Griffith Saying On The Radio That...

....except that our college education wasn't provided free of charge on the merit that we could at least draw iron from 15 feet.

If I remember correctly, my academic scholarships were contingent upon my maintenance of a reasonable GPA. Should I have fallen beneath that standard, then the criticism and/or relinquishing of my scholarship would be expected.

Oops...blew my cover...I forgot that this thread pointed out that anyone who criticizes UT basketball must be a "trailer park redneck." Back to my fried spam bologna sandwich.

Free? How much time per week do you think they commit to basketball? It would probably be more profitable getting a part time job.

So when you screwed up and blew your academic scholarship, you had handfuls of idiots trashing you on the internet for not being smart enough to maintain your gpa? I'd like to see that message board.

So you're advocating placing the names of kids that fall below the requisite GPA for retaining a scholarship on a message board so that we can let 'em have it? Ooooooooh, I can see the similarities now. That sounds like the right idea. I was confused.

The sandwich sounds delicious, by the way!

Woolridge will probably not start next year (Harris coming to town), but we still need quality guys coming off the bench. I think it is hard for some players to realize that the NBA is not in their future. It is probably harder when your dad did it. The key to winning championships (unless you are Calapari, or another one and done type of coach) is gettting your players to accept roles. This guy is no scrub, but barring extreme improvement is not challenging for all SEC anytime soon. Hope he sticks it out.

Pearl has said message board criticism has "hurt Woolridge's feelings." John Adams had the the right take. "If he doesn't want to get criticized, he shouldn't put himself out there on Twitter, etc."

when pearl comes on the radio and says this pitiful crap... he justifies swiperdud's feelings. IMO... this again shows pearl's inability to instill mental toughness and discipline in his players. this is an opportunity for pearl to TEACH. "u ignore this crap son. block it out. focus on IMPROVING your game. focus on what our team is doing etc etc." he might be saying that... but when pearl comes on the radio with the violins playing for swiperdud... it just validates that woolridge is paying attention to this junk to begin with.

no wonder their effort and mental toughness is mostly non-existent and at best extremely inconsistent. IMO, pearl doesn't have the respect or attention of the players like he should. they don't fear him. he tries to be their buddy to much. they are looking around during timeouts... pearl is yelling and they are staring off into space. WTF?

it's not profound. it's the basics of sports: athletic ability, mental toughness and discipline. pearl should be drilling this mantra into them. instead, he comes on the radio and mentions a players "hurt feelings". it's just ridiculous. most of them play like they have hurt feelings.... instead of like they are well prepared, confident and about to kick someone's ass.

So we're clear, the NCAA limited that time to 20 hours per week.

That's clearly what he was saying. Has nothing to do with meeting minimal requirements to hold a scholarship.

But unless it's changed since I knew the rule, that 20 hours doesn't include time that it takes to study film, training room treatments, travel to and from games and the games themselves. It also doesn't include hosting recruits, attending booster club meetings and performing community service. You could even lump study table and training table in there as well to some extent.

When I was in college (in the 80's), my time commitment was WELL beyond 20 hours. Much closer to 40+ when you add everything up. How many full-time students do you know that have full-time jobs as well?

The whole "free" argument is a myth.

What's McBee and JP's twitter name? Stuggling players get criticized no matter what they do socially. He shouldn't be reading the boards if his skin is so thin. A little surprising considering he's an aspiring artist, better toughen up quick if he wants to get anywhere in the music biz.

My point was, it's ridiculous when people say "Well, he gets a free education" so.......

It's FAR from free.

Fair enough, but doc's point was about maintaining that free/not free education.

Don't you get it? We're supposed to be content on our program spending millions of dollars on renovations to appeal to recruits who would rather work his nights and weekends on perfecting his Blue's Clues quality soundtrack than maybe spend a couple hours in the million dollar renovated practice facility to work on making a layup.

Yea it's not free, but he is putting out cheap quality results while possessing unlimited amount of resources to improve. If I provide a sales team with a million dollar travel expense and they only come back with 2 contingent sales, then they're going to get criticized badly, whether they're 56 or 16, and may lose their jobs.

This is absolutely, positively the worst analogy I have ever read.
