About Erin Andrews
she said i was out with someone who is very close to the ut program, and that knows gruden. He told her it is highly likely, and that she should start warming up her vocal chords (referencing her bet with clay to sing rocky top if gruden comes here). She said she was starting to think it might happen. I heard exactly what she said. She also said for people not to get on twitter saying she broke anything.

i think it is a lot of "educated guessing" going on amongst those around the ad. That's what i think lws, skeeter, and hyams and such are reporting on. Things i have seen and heard today only reinforce this opinion.

info from the former players, boosters, coaching community, and another area is more reliable in this case. He's locked down tighter than dick's hat band. Hart isn't talking much to associate ads. That's why those that share ad stuff are in the dark this time.

purposely haven't posted here for awhile. Didn't want to come in and say "told ya so." but...... Told ya so.

Just got off the phone with boro and he knows all about it and several others have heard now too.

Glad to have all the rest of the folks join the original grudenites. Ov, jay, beecher, boro, and bcarter.

thanks. This is done. I won't post for a year if i'm wrong. I'll gladly come in for 1 week and take my lumps from people too.

all the new stuff that is being heard and circulated is nothing more than confirmation of what several of us have known for awhile.
Now, i like getting these confirmations from other sources too because it firms up the reliability and likelihood of gruden coming.

Enjoy your thanksgiving turkey. Drink up, and know that gruden is here and tennessee football is back.

i don't know. There are legs to this story and both parties are interested, but if he has already signed, it would have been announced and he would be at ut did get started on recruiting. Maybe that will happen tomorrow

the mandatory number of interviews must take place before it can be officially announced. They can be done over the phone. Not a prediction but if that gets taken care of, it might break this weekend.

06:56 PM Today (#P) ( Report! )
Got a phone call in the last hour confirming. The story will break very soon. Deal is done and ESPN has contacted Dilfer about replacing Gruden.

This infers Gruden will not finish MNF schedule, which means this should unfold very soon.....or not?

i do not claim to be "in the know" in any way shape or form. However, i heard something interesting from a friend. His family is very well established in cleveland (i.e., multiple family members have held state and federal political offices). He says that he has heard gruden is being offered a stake in the cleveland browns franchise from haslam if he accepts the hc job at tennessee. This would obviously not be part of the official contract, but if this is true, it sounds like they are working every possible angle.

when haslam sat down with jon in cleveland over a month ago, it wasn't to shoot the $hit.

Coffee is for closers. First prize, a cadillac.

ok, so i called my buddy to see if he had any more information. All he knows is that there have been serious talks concerning gruden receiving some form of ownership or managing position with the browns if he accepts the hc job at tennessee. This would not occur until his coaching career with tennessee was done. He's going to see if he can get any more specifics and call me back. I'll let you know what i hear.

update: The response to the inquiry was, "why are you so interested?" he explained that he has a good friend who is a vol fan who is interested for obvious reasons. He was told that nothing more would be said about the matter and that he shouldn't be repeating things that he is told in confidence. This is from a close relative of his who has always been very gossipy. He found that strange. So, he seems to think that the haslam and the browns have indeed offered gruden a stake in the team (on the condition that he accepts the ut hc job) and are trying to keep thigs quiet for legal reasons.

Doesn't look like i'll be getting anymore info from him, so there ya go.

Got a call from a buddy earlier this afternoon. He has been on the sidelines, no speculation, no guesses, no rumors...he is a very cautious engineer type (doesn't post on here, surprise?)...this is from inside Ath. Dept. to his buddy to him...

Gruden announcement Saturday, $50M over 8 years...11 prospects targeted that JG will personally visit immediately. Ergen was the leader in making it happen. Tee will be on the staff.

He said he would never ever pass it along unless he thought it was 100% rock solid.

TIFWIW...

i'm guessing within the next 48. Erin andrews and erik ainge both know....i know this for a fact. Deal is done, dilfer to mnf.

Since i know andrews knows, they won't be able to keep the lid on it for long.

edit 11/23 - More clarification by Boro:
Then I guess if you read the cliffs you know what I said and what I meant. It should he perfectly clear that it was my speculation, and only speculation, that the media would not sit on this much longer. I stand by that speculation. Nobody communicated the 48 hour timeframe to me. I only speculated. I still speculate the same thing. But its only speculation.

Got it?

If not previously posted, former Vol and current Fox Sports and NFL Network analyst Charles Davis stated that he was excited about the possibility of Gruden coming to Knoxville.

"I think that he would be intrigued," Davis said. "Jon hasn't said word one to me. But if Tennessee's interested in him, I'm pretty sure he's going to listen."

Still, Davis cautioned fans, "Take a deep breath and realize he has a lot of options out there."

Please be aware that at least two official interviews will be conducted with coaches not named Gruden.

Also there is a minimum time frame the job has to be open - something like 10 days or two weeks I think.

As a state run institution ut must follow certain guidelines.

With all that said, sit back and enjoy your thanksgiving.

Good news will be here soon enough.

Erin Andrews
She didn't.... I heard the interview...

She basically she told someone close to UT that she had a bet with Clay...

Clay would shave his head if Gruden didn't come to UT

She would sing Rocky top if he did...

The person close to UT told her that she may want to warm up her vocal cords as it was a possibilty

She went on to say she still thought it was ridiculous and she didn't think he was coming...

Not exact words, but my take on what she said..:hi:

My info did not come from the Erin Andrews interview, but from a phone call I was privy to.

i don't know erin andrews source....but she knows. It was erin who passes the info along stating that it was done, and trent dilfer had been secured for the mnf duties.

your tone indicated that i was definitive of the 48 hour timeline. Not so, it was speculation on my part....which i tried to be very clear about.

Based on what i know about who knows definitively, i cannot imagine it going unreported longer than that. I have always said it would be at least the 30th, if not later. What i heard yesterday changed everything.

The tweet from ea came out after i called and told dto what i had heard.

k. My mistake. Your thoughts are that know way this can go past tomorrow night without the media leaking it. When you feel an announcement from tenn is coming either a release or presser?

it would be shortly thereafter imo.

The following is excerpted from Tony Basilio's blog for tomorrow (Friday):

"So, Tony are you telling me that Gruden is more interested in Tennessee than Tennessee is interested in him? Ah, yes. I think this is exactly what I'm telling you right now. I think Gruden is highly interested in this job but UT's $$$ has some concerns about him. I don't [know if] the concerns aren't something that couldn't be overcome."

Basilio later concludes that "Volunteer Country ought to feel great today that guys like Gruden, Stoops, and Mora Jr. Etc have expressed interest. This is going to be great fun over the next couple of weeks."

Someone on VQ posted babyvol's posts from today and here they are...

Quote:
I've talked to two people that would know for sure in last 24 hours and one says it's done and the other says not done yet but he thinks it will get done.
The first may be basing it on fact Gruden has agreed to his part of deal, don't know.
There is also some worry that Gruden may be hard to control if hired.
I've also heard Gruden has made a few other requests on things I don't feel comfortable posting.

I still say 99.44%. Gruden has agreed to his part of deal, the hold up is over assistants salary. His latest request is 4.5 million a yr. Just don't see how we would lose him over a million dollars or so. Heck, we'll make that back the day he's announced in season ticket sales.
And LWS commented and said...

Quote:
sentences 4 and 5 are becoming harder and harder for Tennessee to accept on all fronts
Sounds like LWS has been holding back.

don't read that much into what babyvol said. He has a source to protect too. They aren't going to let him slip. I believe they know that there would be members of the fan base that would hunt them down! Lol

ha hah, you are right! Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving, and got to see their loved ones.

spoke to johnny majors today on the lynchburg square( he has family down here) and i asked him about the coaching situation and he believes the deal is done and were keeping it quiet until after kentucky game. I then continued to ask him whom he thinks we signed and he said he can't specify but its a good hire. Hopefully its gruden.

some of the comments have become downright ignorant. This has been a done deal for some time. The time line has pretty much been followed and people still want to freak out.

That is why i haven't even been lurking much lately. Just relax, enjoy the long weekend, cheer on the vols saturday, and know that the vols are back.

Watch all the media members jump on board saturday and after.

i believe that jon gruden was in knoxville today and will be till saturday. I overheard this from an assistant ad conversation.

I also believe a deal has been agreed upon for him to become our hc but no papers are signed. "hand shake" agreement like
