Give it up. CCK has done something that goes beyond stupidity by writing those 'thank-you' cards. It's only a matter of time at this point.
It's not against the rules to thank a vendor for what they've done for your program. At least based on what has been said so far, both Kelly and Lyles thought that coordinating visits with athletes he was working with was within the rules.
I don't think it's as clear cut as you think. For example, it's not against the rules for Lyles to give an athlete a ride somewhere "for" the athlete. If the athlete needs a ride, Lyles provides it and it happens to be in Oregon's interest as well, who is the ride "aiding"? Oregon or the athlete?
Wheaton surely you cant think this is all the dirt they are going to dig up can you? Look at OSU and all the dirt they dug up on Vest. You may be right in that he will be coach this time next year. I tend to doubt it. I would say there is about to be a big explosion of bad news for you guys.
Who knows? I suppose there could be dirt we don't know about. I don't see any reason to assume that there is. So far, it's not a question of how much dirt, it's a question of whether or not what has happened was within the letter of the rules.
I think that it could go either way. Either the NCAA drops the hammer. Or, they recognize that there is a lot of gray area in the rules about scouts as they are written and use the incident to clarify them.
^^ use to be a USC fan, then Oregon, now just bitter.
^^ use to be a Kiffin fan.
FWIW - Been an Oregon fan since I was a kid. Grandfather was on the team, etc. Listening to rival fans for perspective on what a program is like is a mistake.
That article starts off with a false statement. Lyles did not say that Oregon paid him to steer recruits. He has denied that he was ever paid to steer recruits anywhere multiple times.
Every time i get to thinking maybe its not as bad as we think, something that seems even shadier comes out. If the thing about the recruits grandma is true, then Lyles and the Oregon staff is scum and deserve whatever happens.
The grandma thing wasn't shady. Lache Seastrunk was raised by his grandmother because his mom had drug/legal problems. Lache has stated himself that the only reason she wanted to control where he went to school was to try and get something out of it herself.
It's not against the rules for Lyles to help an athlete accomplish what they want to do. If these kids already wanted to go to Oregon, there would be no further "recruiting" to be done. Lyles wouldn't be acting in a "recruiting" capacity to help Seastrunk with some family conflict.
