Guns don't kill

Great Britain also has 1/10th the population that we do and they don't have a problem with gang violence in the inner cities. If there was some way to remove gang on gang violence from the US numbers, I bet our murder rate, per capita, would be about the same as GB's.

Brit's only get upset, when their beer and pubs get messed with

My roommate owns an AR15. I don't see the point. Fun to shoot a couple of times, but then it just sits locked away. And they look like riced out cars when they're "tricked out."

FWIW, my official position on guns is more gun control. Not the banning of them. Locks, stricter conceal and carry, tougher laws to get them. Yada yada yada. Too many accidents happen because of guns. But then again, it's all part of natural selection.

Difference of opinion. His AR15 gets used at least once a month. I think the scopes and handles he has for it make it much more enjoyable to shoot. Also, it is so modular we can change out the configuration rather easily, almost making it a new gun to shoot every time we change it.

I'm all for things like background checks and safety. Some people simply shouldn't be owning a gun (convicted felons etc...) but at the same time it shouldn't be inordinately hard to buy a firearm if one so desires.

look eddie nole..im not gonna sit here and argue, you have your opinion thats cool

but guns are important for your freedom and protection..im not saying we all have to be cowboys shooting each other..but alot of good ppl with guns follow the law

have a good night

Good night. Actually, I got a recruiting question for you.

If you didn't buy it, why the hell do you care if it sits "locked away"?

Correct. Let nature run its course. You can't punish every gun owner because one dumbass doesn't have sense enough to act right.

Probably. The people that completely premeditate crimes involving guns would. If you banned guns completely a smaller yet number would use knives or bats or something. If you banned everything sharp or heavy an even smaller number would use their fists. What's your point? The question still remains what's the proper amount of restriction? At what point do the costs outweigh the benefits? I haven't yet seen an argument of why the benefits of certain dangerous weapons outweighs the costs. People who want gun restrictions or bannings aren't monsters out to take away your freedom or fun. They simply think the benefits don't outweigh a couple thousand lives a year.

If you take guns away from law-abiding citizens, the same idiots that break laws with guns will still have them.

As would be expected with a topic as devisive as this one studies on just how often personal firearms are used in self defense vary wildly with some serious studies (most notably the work of Gary Kleck) putting that number well over a million times per year. What should stand out however is that the lowest number from a legit study I'm familiar with is 93's NCVS (National Crime Victimation Study) which still put that number well over 100,000 defensive gun uses per year. Considering factors in place now (greatly increased personal carry and Castle Doctrines for instance) I'd consider even the lowball number higher than that now.

Since you are not familiar with weapons, who are you to tell me I can't hunt with an AR?(which i do use occasionally.)

for what?

I've known folks to use them out in the Dakota's for Prairie Dogs

AR15 with .22 conversion kit = fun afternoon

hated the sub-caliber adapter on the M16 during Basic Training, but we used them for indoor range training. Hopefully they've improved in the 24 years since I last used one.

Guns don't kill people... idiots who are completely unaware of gun safety kill people.

But seriously, who NEEDS a tech nine, and if you want to pitch the collector argument... then who needs tech nine ammunition?

The Tec-9 utilizes the 9x19mm parabellum round which is arguably the single most widely used caliber in the world. In any event citing the Tec-9's ammunition as a point of contention is folly.

That's my limited knowledge on firearms, seeing as I don't use 'em.

Still, we lead the free world in gun murders. Why?

We're rearing idiots and criminals. Switzerland is chock full of guns, including a slew of full-blown military machine guns, in their population. Why aren't they mowing each other down in the streets?

We need to move past the hoplophobia and anthropomorphizing surrounding guns and get serious about firearm usage. I'm as staunch a 2A guy as there is but I'd be considered absolutely draconian in my dealings with those who would intentionally use a gun against an innocent.
