Guatemala to Legalize Drugs?

If you break it down by percentages, the highest percentage is no doubt for possession or other drug related crimes.
So how would legalizing drugs reduce drug "related" crimes? Still gonna kill and steal... right?

Again, why not crusade against tobacco and alcohol

Quite frankly because I view them in a different catagory than the harder stuff, and they are already legal. As I said, those two things are as ingrained in human civilization as bread and meat. Good luck getting those two things banned. While your at, try getting rid of guns, too.:)

I would say the majority is some type of violation of parole or probation. People dont go to prison for being caught with a couple of pills or a joint on their first arrest.

Correct, habitual possession charges

So you think addicts are a much harmful to the US than bankruptcy would be?

Absolutely. Addicts not only destroy themselves but the collateral damage to family and friends is immeasurable. Bankruptcy doesn't kill anyone and don't spawn generations of future bankruptcies. Bankruptcies also don't have kids and are not depended upon to show up to work everyday and potentially put other co-workers lives at risk.

Bankruptcy doesnt kill any one?

Might want to research that a bit further.

Why are you against freedom of choice?

Perhaps I should re-state that. The act of declaring bankruptcy does not equal death. That might come from all the things leading up to it and the dispair that results from feeling like you're at the end of your rope. Again, apples and oranges.

I am not against freedom of choice. I believe you are viewing this too simplistically. My position has changed as I've gotten older and responsibilities have increased. Addiction is not a victimless crime. It is a grenade that takes everything out in a certain blast radius. Much like you can't shout "FIRE" in a crowded theatre (a limit on free speech) you do not have the right to be an addict.

However, how someone recreates and still is a good member of society is none of my affair. I'm talking about addiction.

Freedom of choice is a very simple concept*, and yes you are against it.

*I am free to do whatever I want so long as I don't cause direct harm to others (direct harm is also a simple concept that people try to muddle up too).
