It is about that time of the year for another "Gruden will be new HC" thread...

Bobby P's mistress was engaged and was going to get married soon before this got out, also found out today that she had been moved a week before to work under Bobby P and that was the biggest reason the university had to let him go because she worked under him.

I heard she just bought a cabin in Pigeon Forge.

Just heard the UF announcer from Jacksonville say that he thinks CDD is gone after this year and that HE thinks that Gruden is in. What does everybody think about that??:unsure:

we have a coach. His name is Derek Dooley. GO vols:)

if the game passed by Fulmer why would we want a coach that last coached in college 21 years ago not to mentioned has never been a college HC

gruden won a super bowl and is on tv all the time---it would be an easy way to get recruits

i think gruden is a pipe dream. he's well fixed and i don't think he's interested in doing the work it would take to restored a trashed program. now if it was handed to him on a silver platter, say bama, LSU, or texas... if dooley's future resembles his past, then i hope the a.d. looks at up and comers, not has-beens. our last so-called a.d. couldn't get any of the hot prospects to return his call.

most buc fans credit dungy and not gruden for that title, but dungy's tampa teams choked in the playoffs

2002, in his first year with the Bucs he led them to a 12-4 record and won the Super Bowl. Great accomplishment but what after that?

In next 6 years he went 45-51 (.469). He only made the playoff two times losing both in the 1st game in the wild card bracket.

Pass on him

Yeah, it's not like Gruden had spent years building up and competing with another NFL team that fell apart after he left.

He's a better coach than Carroll or Saban. He would recruit at a very high level. Unless he can't evaluate talent at all, he would dominate.

Lord, bless your heart

A guy that has never been a college fb hc is a better hc than two guys with 3 NCs. And he's been out of college fb for 21 years. :birgits_giggle:

From a purely coaching standpoint, he is better. He won a level where it's significantly more difficult and where both those guys failed.

That's not to say that he's going to have more success in college, but he's better than the vast majority of options.

I'm going to go on record right now and say that Jon Gruden is a garbage head coach, he's a death sentence waiting to happen for an offense, and the only contact I want him having with the Tennessee Volunteers football team is none.

He's supposedly some "offensive genius", if you want false start penalties and (when it works) 3-yard out routes, then yeah, Gruden's your guy. Look at Tampa Bay's statistics while he was HC there. Went from bad, to awful, to atrociously bad, and got stuck there. And if you think for one second you're going to get a good recruiter out of him, there's some ocean-front property in West Tennessee I'd like to chat with you about.

In closing, think of it like this. Jon Gruden and Phil Fulmer have something in common. With all the coaching vacancies that have come about while they've been off the sidelines......there's a reason they weren't hired, and it has nothing to do with money.

I met Gruden at UT in 86 when he was a grad assistant. He was very gracious; and is now. I know he loves his gig on espn; but competitive guys do surprising things.

I hope Dooley succeeds this year.

I guess I have heard this for about 5 year now. That is enough. Ain't going to happen. Dooley is our coach for the next few years.
