Newton was a player, no doubt. That didn't hurt. But Malzahn implemented the system that got the job done. I don't think Newton would have had the same success without Malzahn's genius. He's done well at Arky St. and everywhere else he has gone--in only one year's time.

Not much genius to snapping the ball to a once in a lifetime freak athlete and letting him run for 10yds or more every play. He may be a decent coach,not really UT material IMO. We just got through with the Dooley project...don't need another

You know, I am surprised his name didn't come up a lot earlier in some of these openings, but he is in his first year at Ark St. He actually took a pay cut to go there. Maybe he is playing it safe and knows he can stay in the Sun Belt and win consistently in a state he knows with a lot less pressure than the SEC.

I like his creativity on offense, but I am not sure if Hart has him on the list.

I like Malzahn, as an OC, but it remains to be seen what kind of head coach he can be. He will not make a jump like the one you're suggesting. I was worried when his name was being mentioned for the Vandy opening.

Malzahn will be the new coach at Auburn. And he can coach. Give him an elite D coordinator and watch out. People forget he is a High School coaching legend in Arkansas. Has won EVERYWHERE...

He's 8-3 at Arky State this year, including 6-1 in conference. They win Saturday and they are conference champions

I actually think he would be a great coach, but after going through the Dooley experiment, it would be a hard sale to the fans and boosters. He would be a pretty big gamble, and this isn't the kind of hire we are looking for right now. We could do a lot worse.

Cam Newton is an awesome athlete which made his job easier, but there is no denying what he did while at Tulsa, AU and what he is doing at Arkansas State.

I give Gus credit for seeing the writing on the wall at auburn. He was jumping off a sinking ship. Now many suspect the NCAA to continue snooping. I think he took a job at an established lower tier program because it is off the radar. Ive always heard the guy is quirky. How many of yall would know him if he walked into a room? The jump to ark state is peculiar.

If you arent getting Gruden you gotta take a risk, cant settle for an also-ran!

Word is his wife is a fruit loop and thats why he did not get a bigger job than Arky State. I dont care what his wife does or does not do. JUST WIN BABY!
