Jeff Buckley without a doubt. I don't care how many Hollywood starlets or American Idol douchers have co-opted his legacy, dude was an incredible and technically, proficient guitarist who had the best pipes in the history of rock. I challenge anyone to both play and sing "Grace".

Drowned in the Mississippi River while spending some time recording in Memphis at the age of 30. Was not a druggie or a boozer. Son of folk legend Tim Buckley who never gave a crap about him while Jeff was growing up. He, ultimately, was better than his father.

Staley. Done.

Would love to hear him belt it out in the basement with some of my songs. RIP.

In his prime, Steve Walsh was as good as any lead singer. With that said my top lead singers would be:

Steve Walsh(Kansas)
Robert Plant(Led Zeppelin)
Peter Gabriel (Genesis)
Jon Anderson(Yes)
Geddy Lee(Rush)
Eddie Vedder(Pearl Jam)

My dad would insist it's Roy Orbison and that no argument to the contrary should even considered. I, of course, would not agree, but I thought it would be appropriate to put in the opinion of a Baby Boomer.

Brett scallions from Fuel is pretty good

Menard from tool and apc

Pete loeffler from chevelle

Ed sloan-Crossfade

And my favorites chris cornell and aaron lewis

Realizing that music is substantially subjective, I'm still gonna go out on a limb here and make the bold statement that championing Chris Cornell's vocals vis a vis Freddie Mercury is completely indefensible.
