The holier than thou crowd, that is nearly almost always wrong, are eager to serve crow when they finally put one on the scoreboard, yet conveniently forget that were dead wrong consistently for a decade. 😂

Bring it on.... I will take my licks as warranted. I actually think I was a Steele guy during the CPF decision phase, even as an interim if I remember right. Not anti Pruitt or Tucker, just uninformed during that week. Probably was hopeful once the trigger was pulled.

Dooley was a head scratcher out of the blue for me. Liked his Mom and Dad and hoped for heredity to kick in, but never happened.

Butch I honestly don't remember where I was with and following that hire. Did not care for cheap shots on a sitting coach cause the players still had to play for them. Never minded intelligent discussion of stats or short comings. Hoped his hokey words of wisdom would work, sue me. So bring back my sins to view. I am sure I hoped for miracles along the way, but.........

FOR sure was anti Freeze (ha) and anti a Kiffin redo and vocal about it. No apologies. Would have gone into hiding if they were hired to not cross the sitting coach cheap shot line. Can always cheer, defend and comment on those between the lines.

FOR THE RECORD..... I went back to the Get Behind Coach Heupel thread to see my bootlicking on the hire and here is what I found. You have anything different. I do invite EVERYONE to search and go back to that thread and read EVERY post to see the variants of approaches to addressing issues. Anyway here is my offering from that day.....

Do you really trust your assessment, more of a projection, over our new AD's enough to get on sites and make pronouncements? He has a pretty good track record of getting the right guy in place. I will sit back and wait for some milestones before I go into providing post mortem analysis. I had hoped we could get some A list guys listen, maybe they did, but when we could not quantify the impact of the NCAA investigations, they could not do a risk/reward analysis and passed.

This board on 1/27/21.

One went as far as to sling personal insults my way. It amazes me how some people have the audacity to say things to you via a board that would never do so in person. There should be more transparency on these boards. It would minimize the cowardice.

What Heupel and company have done thus far is well beyond any realistic expectations anyone could have had for him when he took the job. He still has more years ahead of him to prove staying power, but no one has any current grounds to doubt him. His trajectory from 3 wins to 11 wins in 2 years is steeper than anyone's in the SEC that is still coaching and perhaps all of the BIG 5.

Still, none of that changes the fact that he had 2 years of head coaching experience prior to taking the job at Tennessee. None of which were in a Big 5 conference. His accomplishments at UCF were difficult to assess as he inherited an undefeated team at UCF that was slowly trending in the wrong direction.

Facts are he had yet to prove himself at this level and was taking on a project noone else wanted and noone else had succeeded at in 4 years before or many after the one guy who had and we fired. We had a guy come in with many years of HC experience and championships in similar leagues who came close, but could not do it. So, why would we have felt confident Heupel could do it when he inherited an even worse situation?

Once many of us heard Heupel and his staff take the podium, we were all set a little more at ease by the professional, articulate, perceptive and knowledgeable staff that began to speak to us one by one. It is then that I began to become more supportive and felt there was something different about this bunch than anything we have seen. The rest has been history.

Anyone else has anything to say about my or anyone else's character via a message board, or any other means that is behind one's back might as well sign their comments with, "AKA Coward".

Hopefully I can close this thread by observing that any long-time poster here has said things which turned out to be ridiculous as time marches forward, and said some things which turned out exactly as predicted. It's called being human and caring a great deal about something.

My point initially was why do some feel compelled to drag up the instances where folks were wrong in an effort to somehow point out that....gasp.....folks were wrong!

Anywho, Tennessee is looking about as good in the big 3 sports as any time I can recall. Football, hoops, and the Fighting Voltellos are all at the top of their game, and are all top 10 programs. Let's enjoy the ride, and not worry about who got it right and who didn't in a particular curcumstance.

Just a thought.

@WilcoVolsFan, I'll extend an olive branch by observing that I don't think there are any bandwagon or fair-weather fans left on the board. After the 15-20 year poop fest we have been through, I think those types of fans are wearing red hats with a knock-off of the Green Bay Packers logo this morning.

Those that are left are true Vols. You and me included.

Here's another thought.

Maybe not declare your hastily assembled and uninformed opinion as a fact, share it in the most dramatically Karen way possible for max. drama, then get your panties in a twisty when it's humorously brought up later w/a "Still true?" or similar response. That, or laugh it off as "OK, you got me" take the L and not create a new thread calling more attention to it w/the title of pay no attention to it.
