Gus Malzahn offered $3 million by Vandy

Waste of money, Vandy might improve from 2 wins to 3 wins. Vandy does not accept transfers, so there goes any realistic chance of winning long term.

Their policy is not to accept mid-term transfers. They did make an exception by allowing Jordan Rogers to transfer mid term, so even that exclusion might end...

I would take the Vandy job for $3 million a year, plus a buyout when he is fired...

Gus waiting to see if Petrino gets the UF job. If so he make a glorious return to Hogville.

This guy was a highschool coach making 80K tops 6 years ago. Anyone who thinks he is crazy to give Vandy a look for 3 mill a year is an idiot. If Vandy could have gotten any offense going they would have beat us this year. This guy is going to have their offense scoring points if he does indeed take the job. Do I think the Vandy job is a great job? No. I do think if they throw 3 mill at him hes gone from AU though.

Not sure where he will end up, but I don't think he will be at Auburn next year and Chizik will be back to having losing seasons like he did at Iowa St.

Only one problem. Vandy doesn't have any talent on their roster. He will have a hard time recruiting there. Not that he couldn't recruit talent their its getting them to meet academic standards.

If Vandy is actually offering him 3 mil., he would be nuts not to take the job. He would get credit as a great coach by just going 6-6 or 7-5 at Vandy. This would open the door for him to go on to bigger and better places in the future as an established Head coach.

I'm having a hard time believing that they are ponying up $3 million per year for Malzahn but their fallback position is a nobody. If you are willing to dangle $3 million for one guy, why would you immediately drop down to 2nd/3rd tier guys like that for Plan B? The story sounds a little farfetched.

Supposedly, they are still after Al Gordon as a plan B as well, but I doubt he wants to be at Vandy either.

If this offer is true, it may signal Vandy is finally serious about trying to field a legitimate football program. Wouldn't make much sense to toss this much money at a coach then continue having some of worst facilities in a major conference.

Stanford has proven a private school can be successful on the field and so maybe Vandy is trying to follow their model.

Yes, but his system works with a lot of deception, and deception based offenses can often be successful with lesser talent. I'm by no means saying he could win big at Vandy, but I could see him being more successful there than most of their past coaches. (That's not really saying much though.)

Auburn next season minus Cam and Gus = maybe bowl eligible.

Why would he not take it? Nothing to lose. Even if there is a slight improvement he can use that to further his career.

I for one don't think he will be w successful head coach. The reason being the Peter principle.
