Unless the majority of prognosticators are wrong, he'll be behind Florida after this year.

Those same prognosticators who had UT #3 overall last year? I'll take Steele's word over theirs.

Boy, did I call that, or did I call that. (Just wasn't hat that did it.) :banghead:

I'm already in the post, and not gonna go back to see who said it, but whomever said that you feel those three programs had "passed us by" because we couldn't stay on the field with them....... Oregon????!!!! If you honestly think we couldn't "stay on the field" with Oregon, then why in the hell would you even think for a minute that Cal isn't gonna come in and beat Tennessee by 40. I'll expect your written reversal when we defeat Cal, because if we beat them, there is no doubt that we would beat Oregon.

A program passing us doesn't mean we can't hang on the field. Not sure why you even think those 2 statements mean the same thing. If someone said that, they don't speak very well. :D

We can beat any team in the nation in 1 game. I know it. I know we can. That doesn't mean their program isn't doing a tad better than ours. Oregon has had just about as much success as Tennessee has in the 2000s.

It was a struggle against them last year. If it continues to be then we have a problem.
It's been a struggle against those caliber teams for several years. we beat Memphis 17-16 in 99, and 19-17 in 00. Last year it was 20-16. Do I need to remind you what the score was in 96? We struggled with Fresno St, Marshall, and Duke in 03. In 02 we had trouble with MTSU and Rutgers. Against South Carolina the score was 17-14 in 00, 17-10 in 01, 18-10 in 02, and 23-20 in 03. We struggled with both UK and Vandy in 04. We lost to both Vandy and SC last year.

First of all, I said it, since you don't want to take the time to see who you're addressing. Second of all, I stand by what I said. I think Oregon is a better team than California. I'm also not very confident about the Cal game. I hope we win by 50, but I'm just not very optimistic after last year.

Since we defeated LSU last year then there is no doubt that last years team would also beat Alabama, Florida, and Vandy.

I agree. I wasn't surprised we lost to south carolina. The year before, south carolina took UT to the last seconds of the game. Vandy and Memphis both have been playing UT extremely close. What is also true the games lost in the SEC championship games and to rivals GA haven't been games that were decided in the final minute. The games with South Carolina, Vandy, Memphis, seem to be closer then the games with GA, Auburn, LSU.

We beat the crap out of South Carolina in '04. The second half was all Vols. In the last seconds of the game, there was no question that UT would win. I think we beat them by three TDs.

For real. Of course, next week we went down to Miami and beat them. That just goes to show you the potential our players have. However, they don't get fired up for the lesser games, which can lead to close games and/or losses against weaklings such as Memphis, Vandy, UK, UAB, etc. In my opinion, if the final score against these caliber foes does not show the Vols on top by 28, it might as well be a loss for us. Honestly, sometimes I think some high schools would give UT a close game.

I was thinking of the 03 game with SC that UT won 23-20 in OT. The same year UT won in 5 overtimes over Alabama 51-43. In 02, UT won another close game with SC, 18-10.

So its not really a surprise considering how close those games were, that UT ended losing to both of those teams two years later.

that's part of the problem...we have a real tendency to play down or up to the competition, there's been no real consistency..and when we beat Miami that year, it was great and all, but it was also a mix of "really? did we just do that?" cause we didn't exactly play great....the D did well granted, but as much as i hate to say it, i think Miami probably thought they would toast us, and let that game get away....for whatever reason.

but at the same time, i'll give 'em credit for taking advantage of what ever Miami didn't do in order to win that game....we still had to make some plays to win it, and we did, so for that, i can't take anything away from them.

Kind of the same way i felt about the Clemson Peach Bowl...we didn't come in ready to play for whatever reason, and Clemson took advantage and made the plays to win, we didn't. So it can go both ways.....

Did Jim Kelley ever win a superbowl? If not put me down for him and Marino
he was 0-4...and that's 4 in a row mind you....as bad as everyone feels for Marino, Jim Kelly has to be #1 on the sympathy list....to even go to 4 super bowls in a row is quite the accopmplishment, but to lose all 4, is equally as heartbreaking i would think for the player.
