Hall Of Fame...

Well said.

Almost like the guy who said good pitching beats good hitting every time as proved by the World Series Champion this year! :)

If good pitching beat good hitting every time, then there'd be way more than one lonely little WS pin on the back of my Braves hat, I'm afraid. They went into every postseason series during their run with the edge in pitching. They went home empty every time but one.

Lonnie Smith still sucks.

*sigh*

I don't know. Pettitte was the only confirmed steroid user to this point who has copped to it in a direct, manly way. I think that'll work in his favor. Unless some sort of Absolutely No Juicers Whatsoever consensus arises, and you certainly don't see any evidence that that's coming, then eventually some of these guys will get in.

Not that Pettitte DESERVES to get in, of course. But at that point the Confirmed User stigma will be offset by the Manned Up Manfully factor, and we'll be back to just Yankee factor + veterans committee = HOF. Eventually.

A-Rod?

I think the HOF is going to say "NO." How is it fair to let Andy, but not Bonds, Big Mac, Sosa, etc.? It's just not fair in any aspect. Either you let them all in or none at all.

I think that will likely be the case, once one of the obvious juicers breaks in, they will continue to trickle in year by year.

Didn't read the thread, but here are a few opinions:

Those suspected of steroid use should, and will continue to be held out until voted in eventually by the Veteran's Committee if their accomplishemnts are deemed deserving.

Pete Rose not being a member of the HOF is the biggest load of horse **** in all of sports.

Homeruns can be hit by anyone with true strength. players like McGuire, Sosa, Thomas, and Sheffield should not be elected just because of their hr total. I give Thome a pass because of how consistent he has been throughout his career and doing it clean. Palmeiro juiced, but also is a member of the 3000 hit club and had a beautiful swing.

Palmeiro, Bonds, and AROD should be elected by the VC just because of the hitters they were before steroids. For the record, I hate juicers.

A better indicator of hitting talent is 3000 hits. That, and not 500 hr club, should be the benchmark for acceptance.

Other stats of great importance should be, in roughly this order:
obp
runs
rbis
obps
steals

With that being said, here is my list of notable missing players

Craig Biggio
Jim Thome
Omar vizquel
Manny Ramirez-wonderful hitter whatever else you have to say about him
Andre Dawson and Mike Santo
Trevor Hoffman
George Steinbrenner- innovated tv rights and free agency
I'll add more later

If Mike Santo gets in, so should Pete Lowe. He's delivered my water every Tuesday for 8 years .

Dawson is in. some others you've named are either still active or just flat out don't exist.
