Gun control debate (merged)

So why is it the US has more guns per-capita than any other country and this isn't a major problem in another other country with stricter gun laws
Other countries have more deaths by machete.
About 500k-800k tutsis were killed in Rwanda genocide by machetes in mid 90s.

Blah blah blah something something 30 years ago.
I know you think history doesn’t matter, but if you knew it you wouldn’t think guns are the issue.

How is it that we had basically no mass shooting problem until the late 1990’s? Machine guns were legal until 1984.

We literally banned the most likely weapons to cause mass casualties when we had no mass shootings, and they became an issue anyways.

Idiotic response. Has it not occurred to you that nearly all of the people who murder people with guns were "law-abiding gun owners"
prior to committing their crimes? Apparently not--as that would require you to think. The Las Vegas shooter who killed 67 and wounded
more than 200 was a "law-abiding gun owner" before checking into that hotel and opening fire. Has it occurred to you that there are probably millions of Americans walking around with troubles or mental-health issues of one kind or another---depression, drug or alcohol addiction, anger issues, chilid-custody fights, nervous breakdown, lost job....on and on..and on?

Most of the people with mental issues in America don't even get diagnosed, much less treated. And a lot of people starting having life problems, they build over time, and they snap--and the snapping includes opening fire with guns. And if you make gun ownership very easy in a country full of people with problems, you, as states and a nation, are being grossly stupid and irresponsible. So the "I'm a law-abiding gun owner" argument doesn't mean squat--because tomorrow you might not be. But one would need to think to understand that.....
Every time you post, you start with some denigrating comment like "idiotic." That's a sure sign that you are clueless.

I just DARE you to actually check the stats on gun homicide in the U.S. Quick spoilers: you're very wrong, white conservative males are not shooting up the country, and AR15s are not the weapon of choice.

Move along.

Gang bangers and handguns are a vast majority of mass shootings, and no one mentions that dirty little secret.

Explosion of gang activity, loss of the nuclear family in inner cities, celebration of mental illness, lack of available care for those with serious mental issues

The underlying problem (people) remains. The only thing that changes is the scary implement that needs to be banned - because it’s “the problem”

In the UK it’s knives -

In the US it’s guns -

But the argument is the exact same - we simply need to ban these objects, and then we’ll be safe.

On VN, You can always tell when a mass shooting event is by the "disadvantaged". The usual lefty posters are silent/suspiciously absent when compared to a "privileged" shooter.

Was just lamenting that with a buddy.

Also Reagan basically abolishing insane asylums.

Addressing the last bit, I was raise Christian.. got sucked into the Richard Dawkins new atheist movement in high school, and have reverted entirely.

Apparently I’m a rarity. I read somewhere most defectors from religion don’t convert back. I have a feeling those numbers will be changing.

Yup. And in the UK, the gangs split each other’s heads with knives and hammers.

Terrifying 'zombie knives' - with names likes Head Splitter, Blood Splatter and Death Dagger - are being banned from Britain's streets in a move to combat gang violence.

Because gun manufacturers have been around for over 100 years in the US. 393M firearms and still worthless compared to an F-16. Joe's words, not mine.

This issue has just recently become a concern within the last 35 to 40 years. It's a culture and mental health issue.

And now the Brits are demanding “common sense knife control”

Lamenting how easy it is to buy a cooking knife, seriously, and asking for age verifications for online purchases of knives.

I think the merits of public execution need to be brought back into the discussion. I bet these dumb bitches today would’ve thought twice about what they did if they had to face a firing squad or public hanging .

I hope these clowns at least get a domestic terror charge on top of what they should be facing.

Of course it is. As recently as my childhood, it was common for families to keep guns unlocked, and not long before that you could drive around with them and keep them in your truck at school.

What's changed? Don't feed me this BS "access to guns." That's the answer of a damn liar who is afraid to admit that the policies he supports are to blame.

The gang bangers might be deterred, but I doubt it.

The school shooters go into it either expecting to be killed or to kill themselves after.

It’s far deeper than just lack of punitive deterrence.

100%. Cut and dry cases of murder, child/ sexual abuse, elder abuse, etc: string 'em up.

My dad said everyone just had their guns in the back of their pickup truck at school. No one cared.

When I was in high school, a teacher known to be a gun nut had a principal illegally enter his unlocked car without probable cause and got in trouble because he had a Glock in his center console.

We both went to the same high school btw.

My best friend when I was around 10 had a .22 on a rack on his bedroom wall. We never thought twice about touching that rifle, and no one was ever in danger.

My HS was like your dad's. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas more trucks had guns in the rack than didn't. Teachers and students.

There have been calls to make hammers restricted items. Age verification and background checks - to buy a hammer.

Effing hammers, man.

Nah… wouldn’t do a damn thing to curb gang violence, which is the source of the overwhelming vast majority of gun violence.

I think the threat of corporal punishment would probably do a hell of a lot more to deter gang violence lol.
