Good Thing UT Doesn't Have A Boring Coach...

I'm a huge Bo Ryan fan and love his coaching style.

However, since Pearl arrived at Tennessee he's 109-39 with 2 Sweet 16s, a 2nd round loss and a 1st round loss.

Bo Ryan during that same period is 113-39 with 1 sweet 16, 2 2nd round losses and a 1st round loss.

Pretty comparable with a slight advantage to Pearl during that period.

Yeah, except you neglected to mention in Ryan's first four years his tourney resume was actually better.

Great points.
Hard to beat such hard hitting analysis. Once his pal Pancratz gives him his talking points, he'll be back to tell us how all the mess that's gone on the last week is evidence of a healthy program.

I didn't neglect anything. Pearl wasn't at Tennessee during Ryan's first four years. It's Pearl's time at Tennessee that has a few posters' panties in a bunch.

And why would knowing the TV ratings make you feel any better or worse? Television doesn't make or break a basketball program.
A tournament restricted to members of one religion and watched by about 15 people doesn't constitute an "international stage."

Why does it matter where Pearl was, you can't give him the edge on tourney resume, because he doesn't have a better one.

hat, realistically who would you have hired instead of coach Pearl ? I can't remember the candidates at that time but would like to know your choice.

Some people are never satisfied. Seeing this is a Tennessee board I chose Pearl's time at Tennessee. If you want to post what their records are back to the beginning of time, feel free.

The teams invited to the tourny were from a variety of nations around the world. That makes it an international competition. Perhaps only a basketball court that rotates around the planet during competition would fit your concept of international stage.

I don't have the numbers at my disposal, but I heard that the games were well-attended.

Here's a statistic that may help you: As one of the largest elite competitions, the Maccabiah grew to over 7000 athletes from over 50 countries making it the third largest sports event in the world.

Using this technique, Pearl's record dwarfs those of Knight, Rupp, Wooden, etc. I like that methodology.

"Elite competition?" Yeah, those rosters were filled with NBA stars.

True, but that technique doesn't help him too much with the guy he'll be shaking hands with at 4:28 tomorrow.

So I see a post about Bo Ryan (who I said I liked very much). Out of curiosity I thought I would look up how well Pearl's resume stacked up since he was hired at Tennessee. (You know, the team that this message board is based on.) As it turned out, it was very comparable so thought it was relevant to the discussion. I should've known that these facts would be met with outrage by those who forbid anything positive to be posted and only enjoy a good rant.

As I said earlier if you or someone else want to post their entire body of work from the beginning of their careers have at it.

I have the inclination, but not the time, to argue further. I'm out. Carry on, folks.

Outrage? I just called the comparison garbage. I'm not the least bit outraged. I'm fine with people thinking Pearl coaches. I just don't agree.

Fool yourself all you like that my viewpoint is agenda driven, but that's silly. I like the guy, just think he has gaping holes in his skill set.

Hey, it was one of your Pearl worshipping cohorts who said earlier this year he's rather lose with UT executing "alley oops and nice dunks" than win with Bo Ryan's style. Take it up with your fellow Pearlophiles.

How is that a guy loses an argument to me, then cries and puts me on ignore, then somehow responds to things I write by creating threads to gig me?

I would hate hate hate watching boring Bo Ryan craptastic looking bball.

I am grateful we do not have a coach who is trying to win in the 60s.

If the shot clock did not exist, Bo Ryan is the kind of coach who would want to win games by running around the whole time. It is ugly, it is boring and it sucks.

All the huggins huggers must be enjoying tonight a great deal...
Calhoun coughs up an 18 point lead, and now Bob Huggins is getting smacked around like a child.

If Bruce Pearl did either it would be evidence of how terrible he is...unsaid in this thread is that Bo Ryan has the worst loss of any top 25 team, he lost to Wisconsin Green Bay, a team my church league squad just beat in overtime.

I just posted facts, their records since Pearl arrived at Tennessee. Which is garbage, the guy who posted the facts or the smart alec reply about Rupp, et all?

As is evidenced on this board, basketball is a "what have you done for me lately" profression. The simple fact is since Pearl arrived at Tennessee their records are near identical with the exception that Pearl has one more Sweet 16. And for the third time I'm a huge fan of Ryan and his coaching style.

There's a lot of one liners thrown around on this board with very little substance to back them up.

Dont be ridiculous. The complaints about Pearl have been the same since they started and are beard upon 5 years of watching the same issues crop up over and over.

Again, selective use of the two coaches' tourney resumes to support your POV is garbage. You calling it relevat doesn't make it so, which I pointed out with my comparison.

It wasn't a comment about style, which I believe to be irrelevant. It was about calling the two as tourney coaches comparable, which your timeline analysis falsely portrayed.
