Good horror?

It wasnt too bad.
Agreed. It had been so long since I’ve seen the original that I forgot most of it. Vampire and werewolf movies are generally mediocre at best so I’m always interested in trying to find a diamond in the rough. This was decent though.

There’s one other reason to like Howling II. You know exactly what I mean too. It is comically bad though, which is funny given you have Christopher Lee in it.

I was going to give a shout out to DS. Also didn't think Silver Bullet was that bad though it's been ages since I actually watched it.
It’s not bad actually. You expect some silliness of course given you’re watching a movie about werewolves so given that it’s pretty solid.

A so bad it's good list prob should be made, a lot of horror movies like that.

Sleepwalkers 1992 was like that. Best line not actually in the movie was someone shouting in the audience. "Corn on the cop!" (makes sense only if you see it)

I know what you mean...the scene that introduced "furries". If I remember correctly the end credits is that scene on repeat.

Also if you have some extreme nerd in you, the parodies, I loved Saturday the 14th as a teen anyway, and while not as good as Airplane, and Naked Gun series, "Dracula: Dead and loving it", and Elvira Mistress of the Dark are classic Groaners. Evil dead 2 and Army of Darkness are probably the horror comedies I have seen more times then anything NOT called Aliens.

I also enjoyed the pain of all the Movie Macabras, and other Elvira commented 50-60's films, or Mystery Science Theater series when they did horror....extra credit if it's anything with Vincint Price.

My wife and I just watched the 2006 Wicker Man with Nick Cage. Absolutely hilariously bad. I was so caught off guard when he started beating up the ladies

Almost all remakes are horrible.
I don't know if it's a thread already somewhere but as for horror remakes the first good ones that come to mind are The Thing, The Fly, Dawn of the Dead & Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

People can be pretty split on foreign remakes but I thought The Ring and The Grudge both at least watchable.

Best thing from Sleepwalkers was that song. I believe the Fugees sampled from the same song in Ready or Not. The movie wasn’t as bad as some others out there though. Middle of the pack horror movie.

True, I have enjoyed far worse then that. It just has a couple of specific moments that are so hilariously contrived, the clovis attack cat scene and the corn cob with simpson. And god help me, cause it wasn't supposed to be funny, when he speeds up as the kids are crossing the road.....lol'd most of the way through it. If you watch the car chase also there's a moment when Clovis breaks the 4th wall and stares out at the audiance while Simpson is like "SOB"...just small screen framing appreciation moments like that. So yes...Let's recommend Sleepwalkers, not for the screams so much as the Lulz.

Clovis is a bad kitty.

Spoiler:

Only watch if you never plan on watching the movie, or have already seen it.

Like "funny" or any number of things "scary" is really subjective. If you go all in on phobias there are people that can be reduced to a catatonic state of fear by things that wouldn't even move the needle for others. It's what makes recommending movies so tricky.

So with the above caveat I came across the movie Haunt. (I think there's more than one but this one is from 2019) If you like the "haunted house gone wrong" genre (Like Hell Fest which I think is better known) it's pretty good. It's got most of the tropes you'd expect with that type of setting but there's enough going on that it kept me interested.

Henry portrait of a serial killer messed me up as a teenager. Almost threw up.

Jaws scares me to this day.

Unless it’s something that can actually happen it doesbt bother me but to this day I am scared of deep water.

Late to the party just wanted to throw my dime in for October.

If recent isn't a must. Because honestly I find alot of the older Horror movies better. They build more suspense and better stories. Instead of immediately shooting their wad via CGI.

Examples:

Ghost Story (1981) [ Fred Astaire, Melvyn Douglas, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., John Houseman, Craig Wasson, and Alice Krige.]
(maybe the best gost story I have ever seen)

The Fog” (1980) [Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins, Janet Leigh and Hal Holbrook.]
(I mean Jamie Lee and Barbeau in same movie scream queen perfection..stay away from the remake it's trash)

The Shining” (1980) (kind of obvious one you have probably already seen, but in case you haven't.)

Poltergeist (all of em) (Not deep but satisfying, guessing most have seen them but for the younglings that haven't, nice mix of campy, horror, and comedy).

The Exorcist (1973)(You have probably seen it, but it's the classic. There is a reason this is normally everyone's number one scariest movie of all time)

The Omen (1976)(another you likely have seen but if not, similar to exorcist in some ways but instead of abeject horror it's abject dread)

The Wicker Man (1973) (like the six sense don't let anyone tell you about it or how it ends)

An American Werewolf in London (1981) (Best werewolf movie ever made, one of the greatest practical effect movies)

Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001) Second best werewolf movie ever made...and HOTTIE Monica Bellucci in her prime. More action.

The Witch (2015) (one of the very few modern horror movies that builds the same suspense as classics, well done)

Vampires 1998 (more action then scary, but possibly my favorite vampire movie in that they actually do what you would WANT to do when facing vampires instead of being idiots, and James Woods, and Sheryl Lee make it a campy classic. I just like how it flies in the face of all the usual vampire tropes)

The Thing (1982) (another you probably have seen but just and absolute must see classic, also can be beconsidered Alien series Beta test movie, the other greatest practical effect movie)

Rosemary's Baby (1968) very disturbing, arguably more disturbing now the more we know about Polanski....fiction or documentary? If ya know you know. There are cults that believe this crap.

Don't Look Now (1973) (donald Sutherland, this one deserves to be in the group of classics you have already seen and yet is often overlooked. Well done british horror, and good acting)

Jacobs Ladder (1990) PTSD as horror....Kinda surprised this isn't being talked about again....given our number of vets etc.

The Devils backbone 2001 (Excellent Spanish horror film and ghost story)

Ringu (1998) (you probably have seen it or certainly the memes but one of the best Japanese ghost stories, and they excel at ghost stories)

The Wailing (2016) (Korean ghosts story more dark comedy then horror, but very good)

The Sixth Sense (1999) I assume everyone have seen this one, I don't know anyone who hasn't at this point, but none the less for the 1% who haven't seen it, see it before it's ruined for you.

The Vanishing (1988) (More thriller then horror, but a great french suspense movie with disturbing nature, before the 6th sense this was the one that could be most ruined if someone told you ending....dont ask just watch)

[REC] (2007) Really good Spanish horror film more in the zombie camp. Jump scares done well...the best non zombie, zombie film.

I dunno just some I like.....
You have very good taste in horror my friend! Those are ALL winners for different reasons! I'm so glad you mentioned The Wicker Man! That is one of my all-time favorite films! Ghost Story is another one that doesn't get name-checked enough! That movie creeped me out as a kid! I also think The Fog is a very underrated John Carpenter film! I love that movie!

A few that I would add to your list...

The Ruins
The Bay
Creepshow
The Changeling
The Amityville Horror
The Exorcist 3
Children of the Corn

Same. The Descent still gets me too. Caves and deep water are a big no no for me now.
