Halzle on Nico, per Wes Rucker

After Hendon was lost for season at SC game, look how well Milton played against Vandy and Clemson.Alot better offensive line and the receivers could get open last year!

ZzzIf the QB isn't the primary problem, it makes perfect sense. From what I saw on Saturday, the OL was the biggest problem on offense. WR didn't get a lot of separation so I'd put them at #2 on the problem list. I don't think Milton is a difference maker at the position, but changing QBs under these circumstances is like....forgive the pun...shuffling chairs on the titanic.
Bingo!

I mean...I can see what he means. The problem isn't Joe. The interception was, yes. But, the WRs not catching, the OL not blocking (biggest concern), and the playcalling (probably a result of the OL not blocking) are the biggest issues. Joe isn't the brightest guy at clock management and situational stuff, but Nico likely wouldn't be an improvement unless the other things got fixed.

The biggest addition and I think change for our team will be when Cooper Mays goes back. We need him 100% in a big way.

I guffawed at the interception also-then I went back and looked at it a few times. Receiver was running free down the middle of the field.

Milton got hit in the chest as he threw the ball.

Would the receiver have caught it if the QB wouldn't have gotten shellacked? I dunno really. I do know there wasn't a Gator within ten-fifteen yards of the receiver though. Basically, if line would have held 1/4 second longer decent chance it was a TD

We need a functioning O-line. That magically shows up and all these other problems some people seem to be stressing about go away

We may be in a situation mirroring JG.

Sure, JG was not what we wanted to see but it turns out Harrison Bailey, Brian Maurer, and JT Shrout weren't either. A couple of those guys were "sure thing" QBs too who, with the exception of Shrout, are in complete obscurity.
And it turns out that Joe is better than all of those guys and Heupel is better than Pruitt.

Jesus some of you are so dumb it hurts. You think Halze is gonna come out and trash Milton publicly? Can none of you not see it? Obviously not. Halze developed Hooker into a Heisman QB. But now he is either lying or an idiot because he said this.

😂😂😂😂😂😂. Both Heupel and Halze are telling you guys Nico isn’t ready. So I guess both of them are dumb and don’t know what they are doing right?

And Heupel also believed that Milton was better than Hooker and thought Milton was the clear favorite last year. But after we all seen Hooker play, we all knew right then that Hooker was the best by a long shot. If Milton doesn’t get hurt, do we see Hooker when we did, or is it after about 3 more games?
Heupel and Halze made Hooker what he was. So now he doesn’t deserve trust?

Yea ********!! Last year it took 461 total yes and 2 TD’s by the QB to get the job done at home and only still won by 5 points.

His numbers would’ve gotten the job done Saturday. Florida had done jack boo nada in recent memory on offense but things change when you give up 174 rushing yards to their running back.

I agree. And I think Nico will be good also.

My current issue is the playbook. Even with OL problems, I'm itching for quick chip block and release passes for the backs or pump fake the screen dump and catch a back or TE on a short route underneath.

I get the risk of a batted ball and pick but I feel we need to work in more passes to the middle to keep them from keying too much on the side screens.

The playbook just seems painfully limited and repetitive. I'm by no means Josh Heupel, of course, but I just want to "mini" open up the middle and see if it's there for us.

Not sure where the upside would be for Halzle to say " Milton sucks, Vol Nation is 100 percent right ".

Having lived through the abomination that was the Guarantano era, I'm all for QB changes if warranted. Milton isn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but he isn't the only problem with the offense.

Having the OC dress down the QB to the press is counter productive though.
But your comment sounds just like the things people said when defending JG. A good quarterback makes the entire team look better. Butch played Tyler Worley through the first half of Josh Dobbs freshman season until he was injured. It was the same narrative… Worley gives us the best chance to win (ie experience, playbook knowledge, etc). But the fans knew Worley didn’t have that it’s Factor.

Same thing here. To say well… Milton isn’t the ONLY reason we aren’t good says all you need to know. Your quarterback is either the reason you’re winning… Or the reason you’re losing. It’s that important of a position.

It’s almost like saying our basketball team is awful offensively. But it’s not the point guards fault. He shoots 35%. He doesn’t really have any assists and turns the ball over some. But he makes 1/3 shots so he’s not the reason we aren’t good?

It isn’t JG’s fault. He has no protection. He can take a beating like no other. Tough as nails.

Same diatribe.

If NIco doesn't get some meaningful snaps this year, he will make all of his freshman mistakes as a sophomore. A bit of QB management can be done without benching Joe for the rest of the season. If Nico proves to be the best option, then he can replace Joe. If Nico never plays, this silly debate will go on for the rest of the season. The proof of the pudding is in the taste. Let's see what Nico's got. If we lose to UGA, Bama, T A&M, SC, and KY, there's going to be a lot of what ifing going on. The team that played Austin Peay could lose to UTSA

I suppose anyone who’s 6’ 5” could be said to be operating at a high level.

OK, hear me out… I’m not gonna go cryptic and say Milton should hit the bench and never play again. But can anyone give me a single negative consequence of the coaches giving Nico every 3rd series? Give me a single negative? Based on the first three games of the season we are nowhere close to a championship caliber team. We’re not anywhere close to having even a decent offense. We have to be at the bottom half of the entire NCAA in numerous office of categories.

So what do we possibly gain by getting Nico 0 meaningful reps? Milton is a 6th year senior. There is no future with him. If we aren’t a championship caliber team this year (and we most certainly are not)…why not plan for the future?

What I think would likely happen is Nico would make some of those athletic plays and keep the chains moving in situation Milton does not. I think if we started getting him a Series here and there within a couple of weeks at best…it would become apparent he gives us the best chance offensively. And at worst… You would be getting him valuable reps for the future.
