These threads are always a joke. The greatest part of the Tennessee tradition we talk so much about occurred between 1927 and 1952. That's when the guy we named the stadium after and whose maxims we use coached UT football. Yet, nobody on this board believes a great play was made prior to 19990.

Could you name a few?

Sorry but I wasn't even a gleam in my dad's eye back then.

The defensive back from Nashville who always jumped the route and tried to intercept passes. He sometimes got burned by jumping the route and then not being in position and the receiver would catch and have no one in the vicinity to catch him.
Anyway, he jumped the route against Vandy in Neyland in O/T, got the int. and we won. Kiffin recruited him and Dooley benched him and he left the team.

Great thread, OP!! My favorite is Dale Jones continued smacking and sacking of Testeverde in the Orange Bowl. What a game! Stood in front of the TV the entire game. Thinking of that game still puts a smile on my face all these years later. :)

The Erik Ainge no look pass to the defense for a walk in touchdown as he gets slung to the ground against LSU in Baton Rouge..........oh wait, you said greatest plays, not worst plays

Here's a good one from a relatively recent Era: Montario Hardesty at home vs Cal. He swept right, ran into a wall of about 5 guys and was essentially stopped dead. He kept his legs churning, shrugged off every single one of them and broke away for a touch down en route to a beat down over a Pac 10 team. it's at 2:34 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TwI7DCtUbN4

Yeah, I guess if we didn't witness what happened in 1951 or diligently study grainy, washed out game film from that era, then we shouldn't celebrate anything that happened in the decades since. Good point.

Wes Brown's interception returned for touchdown against Vanderbilt, busted knees and all, he drug half the team into the end zone. I think it was 2008 or 2009.

One of my favorites also, talking about playing with heart. He would not be denied that endzone.

Some others:

Leonard Scott's 100-yard kick return versus Georgia in 1999.

The fake end-around pass from Lucas Taylor to LaMarcus Coker in 2006 vs. Florida, and again in 2007 vs. Georgia, both times for a touchdown.

Darrin Miller's 96-yard intercepted pitch, escorted to the end zone by Terry McDaniel and Andre Creamer, vs. Iowa in 1987.

Reggie White blasting Dalton Hilliard in the backfield, vs. LSU in 1983.

Eric Berry's 96-yard pick-6 of Tebow vs. Florida in 2007.

Was at that game! Saw Mark McGuire play (Oakland) at Yankee Stadium and his brother Dan play QB for Iowa the same weekend.

It's kind of sad but the blocked field goal in 2007 against Kentucky in the 2nd OT. They finally get the ball back to Eric Berry, and he's going to house it until a UK player facemask tackles him

Mose Phillips catch and td run against Florida in the pouring down rain

I was there in the student section on the 45..it was raining a little, but it seemed like as soon as he caught that pass from Shuler and turned it became a downpour. It was an awesome day.

I was in the same place, about row 10. There were about three times as many people in that section as there were seats.

I was thinking about this last week. maybe post video links to the greatest plays here in the forum as well.

James Wilhoit FG to Win UT vs UF 2004 - YouTube

I was sitting in the recruit section to the right there. I was about 4 rows behind good ole Jimmy Clausen. I honestly do not know if I have ever heard Neyland that loud.

I was in the hospital with my wife, who had just given birth to our first child early that morning. One of the nurses came in talking about how frustrated she was that the Vols lost on a missed extra point. She didn't believe us when we told her they won.
