting to get better, but SEC wants size not finesse,
UT, 7-5 in 2015 and is let go because the Legion of the Miserable can't stand watching a coach be 17-19 in his first 3 years.

Mattress will burn, Grumors will fly, and Lovie's smith's plane will be in the air, and then we will wake up and still be a bottom tier SEC team.

THANKS MIKE HAMILTON and DAVE HART YOU DID THIS.
Your fired. To my ignore list if I got room

I am all-in with our new coach. I am the first to admit that name does not spark the same attention as a Gruden or some others, but 'winners - win & whiners - whine'.

Opinion of current situation - First, there is talent on the team and some depth, Second, there will be some personnel losses and these will have impact, Third, the defense will be much better (only direction is upward), as well as the kicking game.

Projection for 2013: 7/5 with outside for 8/4.Not an easy schedule, but we should be competitive and win 1 game we are to lose, while winning the games we should.

everyone is bashing the guy who started the thread, but it seems like no one is actually willing to put their neck out and predict 10-2 or 11-1 seasons, or sec championship appearances, under jones. If we don't even expect him to get to the sec title game, then it was a bad hire.
8-4 2013
9-3 2014
9-3 2015

That's kind of the point. I am not saying he should be "expected" to win a bunch of games. I am saying if he's the coach UT needs... he will win games he isn't supposed to win and will get (almost) all the ones he is supposed to get. If he's avg.... which is what I think 6-6 would likely reflect then he's not going to be the coach in 3 years.

Butch Jones is a better coach than Dooley or Kiffin.

Dooley was never the answer, and as time passes it becomes apparent Kiffin is all sizzle and no steak.

They also destroyed us when they weren't supposed to. Good coaches win games they shouldn't and dominate their rivals. Fulmer was thoroughly outcoached in that game.

Cha-ching.

That's why I will be waiting for Jones to prove his mettle by upsetting someone.

The cupboard isnt bare and there is no reason we shouldnt win 7 games next year. Judging from the staff that is being assembled IDK what to expect.

I think Butch Jones will win here after a so-so first year. I don't know if he'll win a championship, but I think he will beat a Florida or Alabama in (probably) his second or (at the very least) third year and I think he will get us back near the top of the SEC East.

I think he's got alot of upside, but I still think the way the coaching search was handled shows that Hart is a terrible AD.

Why Bret Beliema, off 3 Rose Bowl wins, would choose to coach for 3rd in the SEC West every year is beyond me, but in my opinion, the SEC East is ripe for a new bully. Spurrier can't do it ... Richt is solid, but can't seem to take the thrown ... Muschamp? please.

I think Tennessee can rise again in the East. If we can do that, recruiting picks up, and quite possibly we do start winning games we've grown too accustomed to losing. If you win the SEC East in 2014 when they start playing a 4-team playoff, you are in the National Championship conversation by default. That's what we all want, right? We can get there without the need for an undefeated season.

Why meet this new era with pessimism?

Assuming Hart can get Chancellor Smails to cooperate:

Year 1: 6-6 (3-5 SEC)

Year 2: 8-4 (4-4 SEC)

Year 3: 9-3 (5-3 SEC)

If we give this man all the opportunities Majors and Fulmer had to develop and sustain elite-level football teams, then he will gradually get us back where we were.

It isn't Jones who troubles me. It is Cheek.
