it keeps getting worse and worse! "that's hard to say. I think fisher is the only guy hart has talked to and that was when hart was at fsu. All of those guys are on our hot board. I think gruden is the longest shot on that list and i think most would feel that strong is the best possibility." - hubbs

just checked with my most reliable source that is close to a major booster. He said he just asked him about it and hyams is wrong. Says we are past the point where the deal falling through or gruden backing out is even possible. Everyone just calm down and take it easy. This just the ad trying to keep this story from breaking out anymore than it already has.

To me Gruden has always been a longshot because I've never been convinced that he absolutely 100-percent wants to coach in college. I also have always said I will believe it when I see it because your talking huge amounts of money and Gruden is said to have alot of parameters in terms of control.

And Gruden is not nearly as safe of a bet for success as Saban was when he came to Alabama.

So those are some reasons I have always thought he was a longshot.

Looks like Hyams is back peddling a very small bit...

While we reported Wednesday that talks between UT and Jon Gruden have broken off, we think chances of UT hiring Gruden are 5% or worse.

from babyvol:

Here's the deal. I've had more "sources" on this than anything else i've ever brought to the board. I've been within one phone call of 6 major boosters and two of them are of the major 5 boosters that supposedly have brokered this deal. All are saying it's a done deal. Absolutely zero info is coming from athletic department except what they are leaking to media. As you have heard, the media is downplaying the possibility of gruden. Some have asked me....don't you think the media knows some of these boosters? Yes, i believe they do....but i also believe these people know who are members of the media. I tend yo trust what they are telling their friends more. Could i be getting played? It's possible which is why i've kinda went quiet on the subject. I truly believe we will know this week one way or the other on gruden. I've said from beginning i will believe it's him until hart or gruden say it's not. I also would think meetings with other coaches would be getting leaked soon. The names being leaked lately make zero sense. We are willing to make our next coach the highest paid coach and staff in country but you see names like mora and shaw and koettner???? We aren't taking another west coast guy as you saw how that played out. Need a cultural fit. If u are willing to pay more than anyone else you start with the best in business and work your way down. If it's not gruden i know i'll take alot of heat and that's fine dish it out. Just trying to bring what i hear. If its not gruden i'll never believe anyone outside athletic department again so don't look at me for info. If u knew who i was hearing this info from u would know why i believe it.......but like stud says don't bet on it, anything can happen. Hopefully the negative info out there is smokescreen.

I can't say what it is I do.....but I do work with a company directly connected to Tennessee athletics. Sorry to be so vague, but I have to be.

I heard today that it's a done deal. I don't know all the specs, just that an agreement is in place and ready to roll.

I don't know if a piece of paper has actually been signed yet, so crazy things could happen if not.

But my direct source says done.

This was posted in the main forum, but I thought it applies here...The member who posted it was Captain Awesome at 7:36pm yesterday.
A Very Special Guest to UT

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My brother works for Cadillac in Knoxville. He has delivered Escalades to coaches Sunseri, Dooley, and even Cutcliffe in NC. He will also detail an Escalade if a recruit is coming in for a visit. He said that usually for that they send the base model. However, he was told today to go and detail the nicest Escalade that they had because someone from UT was going to be using it to pick up a "very special guest" at the airport on Sunday. He also said it was an extended edition because they were probably bringing family. Now, this could obviously be any coach, but I just figured it was some nice information to pass along to my VN family.

Flat org there, was two steps away from CFO, worked there for 6 years. Left Pilot a year ago. Work in Phoenix now. Will tell you that 3 years ago Gruden himself called with interest, heard that directly from pretty damn close to the top. Was shocked at first, thought someone was pulling my leg. Timing wasn't right then.
Do not have any first hand info now, did hear from someone inside, they think it is a done deal, 5 yrs at $30m, interesting that a kid put this same number out last night in a post.
Haslam's are definitely involved though. Mr. H likes to win. I think we will be ok, sorry nothing more concrete. Jon's definite interest is a step in the right direction though.

From FootballScoop.com...
Tennessee: Sources tell us that Jon Gruden remains the primary target. Although we have not verified, sources tell us that Gruden, among other things, has requested a $4 million salary pool for his assistants. Not sure how that works out but we are told that Tennessee will be having discussions with Butch Jones as well.

Guess who I just saw in the stokley center. Your new head coach is here. #Gruden

on the counter aspect people are also claiming to have seen him at the fayettville mall

I doubt he's at the game since he was at Philly practice today (MNF is at Philly BTW) about 1 hour ago according to a Philly beat writer:

Reuben Frank ‏@RoobCSN

Jon Gruden just left practice. Said Eagles have most unbelievably talented practice squad he's ever seen. "These guys are football players."

Referring to Slice from the Zone

He said that here a few days ago too.

I fully believe the following:

Gruden will be announced the Head Coach. I feel like it will come sooner than later, probably before the 30th.

Gruden has been to Knoxville in the last 30-45 days but did not visit Webb, CAK, or any other school. He was not walked around campus. He didnt hang out at TYS and he was NOT at Hardees on Chapman Hwy lol.

The Cadillac story is false.

Information is being fed to the media to make Hart look like the hero in this instead of the pawn.

Tyler Bray will be back, Hunter and CP are gone

Anyone that says they were at Webb, CAK, Catholic, walking around on campus, at Hardees, or at the Games is FOS and disregard the rest of what they say.

I fully believe Gruden is signed and the "control issue" is just to make Hart look like he "saved the day".

Im on a phone so it is hard to write alot. Sorry. But I have been criticized about not enough info or piggy backing OG's. Here it is 5 years. 31 million. 12/13

Soon.

I don't want to be an ahole to you...that is not my intent, but you are just NOT giving us anything to trust you by.

Your source is your family? I am not trying to pick a internet fight, I just want to be able to believe we have something solid.

Even you would have to admit that anyone could podt what you just did and then conclude it with..SOON

You are right. But believe me this is solid.

ran into ainge at halftime of the game today, and couldn't resist asking him directly if it was gruden. He said no, and said something about "last night," which i took to mean things broke off after last night. He said ut had tried to get him, but it wasn't going to happen, and "it sucks" that it won't. Note: I do not know ainge, so i wouldn't expect him to share any secrets with me, if he's running some sort of smokescreen until the ad lifts the embargo on reporting the true info or something. And it's also posssible he's being given false info and used without his knowledge. All i can say is that if gruden comes, a lot of the knoxville based media people are going to have egg all over their faces (not that anyone will care if gruden comes). On the way to the game i also heard john pennington say on the radio that while he thought ut had made some preliminary contact with gruden some time back, people he trusts had told him doing anything with gruden at this point was "doa. Deader than marley's ghost." fwiw.

from a poster on tos:

"from one my friends at the game that sat up in one of the suites that hart is planning on interviewing jim mora and dan mullen this week. All the boosters want gruden and that is who they are going after the most, but that hart has to continue to do his job as ad and have a plan b. Tifwiw..."

babyvol...

Several members of media pronouncing deal is dead due to demands of control. Several boosters have said deal is done. I spoke with someone that actually coached with Gruden at TN today that I know very well. Here is what I was told....the deal is neither dead nor done. 50 million over 8 years is on the table and there is alot of other factors that have to be worked out. He said media is being told its done to quiet the fanbase and prepare them if things don't get worked outt. He says others will be contacted but Gruden is still the #1 choice and hopes are the deal can get done. He says Gruden's interest is genuine. This person also said boosters were partially correct in that Gruden agreed to his part of the contract a while back.
I was told by someone else close to situation that they believe the pecking order is Gruden, Stoops, Fisher, Patterson, then Strong. This person felt like it might fall all the way to Strong if its not Gruden. Again...i just post whati hear.....hopefully it gets worked out with Gruden but I feel more relieved after hearing the pecking order as ot sounds like we will get a great coach regardless.

"no one will hold me to it. That's the line of the day. The reality is that hart has interviewed anyone yet. He hasn't offered the job to anyone yet.

I think it's going to be a slow week in terms of news because a good number of guys he wants to talk to will play next week and i don't think he will do anything interview wise till the regular season is over.

I have said, that i think stoops, fisher, and golden are guys he wants to talk to. That's not the only three, but that's three that i believe hart will try to visit with."
