Halzle on Nico, per Wes Rucker

If you’re still trying to win games, Milton is the best option. He’s not a precision passer by any means, but he’s got home run throws in him. His best throws are when he heaves it down field. He’ll miss on a lot of these, but he’ll also land 3 or 4 a game, which usually results in 3-4 TD’s.

If it gets to a point where you’re out of championship contention, maybe it’s best to go with the Freshman. But if anyone is expecting Nico to be like Hooker this season, that ain’t happening. 18 year old true Freshman Hendon Hooker wasn’t even remotely close to 2022 Tennessee Hendon Hooker.
Ill preface this with I don't believe it all falls on Joe. The frustration I have with watching him is the deep ball has only been there a few times this year. When the game is tight, he plays tight even against inferior competition. We have seen it in all 3 games this year. If he is on the run, that ball is going anywhere but the receivers' hands and more times than not going into the dirt at his feet. Joe currently has a 64% completion percentage, but I'd like to see how many of his passes have been caught within 5 yards of the LOS. If I'm a DC, I'll keep everything in front of the D and make a tackle because he has not shown he can consistently hit the intermediate 10–15-yard throws even when they are wide open. Some have been on the receivers, but a lot have been on Joe. It doesn't seem like he can process it as fast as he needs to.

I can't speak for other fans, but I wasn't expecting a Hooker type year. I was expecting Joe to be better than he has shown to this point in the season. I also don't believe the coaches really believe he is playing at a high level and the play calling would suggest that. I'm not even saying that Nico would be better, but I do believe it could be beneficial to get him meaningful playing time against teams with a pulse to prep for next year. If Joe starts out struggling against UTSA, I don't see a reason why UT shouldn't give Nico a chance to show what he's like with the lights on vs their 1's.

I'll be a fan win or lose. We get 13-14 games per year to watch and I won't let it affect whether or not I make memories with my boy (I said I wasn't going to the game this weekend but I am;). I may say it but memories with him are more important to me).

Milton may not be the only problem, but the QB position will always be the biggest assest or problem on any team. When Milton can’t get everyone lined up fast enough, having to use 4 timeouts to prevent delay of game, having false starts and unforced errors, starts with the QB. Even Bru McCoy and others are not confident Milton is the answer and have no faith in him. Tells a lot when McCoy says what he says and the Hazel said this. There is a disconnect between players and coaches it appears.

Preaching to the choir here. I agree totally. The intangibles you describe that are lacking in a 6th year player are about as bad as the lack of accuracy.

I just don't expect any of these coaches to feed anything other than coach speak to the press though.

Welcome back. I guess the silver lining from the Gators winning is your constant helpful presence which has been missing since last year. 😴

So your #1 issue with the Florida game this past weekend was him not converting a 4th down..... I'm afraid you only watched highlights if you think QB play was one of the top problems in this game.....

Florida? We have looked bad all year particularly Milton.

The only thing Nico might add is scrambling ability. Then he would probably just get hurt. No question Joe probably knows the offense better right now..

That is a true statement....A lot of folks think this is the same team from last year except Hooker is gone. We lost a lot more folks than Hooker and the only unit on the whole football team that is performing at a high level is RB. Get a grip, if everyone dont get better we will be lucky to win 7 games.

What’s he supposed to say?

“Yeah I think we could open things up a little more with Nico but that’s not my decision.”

Lol y’all are tooooo much

I just got a concussion after I read that at my desk and fell out of my chair and hit my head. High level? That's why the OC is a freaking joke...

Sounds like you’re dealing with more serious problems than following a team. 😳

BTW, what on earth would you expect him to say?
I don't think he had to say Milton was operating at "a really high level", that seems gratuitous to me. I find it interesting he said that. As I said above, I think what he was really saying is he's still ahead of Nico at this point, without running Nico down.

The issue is Milton can’t or won’t run Heupel’s offense so it has to be neutered for him. Imagine what Hooker or Dobbs would have looked like if they refused to take off running when there was a lot of space or even roll out of the pocket away from pressure. Milton’s play style is a lot closer to Peyton’s than Hooker’s. Thing is, if Heupel thought that play style worked in his offense then he would have at least tried to recruit Arch Manning instead of focusing on Nico.

I think Joe is an adequate qb, I have a problem with his ability to make the proper
decision on the RPO. He doesn't seem to adequately perceive when to hand off
the ball and when to pull it back out, resulting in tfl too often. He doesn't run
the ball as much as he should, especially with his frame.

We lost the game due to primarily the defense. Plain and simple.
Of course the penalties played a large part in it as well.

Wrong, I never went away. I slowed down a tad, but I’ve been here all along. I know you and Behr can’t live without me. 😊
