I think you're putting too much weight on criminals vs. non-criminals. There's limits on how much cough syrup we can buy. Sure some big-time Meth dealers will still get it, but it deters many other people.

Cough medicine has a shelf life, guns made in the 1700s are still good, so how do you regulate how many guns someone owns?

There are already regulations and way too much at that. You're not going to regulate guns into being as safe as a pillow nor hard to get as nuclear bomb. The end of your reasoning is to ban all guns, even by police. It's not like you've invented this line of thought and we all know where it ends. You're given an inch and you going to want another inch and another inch and...

Just give it up. Don't buy guns, don't do anything stupid to someone with a gun and avoid bad neighborhoods. Chances are, you'll be fine.

That is where the weight should be placed. If there is an issue with guns, its getting them out of the criminals hands, not the non criminal. If not this is nothing more than a distaste for firearms, and holds no water.

I am against disarming law abiding citizens to any extent, when knowing that the criminals (who already care nothing for the law) are not gonna stop in their pursuit of them. Even to the point of taking life to get them.

because medicine goes bad and is useless, but I can kill someone with a 1700s dueling pistol. I could kill a whole bunch of people with an 1850s Henry repeating rifle

My point was some people seem to think banning or regulating something will only prevent non criminals from doing it. This is ridiculous. Criminals and non-criminals aren't so easily defined. It's not as if the Mafia are the only people who commit crimes.

That still doesn't matter. It's regulated when you buy it. If you have already bought a certain limit you can't get any more. If it's something with a shelf-life then you would have to wait a certain amount of time before buying anymore. If it has no shelf-life then you obviously wouldn't have a time limit. Or if it was more practical limit the amount of guns one can buy in a certain amount of time. As an example one per...
