Gun control debate (merged)

It's crazy how responsible gun ownership and irresponsible boating are directly proportional. You, hog, me, and a bunch of others have been affected with the same "bad luck".

Nope, I lost all of mine in the 2010 flood. I was a responsible gun owner so I never took them on the boat because I’m usually drinking on the boat.

Don’t sell if you have any doubts.
To knowingly sell to a felon. How would one know?

Murphy has a good point, imo. How would any private seller know whether someone is allowed to purchase or not? It's poorly defined. It puts the onerous on the seller when the seller is ill equipped to discern a potential buyers eligibility.

Barrels of ammo, clips, mags, everything lost. It’s terrible

SIAP
Kansas City Chiefs offensive lineman Trey Smith took cover like so many other bystanders when gunfire erupted after a Super Bowl celebrationWednesday, leaving one dead and more than 20 injured, but he helped calm frightened people trying to escape the danger, including children.

Smith told ABC that a security guard ushered them away when the shooting started, and he realized, "'OK, this is not a joke. It's the life-and-death-type situation.'"

Smith said he found shelter in a closet and guided others to safety.

"Right before I run in there, there's like a little kid in front of me, so I just grabbed him — just yanked him — (and) was telling him, ‘You're hopping in here with me, buddy,’ so I don't know how many people that were in the closet. Maybe 20-plus?"
Smith said Kansas City Chiefs long snapper James Winchester was also “very instrumental in helping keep people calm.”

After authorities cleared them to leave the closet, they walked to the team buses, which quickly filled with the frightened bystanders.

Smith, who had been carrying a World Wrestling Entertainment championship belt as a prop through the Super Bowl parade, noticed a small boy who he said was panicked.

“I just handed him the belt," Smith said, telling the boy, "'Hey, buddy, you're the champion. No one's gonna hurt you. No one's gonna hurt you, man. We got your back.'"

Bureau of Justice. At else 40% of rapists, 60% of robbers, etc etc has priors.

Personally, I think very few crimes are committed by responsible gun owners with legally obtained weapons.

Big difference between robbery and murder or a mass shooting.

Who is the guy who claimed that if you take away guns, someone will pick up a knife, if you take away knives, someone will pick up a brick.

Stupid. You're not going to have mass killings with bricks or knives or anything else. To compare a brick or a knife with an assault rifle is beyond stupid.

Ralph Wiggum stikes again.

Although the Constitution of Rwanda states that more than 1 million people perished in the genocide, the actual number of fatalities is unclear, and some estimates suggest that the real number killed was likely lower. The most widely accepted scholarly estimates are around 500,000 to 800,000 Tutsi deaths.

Tutsis were killed with machetes.

Assault rifle or long gun?

Catch a criminal with a gun registered to me that I didn't report as stolen in a reasonable amount of time, I get charged with a stiff penalty.

There are restrictions on all kinds of private property transactions. Try transferring real estate in most states without an attorney.

My background check at the guns store was remarkably quick. There are 59,000 gun shops in America capable of running a background check (compared to 13,000 McDonalds). 99% of Americans live within 10 miles of a gun store
So you want to -

1. Increase restrictions on law abiding citizens
2. Implement new penalties for law abiding citizens

There appears to be a strong correlation with water specifically. I lost mine in a flood.
Sometimes people pose hypothetical contradictions. Like, what happens when a irresistable force meets an unmovable object, or, if toast always lands butter side down and cats land on their feet what happens when you fix toast butter side up to the back of a cat.
So, in like manner, if a responsible gun owner moved to an arid desert would water appear so they would lose their guns?

I think the anecdotal evidence here is influenced by our regional distribution in the greater Southeast. Many of us are close to water, and water poses a major threat.

In New Mexico & Arizona, water might appear - but I imagine sand storms pose the greater threat.

You can ask to see their (current) concealed carry license. They have to pass a BGC to obtain it. If they don't have one I wouldn't sell it to them without a BGC or know them personally. But the CWL license is a good quick and dirty method.
