Gruden next UT Coach??????

UT's still paying fulmer, they can't afford millions more right now to pay off dooley on some obscene golden parachute buyout deal.

Actually, I grimace when I see the Gruden thread.

DD came into a football program that no other coach "worth their salt" would take. Fulmer drove it into the ground and Kiffin added more dirt to the pile.

Just look at the situation today, this program is filled with promise for the season. The have a full roster, and a lot of skill at the key positions. This is the season where CDD will show his coaching ability (or lack of... as many here hope).

IMO...CDD will be a fixture at UT for years to come...the man will mature into the role of a head coach of a major football program, we will see a change in him this year.

The Vols under CDD's leadership will win enough games to capture the hearts of even some you you haters.

Just heard the UF announcer from Jacksonville say that he thinks CDD is gone after this year and that HE thinks that Gruden is in. What does everybody think about that??:unsure:

You know, I have wondered if he would do it, but I seem to think he is more about the NFL. I don't know if he would stay. I like Dooley, and want him to be our coach for a long time. I can not go through another coaching change...

doofus dooley with a golden parachute???

mike hamilton. the gift that keeps on giving.

p.s.: what kind of idiot would give a sub .500 from the bush leagues a package like that, regardless of who his daddy was?

when Derek Dooley took the job ,Tennessee was looking at ncaa investigations into recruiting violations.Kiffen had bailed taking our almost entire coaching staff and any new recruits he could with him, there were offers being turned down for the head coaching job at tennessee ,Coach Dooley has come in picked up the pieces and worked his tail off to put it back together and represented UT with integrity:salute:

Hey.......everyone that says "GRUDEN won a Superbowl!!! OMG, HE'S AWESOME!!! He would bring SO much prestige to the UT football program!!!"

Mike Ditka won 3 Super Bowls. He doesn't have a HC gig. Let's hire him. [/sarcasm]

JON GRUDEN IS GARBAGE.

You make it stand out as much as you want, but it doesn't mean it's any more true. It may make you look insane, though.

because backing up the bank truck and pay more than double the salary we are now to get a coach who has

* never coached a college game

* been out of the college game for 21 years

* been out of football for 5 years

* has a mediocre record as a HC

all for the "chance" he can recruit.

That, my friend, is truely insane.

I agree Greve plus lets not forget he is the only HC I have ever seen who can take the QB position and destroy it with the greatest of ease.

Unfortunately, there are many Vols fans who, let us not say don't understand this, but rather REFUSE to understand it.

With all the anti-Dooley junk that persists here, don't be surprised if the team pulls off an amazing season, then CDD accept a job elsewhere and tell all the haters to go to Hell and roast their nads there.

Jon Gruden was a successful head coach at the highest level. I'll trust him to run my college team any day.

And just how many college HC job offers has Gruden turned down? One would think with all the praise and glory that some on this board bestow upon him that he would have his choice as to where he would like to coach since he is so special and gifted.

ah, winning a SB the first year he was traded to TB the proceeding to rack up a sub .500 record. Yeah, that's one impressive resume.

I guess your #2 choice is Larry Coker. He's won a cfb NC at the highest level too.

I'm more impressed with how he rebuilt a devastaed Oakland than the SB win. Anyone that can do that in spite of management there can't be terrible. Jmo, imo, tifwiw, iirc, gbo, vfl

Gruden has way to big of an ego, he feels he can do no wrong and that he has arrived as a football guru. I am sure there are formal players of his teams that have a favorable opinion on his coaching style and beliefs but I have never read them if they exist.

1. College football isn't the highest level.
2. Gruden inherited a team which Dungy kept failing with. It's no the same team he finished with. Blame the management for that.

1. disagree

2. still, his team whether it was management or not. He failed. Dungy failed and was fired. So was JG

Answer me this one simple question: Name one player Gruden recruited and groomed to be an elite player. Just one.

If you cant answer that then just name one player he recruited. Period.

He has been an NFL coach. He hasn't had to recruit. Why do you think he wouldn't be able to recruit?

And whether you like college football more or not, it's harder to win a Super Bowl than a National Championship.

you just answered your own question. :clapping:
I'm confident he could recruit at a high level. He has gotten so much exposure that all recruits would know him. Recruits want to get to the NFL, and I have pretty much no doubt Gruden would be able to convince recruits he can get them to the NFL, and he'll be able to find a staff to back him up unless he simply isn't willing to look.

The NFL has 32 teams, owners with deep pockets to buy the players they feel gives them the best shot at winning.

The FBS has 124 teams that compete for the chance to be a NC, recruiting is paramount to the success of a college program.

I do not see the NFL having the advantage as being harder to win the SB vs the college game. Both wins needs luck to pull it off to some degree but when you get to choose the best players available and pay them huge salaries it really comes down to controlling egos and maximizing your paid talent.
