Good thing Tennessee didn’t hire Lane!

LOL. I never said we should have hired Clawson. I said the plan when he was hired here was for him to eventually take over for Fulmer when Fulmer retired. My point was that Fulmer is gone likely because he didn't give Clawson the same autonomy as he had Cutcliffe and Chavis

Yea I do recall that. Clawson was an upcoming star in the coaching world. Maybe it was, I've heard those rumors. Clawson ran (runs?) an unnecessarily complex offense, imo. Time since then has proven that simplifying and going faster generally has better rewards.

I'm sure you would never leave for a job you considered to be your "dream job" because of timing.......

I absolutely would. I just would not try to recruit from my old employer and I would leave with class.

I would not expect my former employer to ask me back after leaving them in a tough position.

Also the day before our game vs Michigan I believe, Hamilton did a press conference out of the blue saying he was unsure of Bruce's status going forward.... Lilterally out of no where, Hamilton went a full season of standing by Bruce to all of the sudden casting him aside when the only grievance was lying about the BBQ....... No shock here but our AD at that period never supported anything with our coaches and casted them aside anytime something happened.

He straight-up lied to his boss' face about something pretty important and allowed him to make statements to others based on that bad info. Go ahead and try it in your job and see how that works out.

Look, don't get me wrong, Pearl is an incredible Coach and recruiter and a likeable Coach who does fun things - the Lady Vols body painting was epic. I'd have loved it if it'd worked out and he was still at UT, probably would be neck-and-neck w/Kentucky as the top SEC programs right now. But this is not a case of swallowed pride. He was fired for cause and has a history of being sketch. He was a snitch who threw a kid under the bus at Iowa, earned a 3-year show cause at UT, and has the MFing FBI looking at him in Auburn.

Barnes meanwhile has the program running clean, put more kids in the NBA than anyone else, has us nationally ranked and even #1 for a long stretch, and is someone you can be proud of as a leader in an educational institution.

Unbelievable that Vol fans are beating a dead horse for 21 pages.

Facts:
1. He's not our coach - hasn't been in several years
2. He left us, and did some unprofessional things on his way out
3. He was not going to hired back here due to the way he left and his history of flirting with NCAA rules
4. He coaches for a rival now

Can we find something more relevant to discuss??

For all those folks who “wish” Tennessee would have hired Lane back…..

The real “wish” would be to go back and wish Tennessee had hired Patterson back then instead of Lane.

No doubt…..end of story…..Tennessee would not be in this mess right now…….and most likely would have remained at least relevant….to good through all these BAD years.

Sure we may be looking for a coach by now….or maybe within the last few seasons……but things would have been much different.

Yep.

Biggest mistake Hamilton ever made.

Would have much rather had Brian Kelly than Patterson. I don’t know if recruiting would have been good enough under Patterson to compete at a high level.

He wasn’t really an option then with 2 seasons of Cincy under his belt.

Patterson was.

Patterson had also been 11-1, 11-2, 8-5, & 11-2 his previous 4 seasons.

Patterson actually interviewed for the job back in 2008.

Back then I would “assume” most anyone would have taken Patterson over Kelly.

Patterson had been stellar at TCU…..although he has slipped a lot over the past few years……who knows what “could” have happened had he landed Tennessee when Tennessee was still……Tennessee (down at the time by standards….but not like now days).

Tennessee didn’t think Patterson could handle a program as big as Tennessee “was”……so instead they hired someone would actually couldn’t.

How was Kelly not an option? He interviewed for the job. And him only being at Cincinnati for two years ago as no impact on his candidacy. according to some Troy Calhoun from Air Force was the choice after kiffin and he had only been in Colorado Springs for two years.

Brian Kelly at the time had
3 seasons at Central Michigan:
4-7
6-5
9-4

And 2 at Cincy
10-3
11-3

He became a real option after his undefeated next season.

Feel free to “wish” whatever you want……Patterson was a legit option……Kelly was not.

Also, and especially back then I would have taken Patterson all day every day over Kelly. Patterson kept things rolling for quite a while at TCU. While Kelly landed all the resources in the world at ND and hadn’t done any better until the past few seasons.

USC fans in wide part now say they regret running him off given his record while facing big punishments and restrictions and what they have gotten since with Sark and Helton........
They are better now than where he left them, and that is saying a lot.

Would love to see the results of that poll.

Because it totally sounds true and not pulled out of your @ss.

I know quite a few USC alums who are also (well were cause of the drop off under Sark/Helton) who now give Kiffin some slack because of the program he inherited in terms of punishments from the Carroll era.... Because their AD is about inept as Tennessee, a lot of SC fans would have gladly wanted Kiffin to be looked at Post Saban/FAU gig. But yes, whatever someone on internet say must be false.

I'm sure currently having no bowl bans or scholly restrictions may have something to do with it in terms of roster, but they are now on their 3rd search in a ten years. One because of a drunk coach and the other because of stumbling bumbling idiot.
